Matt McDonough trashes his second place medal like a PAB.
Iowa Senior Matt McDonough came in second place at this weekends Big 10 tournament and was not particularly impressed with himself. According to a hobo wrestling reporter for The Daily Iowan and fellow senior at Iowa, McDonough threw the medal in the garbage.
Kid is a two time defending national champ and wrestling is an emotional sport. Probably the most emotional sport in regards to sacrifice and dedication to get to where hes been, and hes had a rough year for his standards. I get it, it's a crappy move, but the kid deserves some slack. We've already blasted him in two other threads, he was probably acting out of frustration and overcome with emotion.
I think it's awesome. I'd be furious and unsatisfied too.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
I agree. Its not like he was a poor sport during the medal ceremony or anything, he made a personal decision while he was by himself to chuck the medal, because he doesn't accept 2nd place. I like it as long as he was respectful to the winner during the medal ceremony.
Eh.....I think it is a second rate move. I understand the frustration, but at the same time learn to deal with it a little better. Have a little humility.....it will be important through your life.
I thought I read that he just left during the ceremony and left the 1st and 3rd place winners there.

Agreed. I like the passion. And like Tom said, as long as he didn't throw a fit during the awards ceremony who cares.
He did have humility, he congratulated Delgado and his family in the stands. He gave credit to Delgado being the better wrestler when asked if he was wrestling poorly due to an undisclosed injury, and was stalked by a student reporter who found the medal in the trash after he threw it away discretely. This was all blown out of proportion because of a student reporter going too far to create a buzz over nothing.
He did. Rewatched it this morning. They showed it at the end of the telecast. He stepped off the podium as soon as the picture was taken and stomped off to the nearest trash can. The kid that beat him from Illinois just kinda looked down at him and laughed.
I don't care either way, I hate Iowa, but be a decent enough role model for the kids watching and throw it in the dumpster by your dorm room when you get home, not in the arena, and come back and kick his ass in a couple weeks.

That is my name on their tops and no one can tell me any different!!!!
I can't get it to link, but there are pics of him standing on the podium for the three second medal award ceremony with Nico and Delgado. Then both of them left the podium so delgado could get his solo shot.
What do you want him to do, stay and hang out after the pic is done? After the most trying and probably exhausting season of his life. He congratulated the kid and his family, took the photo, and peaced out.
he got his jock handed to him that match. he will throw a real fit when he takes something other than first at nationals.
No, it's a bitch move, and it's not surprising at all that you're the one defending him.
I'm okay with that. Unless you coach kids or were in their position in the past, I guess it's harder to understand their position and mindset after a big tournament, especially their senior year. It's a lot easier to trash a kid and criticize his actions instead of giving him grace for not being at his best after one of the most difficult and emotional moments of his life.

Look, im gonna be direct with you, I don't know you and you don't know me, so lets not get personal here. If you don't like my opinions just hit the ignore option.
As for your posts, I think most of them are hilarious and don't understand your last response towards me. If its personal pm me or hit ignore instead of a passive aggressive slight brother. We're all on the same team here.
I don't need PMs, here is fine.
1. Cry more.
2. If he wants to throw a tantrum like a child, that's fine and completely understandable, but he should do it behind closed doors rather than trying to take the spotlight off Delgado and steal his moment that he earned.
1. It was a question as to what the issue was that you have with me, I'm not looking to get into a senseless and childish back and forth everytime I post here, the tone was conversational.
For your second point, you could've just posted that the first time around and joined the discussion.
No idea what the issue is with me, but I'm sure we can agree to just keep it from being personal from this point forward.
If I offended you in the past, I apologize, let's move on.
No worries RWC, your right, back on topic.
Some are okay with it and others aren't. Lets see how he does at nationals and if Nico can make a run at the Title again.

So you find my posts hilarious until you're the one in my crosshairs. Got it.
Because they are, and you're awesome.
I know they are, and I know I am. I don't need your validation.
Damn you speaking in memes. Upvote.
pretty sure troy sunderland did this back in his day at nationals
This rivalry will only continue to evolve over the coming years. Iowa's coach probably wants to commit suicide already because of how quick Cael became dominant at PSU.
