Well... interesting how this thread turned out.
Just an FYI, I'm a Philly fan and will always be a Philly fan. Philly absolutely is not a bandwagon fanbase. When the Eagles suck, they don't start rooting for the hot team. They simple show their disgust by turning on their team. I mean, why the hell should we show up to Eagles games when they have 5+ turnovers a game and play terrible defense? I would even say that if you are dumb enough to continue to support that circus, you are a bad fan.
I worked in Philly in 2008. Worst city in America and I've been to Detroit, Baltimore, DC, Boston, & NYC. Rude people and an absolute sh@t hole. Sherman should have burnt Philly to the ground instead of Atlanta. It was fun kicking them to the ground in the World Series!!!
I'd be curious to see how much Heinz would draw w a 4-9 team, on a Thursday night, against the Rams. Throw in a lot of other teams in that scenario. It doesn't mean that every fan base is weak, but it's currently tough to sit thru the pathetic filth that is the Eagles franchise. 60 mins once/wk is far too often. It just needs to end.
I've been to far more than that, and Philly is nowhere near the bottom...aesthetically or socially. It's not the best either by any stretch. If you want a real sh!thole, go to Camden, Newark, Chester, or Wilmington. The surrounding area has far better examples.
I upvoted you Diddy. My dad lived in Chester and Coatesville when I was young. I got the hell beat out of me in Coatesville when I was 12. Three cops got killed in Philly the summer of 2008. Maybe that's a low number but I didn't think it was right for the mayor to be on sports radio begging for drug dealers to stop killing cops. Hate my yanks as much as you want and I totally understand but Sillies fans are @ssclowns!!!
Surely you're joking about there being empty seats at Heinz on a Thurs night, that would be ridiculous......
i'd say they're bandwagon fans towards individuals, but as a fanbase they seem very passionate for their teams
“If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.” ― Haruki Murakami
Coatesville is really rough territory too.
But to be fair minus McCoy your starters were all second string players.
It's not even worth talking about when someone makes a ridiculous statement like that.
I would hope that it would draw terribly. As I said, there is nothing worse than bad NFL teams getting financial support from fans when they stink. It just doesn't make sense and I will never understand it. This isn't college, where supporting the team means something significant. The NFL is for entertainment purposes only. Entertain me or I'm not going to support you.
The threat of relocation keeps people coming.....
PENN STATE FOREVER
Maybe in smaller markets, not in Philly. Good point though, I do understand that.
Wait what are effing whining about. Vick, Jackson, McCoy, Celek, 4 of 5 starting lineman. Maclin and Mathis are the ONLY starters remaining on Offense.
This argument is a lost cause. Both teams severely underachieved this year. Big $$$, injuries, and egos dont work well together.
I have never seen a team with 9 of the 11 starters injured. I doubt I will ever again.
Still, they play undisciplined which falls on AR. Even when the starters played at the skill positions, we were a turnover machine. We have to be close to breaking the record for most turnovers in a season.
Here's my take: I grew up in Philly and am a big Philly fan. The fans, for the most part, are fine. Of course there are the few a$$holes who ruin it for everyone else, but that's the case for every team. It's magnified in Philly for whatever reason.
The real problem with the fans are those sports talk hosts. Some are ok, but most are awful. If I have to hear Anthony Gargano's fake laugh or bitch fest after a loss one more time I'm going to scream. Angelo Cataldi is probably the worst of the worst. He encourages the a$$holes to be a$$holes.
I agree, sports talk is out of control in Philly, and frankly, most of the hosts are idiots. Angelo could not have played any organized sport in his life... I am convinced of that.
do yourself a favor and separate yourself from WIP forever. Its old, stale, and now nothing more than a parody of its former self. The morning show is the worst, and Angelo Cataldi has turned himself into some sort of character instead of a commentator. If he isnt praising goofballs like the dirty thirty, he is promiting another stunt for Wing Bowl.
I made the switch to 97.5 a while ago and have never been happier. A much better collection of hosts overall. I still take issue with a few, but overall 97.5 is much better.
being angry at losses and wanting your team to improve is not a bandwagon fan. in fact, it is the exact opposite. "Bitching" and "bandwagon" are 2 completely different things.
I cut Philly sports radio completely out of my diet a few years ago, and I've never looked back. Their whole lineup is repulsive. Angelo Cataldi is an even worse human being than host. The rest of that crew isn't much better. The scene there is very very very poor.
It's interesting that most of the hosts on WIP went to Temple. I gues ls that explains why it's so bad
