It still makes no sense to me to hire a permanent AD. You need to hire your president first, especially since Erickson seems so completely incompetent. Are we looking at someone else getting promoted for the interim? Some talk about JoeBa out there. This would be the kind of immediate and reasonable action BOB could have requested.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
I'll be interested to see how much say BOB will have in the selection of a new AD. Was this about BOB getting his own hand picked guy in there or just about getting Joyner out of there? We should find out soon enough.
Dominate The State
Someone may know more, but I'm not sure we can permanently fill Curley's position while he is on administrative leave and I'm not sure that's changing until his legal case is determined?
Gotta be Anzalone, right?
I think it probably had more to do with getting someone qualified into the position. After all, Joyner has no experience in the field. I wouldn't be surprised if they just promoted someone from within for now. I don't think that happened in the first place because it would have looked bad. At this point, probably not.

Yup. He is Pegula's go-to guy as well, so we know he'll have support from both BOB, Terry, and Ira.
Well - it seems like some of the stuff will take through next FB season to do. Maybe Joyner isn't out immediately, and it makes sense to me as well that they would hire a Pres first.
Maybe the stuff with Erickson on the 18th actually has legs?
How about White from Duke? High academic school and has connections to NCAA which might bode well. Eight years at ND prior as well as ASU so familiar with big boy college football. Might even be able to help out the hoops program with his insight from Duke.

As long as they aren't a washed up orthopedic surgeon looking to collect a paycheck I'm good. In all seriousness how about someone with experience as an AD for starters.
Yes, hiring a President first would be ideal then worry about the AD. Hopefully HotRod Erickson is out in two weeks. Time will tell...

Good name 4PSU... I didnt have the name pinned down, but was thinking someone with Duke ties woudl not be a surprise... given Coach O's background, and their academic track record, etc... Not sure if this is the guy, no idea really, but like the train of thought...
I think they'll go with someone like JoeBa.
They can't wait until they hire a President and they can't rush the President hire just to get an AD.
Once a new president is in place, that person can re-evaluate the AD position and make a more permanent move.
I know the President spot is most important, but why do we NEED to have the new president in place before the AD?
"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
Emmertt to fix the culture issues.
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
We don't. I think Joyner was playing that card so that way he could keep the job longer and hopefully end up as the full time guy.
The talk of Erickson's quick dismissal appears quite a bit premature. If Erickson is ousted sooner rather than later, who would step into that role until it is filled on a permanent basis? The search for a qualified University president, at any level, takes upwards of a year. This is not a case of a quick turnaround, as is prevalent in coaching circles.
In addition, there is no need to hire a new University president prior to hiring a new athletic director. In my experience, presidents and chanchellors are rarely deeply involved in AD searches.
In my opinion, Joe Battista would be a good choice, but not the best choice. Others can likely chime in with more informed opinions, however, Joe Battista's heart seems to be with hockey more than the business of the Nittany Lion Club or University affairs.
Let us, also, not forget that athletic directors today are tasked with wearing a myriad of hats. Taking a path similar to that of Michigan when they hired David Brandon would not be a bit surprising.
Perhaps BOB just wanted assurances that Joyner would not be the permanent AD and until Joyner left he would leave BOB alone?

I'm sure there are a lot of good candidates, but something tells me we need an AD who is recognizable in the sports world and has a clear association to quality programs. Someone in house might continue the public perception and the rhetoric of a "culture problem". At least an outsider doesn't carry that stigma.
I think the donors should pick the AD not the president. The Athletic department is self sustaining and relies on football and donations to stay afloat. Why should the school get involved?
No AD worth his salt will come in without knowing who the full time President is going to be. It's the way it works.
I saw Rick Neuheisel at the Tavern for lunch yesterday afternoon.
How about OB as interim AD? He has a lot on his plate already, but I'm guessing Joyner was so bad that it was AD by committee among the head coaches (with OB taking the lead).
