October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
I disagree with you. If you serve the penance for 2-3 years, there is acceptance in the PSU community and an understanding that the football program has a proper place at the university, I think you will get a reduction from the NCAA.
Regardless of whether or not you believe you got screwed over by the NCAA, swallow the bitter pill and move forward. I'm not trying to insult you all, but it's not as if your program was competing for national championships, I don't think you have even won the very mediocre BIG in years.
This isn't as bad as it seems. You haven't had a mass exodus, you can still recruit some good quality players even with the scholarship reductions, and most importantly, you didn't get the death penalty. With some time off for good behavior, the worst thing is that you will probably have a few sub-500 seasons. In the grand scheme of PSU football, this won't be that different than the couple of lean years you had about a decade ago. There's no reason you couldn't come back bigger and better within 5 years. Adjust your expectations a little, have some patience, and you all can do well.
lol, from an OSU. I'm sure your level headed fanbase would just happily accept these sanctions right?
So, to get things back on topic, how long until the NCAA responds to the most recent BoT appeal?
It pains me to say this, but I agree with this paragraph. At this point, I am about ready to lock the doors and windows, ride out this storm, and then come back stronger and better.
However, Jag, dont forget about B10 championships in 05 and 08.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
Sadly I agree entirely with this post, except I wouldn't even count on "sub-500" seasons. The Big 10 isn't amazing (though stronger than recent past and seemingly improving) but there's a gap between top and bottom, win the "out of conference" that have lately been "cupcake" games and can possibly have "winning" seasons even. I'm not of the crowd that thinks the death penalty would have been better. We'll survive this, won't emerge like USC, but we'll be OK.
Actually we haven't played a game since 1998. I believe that makes us preseason #1 by default.
I get what you're saying, but we are being asked to serve a penance for 4-6 years. No bowl from 2012-2015 and scholarship reductions through 2017. After all we've been through over the past nine months, I think most people here would accept a 2-3 bowl ban and more moderate scholarship reductions as a way to move forward, as a compromise, or as "time off for good behavior" as you suggested. And hopefully we can get the wins reinstated for the sake of the players on the field, even the NCAA keeps an asterisk next to JoePa in the record book.

No doubt that's true, we are pissed off at the penalty we got for tatoo gate. I think the NCAA sucks too.
The debacle at PSU hurts all college football fans. It is one of the worst stories of all time, sports or otherwise. Just because you aren't a PSU fan it doesn't mean you didn't respect the program and like Paterno. This is a horrible and painful chapter in the sport.
I am taking it down a notch this season. Yes, I'll be cheering for TOSU, but not as much. I plan to enjoy the games, but I will be keeping it in better perspective. It's just a football game, it's not life or death and it should never be held in such high regard as to trump basic human decency.
I think this is possible, but it really does depend on how PSU rallies as a community and university. Self examination and perspective as opposed to battling the NCAA would be a good start. 2-3 years down the road, PSU works to become a model program (despite a few more in the L column), go to Emmert hat in hand and see what you can do. The public's thirst for vengeance will have dies down by then, hopefully the Sandusky memories will have faded, and a different perspective could help the NCAA back off a little.
Not to be a smart a**, but all your wins were vacated. You still keep all the loses.
