You're right. That is why both coaches and media voted Mauti first team? Shazier is a very good linebacker and is only going to get better, but it hasn't been fans voting on this stuff...it is the coaches who played against them, and the writers whose job it is to watch them. Think they know something we don't?
"PSU a 3 to 4 win team" - New-era, September 2012
Yep, one game makes the whole year. What an idiot you are. Hodges had the same amount of tackles as did Shazier, Hankins and Simon combined in that game you fool. He had 14, Mauti had 13, so ...
Bottom line, Shazier wasn't consistent the entire year. He wasn't that good until the last four or five games. Sorry. He whiffed on alot of tackles throughout.

Winston Churchill said that there are three kinds of lies, "lies, damned lies, and statistics."
I couldn't care less about coach of the year. I think we know who the better coach is.
Simple question numbnut ... would Urban Meyer have gotten eight wins, actually it should be nine with at least one ref screwing, at PSU under these circumstances. The answer is a resounding NO. He would have run away like a little girl after the sanctions were announced - made up some story like "recurring health issues."
BOB did the best coaching job in the league and that is without question.
If you have the 3 best defensive players in the league then why does your defense suck?
I think your first sig pic says alot about the type of person you are. No other comeback is needed for someone who jokes about child molestation. Though I'm sure you were one of those phony "remember the victims" types.

Hey what the hell do you know? You don't even think TDs are important statistics.
Mauti is a good player, but he got a lot of pub in the offseason and face-time playing it up to the media during the mass exodus. He stood for more than just being a good linebacker and the media and coaches respect that - hell, I can respect that. But it also played in to their selections for honors (just like Manti Te'o getting Heisman mention - if he didn't have that terrible tragedy off the field, he wouldn't be getting this pub because he is nowhere near the best LB in the nation). We are humans and we all fall for a good story - Mauti has a good story and is being recognized for that as well as being a good linebacker.
But if this were based on football alone, and you let the NFL scouts give out the honors, I guarantee Shazier is above Mauti on all of there lists. Mauti is really good and solid; Shazier has the ability to change games unlike a lot of players at that position.
Penn St finished #32 in total defense; OSU finished #34 in total defense. Try again?
And there are 8 other people on the defense. Having the 3 best players doesn't guarantee the unit will be good. Try again?
Sometimes with these discussions, I really question whether or not people actually watch football.
This isn't about who would be the better pro. This is about who is the better LB in the BIG. I would be willing to bet that if you put a lie detector on Urbs and asked him which LB he preferred and would make the 2012 OSU defense better - for that year only - he would say Mauti. Mauti is not only a hell of a linebacker; he is a hell of a leader - something Shazier hasn't mastered yet. He isn't as athletic, but he sure as hell makes up for that in many ways.
Bringing in the NFL aspect of it doesn't work. Last I thought, the BIG was a conference for college, not the pros.
I'll disagree here. Many may not share my opinion, but Shazier just doesn't pass the look test to me. I think he will be pushed around rather easily in the NFL. Mauti is only lower on lists because of the knee injuries. That said, Hodges should be higher on the NFL's draft boards than either of them.
I'll take Mauti as a leader and player any day over Shazier right now! Maybe next year I will change my mind if Shazier comes out and has a fantastic year but right now, I'm taking Mauti.
What do you mean by "NFL scouts giv[ing] out the honors"? Would they give out honors based on who is a better player in college, or who will be drafted higher, or who would project to the NFL better...etc.? All of those things are dependent on different aspects of a player's game. And frankly, most of the NFL stuff is moot since Mauti had another injury. Without the injury, it would be a good discussion, but with it, it's obvious Shazier would project better to the NFL.
That said, you can't just ignore leadership that Mauti brings. And I'd strongly disagree that he is "good and solid." No doubt in my mind that Mauti changes games too. Shazier and Mauti might do it in different ways, but Mauti is a game-changer. There's a reason why Navorro Bowman and Sean Lee are considered two of the best LB's in the NFL, despite only having "good and solid" stats.
Sometimes people are just from Ohio. Enough said.
Shazier just racked up a bunch of extra tackles in OT against Purdue, lol. Try again?
I love it when OSU fanboys stop by and tell us how great everything OSU really is. Please tell us more...
I agree wholeheartedly that BOB should be the B1G coach of the year. To get 8 wins with the cards he was dealt is a fantastic job. In fact, I think he should be the national coach of the year. 6 wins would have been a very, very good job....8 is outstanding. Now to speculate on what UFM would or would not have done is just silly. We have no idea if he could have match BOB's win total or not. BOB was the right man for the job and you should be happy that you have him. He is going to make the next 3 or 4 years go by much easier than if you had the wrong man in place there.
If you let NFL scouts select the Heisman, they also would pick Te'o. Of ESPN's current top 5 (Klein, B. Miller and Johnny Football are the other three)...Only Marqise Lee is the only one that has the potential of being drafted above Te'o...
Te'o before this season was projected as a top 15 pick and would have probably went ahead of Luke Kuechly in last year's draft.
Second, then why did the B1G Coaches also select Mauti as 1st team B1G?

Wait, Michael Mauti isn't a playmaker who changes games?
Oh dear Lord this is too much! LOL!

Mauti absolutely deserves first team honors. But he's the only LB in the league that can be mentioned in the same sentence with shazier. Shazier was by far number one in solo tackles. Number one in tackles for loss. Number two in total tackles. Number one out of all LB's in passes defended. And had more sacks than any other talked about LB ITT. He had by far the best overall stats out of any defensive player in the big ten. The things people say about him ITT just makes it clear you aren't watching or you just have zero comprehension.
Johnny Football's QB rating is 18th in the country, yet he's probably going to win the Heisman. No need to try again, you've already made quite the fool of yourself.
I agree when nuts come over here and say Mauti isn't a playmaker with the ability to change a game, statistics are the end all be all but also saying touchdowns aren't an important statistic along with missing a game and a half isn't doesn't bode well for the Buckeye nation.
