Introducing his All-Big 10 awards.
No Donovan Smith; no Adrian Amos anywhere - even HM.
Jordan Hill - HM
Sabino who missed five or six games still gets HM; Boren who played five or six games at LB gets HM and no Glenn Carson.
Shazier as DPOY
This guy is a tool. He proved he didn't watch a single game this year.
It'll most likely be Shazier or Mauti for DPOY
As much as i like kyle carter im not sure jesse james isnt the best te in the big ten.
I don't really have an issue with anything other than Amos not getting mentioned.
Smith was hurt all year and missed time early. There were times where he showed us why we're excited about him, and there were times where he showed us he is a RS freshmen.
Carson is the type of player who will never show up on any awards lists. Rock solid, but not flashy at all, and I'm not being critical of him at all when I say that.
And Jordan Hill, while he had a good, strong season, he didn't really have "THAT" impact game until today. If the article was written tomorrow, HIll's presence would've been a lot more prominent.
but ... Sabino missed just as many games. But Boren didn't play as many games as Smith.
The guy is a homer. Carson deserves mention more than Boren and Sabino without question.
Helwagon is definitely a douche. No question about that.
Oh he's definitely a piece of shit, no one is debating that. But I don't know if those are the best citations for it.
I never said Carson didn't deserve anything. I'm just pointing out that guys like Carson will never get a mention no matter who they play for. The quiet, glue guys like him will always go under the radar on media lists. Fans appreciate them, coaches appreciate them, teammates appreciate them, but the media almost always misses them.
Hill is clearly first team. Honorable mention? WTF?
Andrew Maxwell on par with Matt? Uh....
Picking Shazier as DPOY is just ridiculous.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Wanna know the best part of Helwegens list? It doesn't mean jack shit! It's his personal opinion.
I don't even know why we just gave that clown recognition with this thread.
BacardiBuckeye: "But in all honesty I like Penn State, I want to see Penn State do good that's why I check this board everyday." 4/2/14
I think Hill has a shot if you listen to Ferentz. I know Beliema has to be a believer after yesterday.
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
Why doesn't he post the list here and explain it himself? Coward.
Don't really have a huge problem with this from a PSU perspective. I do agree that Amos deserves some rec., and well as Urschel(IMO), but besides those two, I think the guys who deserved to get mentioned, all got mentioned - not quite sure how you put Hill at HM though - he should have been a first-teamer.
"A bowl game ain't nothing but a vacation." - Gerald Hodges
I looks like he reviewed a stat sheet instead of watching Big 10 football games.
Shazier had big games in all of OSU's big games and their team is 12-0. There is no reason to be mad about Shazier as POTY. Mauti had a great season but the injury cost him 2 games.
Shazier would be our third best linebacker.
Are you guys comedians?
For you to laugh off a comment that Shazier may not be better than Mauti or Hodges would actually make you the comedian.
Shazier misses so many tackles. He has ability, but he isn't a good lb yet. Maybe, he never will be.
Giving him the award is a disgrace.
OSU fan here....no way is Shazier the DPOY.....being the best defensive player on an average at best defense does not qualify him for the award. He misses far too many tackles. He's a sophomore and has a lot of potential but he's not there yet. Mauti should be DPOY.....and Jordan Hill is the best D-Tackle in the conference in my opinion. Dominated against Wisky on saturday.
I would say Hankins is right there with Jordan Hill...He is can be just unblockable. A defense with those two would be unstoppable.
I think Simon has the best chance of the big three for OSU (Hankins, Shazier and him) for B1G DPOY and I would completely understand.
Simon is the best defensive player at OSU IMO - not Shazier.
Can't disagree with that, unfortunately he has the stats to steal a chunk of the votes. If Mauti doesn't miss the last 2 games he would win hands down, but since he missed 1/4 of the B1G season I have a feeling he will lose votes that would have gone to him. Simon is going to get votes, Mauti is going to get votes, Hill will get some votes (missed games will cost him as well) and Shazier is going to get votes, so it will be interesting to see who get's the largest chunk and therefore the DPOY. Has Urban stumped for either of these two publicly?
I hate when Steve Helwagen posts because then I know that I will be out of down votes for awhile.
Notice, his links aren't posted here anymore. Is this a coincidence?
Nope. If you look around, you will see that he posts on a few Big Ten team sites. PSU and MSU are two that he stays away from.
