The most tangible things here were children being raped by PSU football.
The student athletes have a chance to get a degree from PSU still or transfer out today and play and get a degree. Pretty harsh compared to being subjected to rape, right?
Amazing that Michigan State fans have been worse than Pitt and OSU fans. I guess the Land Grant rivalry is still alive and well.
How does not wanting to accept this extreme and over the top punishment have any affect on Penn State being ethical and moral leaders?
“Never trust a government that doesn't trust its own citizens with guns.”
B/C the ethical and moral thing to do is admit wrongdoing and accept punishment and be bound and determined to make the university better.
It's called not "having your cake and eating it too".
You stated in one post that the sanctions were imposed solely to the cover-up. If you can't make up your mind where you're coming from then stop posting.
Sandusky is a criminal and he has been convicted. That's in the past. Justice has already been dealt on that account.
Do you want pseudo-authority institutions running around and dealing punishments to the masses instead of the government? That's exactly what you're supporting with your statements.
What do you mean "IF they find problems at other universities"? You seriously think the "football above all" culture is at PSU only? Wow. I seriously cannot fathom how stupid someone would have to be to say these things.
I have no problem accepting punishment that we deserved. We did not deserve this. Not even close.
Sandusky, Paterno, and the others all paid their taxes. I guess that makes this an IRS issue too, right? Or does that logic only work when people want the football program to be destroyed?
Certainly problems exist at other universities. I hope they come to light and are punished.
The person being punished cannot decide what that punishment is.
They could if they put up a fight. You think this hogwash would hold up in court? There's a thing called jurisdiction and purview. Neither apply to the NCAA here.
You aren't answering my questions. All the people involved are tax-paying American citizens. Does that make this an IRS issue?
This is where the problem lies. I love sports. Was raised with sports as a big part of my life and it's still a big part of my life. I have 3 sons that played or play sports in college. However, my parents put sports into perspective for us and my wife and I have tried to do the same for our children. "Football above all" culture is out of hand at all levels in our Country. "Sports above all" is out of hand. Again, I love athletics and some of the greatest lessons in life are learned on the gridiron, diamond, court, course, etc. Buts as humans created by God we need to try and put sports into perspective. PSU does not have the market cornered on having football out of perspective.....we all do. Outside of trying to do whatever we can to help the victims of child abuse and to prevent child abuse maybe another good to come out of this is to put our athletics where the belong.....in the entertainment section of our lifes....nothing more, nothing less than that.
You're a loony.
Awesome. Figured that with your "logical capabilities" that your comments would quickly devolve into ad hominem. Just a matter of time with people who don't understand jack squat.
Not going to hold my breath in waiting for answers to my questions.

I don't post much on my board, let alone others, but I just wanted to swing by and say hang in there. Hopefully for those coaches/athletes/students/fans/livelihoods that try and stick around to erase this black eye, I wish you luck and hope everyone can stick together vs bickering to try and accomplish some positive goal or common theme. No idea what that will be or is, but hopefully you guys/girls are able to move on and get back to some sort of normal life. I only say this because we as fans or alumni sometimes live vicariously or breathe the success or failures our teams put forth. Unfortunately, I know it's rough now, but I'm hoping time will heal both for the victims/families but those associated with the university in any capacity. Good luck.
So I assume that your not watching the Olympics either? The US should make all the swimmers withdraw from the games right? That should be their punishment for their committee allowing child abuse to occur?
Spartan fan here. What happened to you fans could happen to any fan base in the country, and that to me is the scariest part. I hope you guys come out of this and the program builds from the ground up to what it used to be.
Notre Dame fan here, I agree with everyone here. This goes beyond football. Hang in there and I am sure as you guys have already seen there are a lot of college football fans out there who are thinking about you all. My favorite non Notre Dame college football memory was at an Illini game where I was able to see Joe lead his troops onto the field.

GOD..COUNTRY..NOTRE DAME... THEN HUNTING
This should be named the Official misery loves company thread. Alabama. USC. Not good company Psu fans. Do not take solice in hollow words. Psu is a great university start today being that again.
So you think the NCAA will step in at the Citadel and at Syracuse??? Seriously doubt it!
Bama fan here...like the op said we've experienced our share of dealing with the NCAA. I really liked our home and home series and I'm a big supporter of coach O'brien.
Only if they weren't paying their taxes.
Dude, go f@ck yourself.
Fight on PSU! I hope all your current players decide to stay, and the upcoming recruiting class as well. Nothing will piss the NZAA off more than that.
IGNORE THE DOUCHEBAG FROM MSU - he's clearly not read the Freeh report, and evidently doesn't understand what a cover-up is, as there is no actual evidence of a cover-up (terrible ineptitude, absolutely, but no cover-up).
FYI - you shouldn't always believe what the media tells you, but you should try to figure things out for yourself.
Wait, that means I agree with you? I was just being a smartass because I had no idea what point you were trying to make.
Sorry for the confusion.
Colorado fan here. We've been down this road, and it hasn't been easy; after a two decades of usually being top ten, we haven't been close since. Only now can we see the light at the end of the tunnel. But it doesn't have to be that way, not with a great coach, a super tradition, and a glued-together fan base. Check out what's happening at USC -- they walked away with sanctions, 15 scholarships a year, and still are bringing in the best recruiting class in the nation.
You have two ways to go. Collapse like SMU; or triumph the way the most solid programs have. You might be surprised, but a lot of people will be rooting for you. Hopefully you'll be staying together, too, and sticking behind your team and your tradition.
