I think think they keep him at OT. There is little depth beyond him and I don't think Hartman or Nelson will be good to go as RS FR. Also have to consider Smith leaving early if he grades high enough with the scouts. Depends on how much he improves when healthy and after a full yr with Fitz.
Keep Alosi at OT. We are fine at DT. We'll have four freshman at the position next year. Don't need another young player there. Take one or two in the coming class.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
We have more depth at DT than OL come 2014, so I don't expect a move.
Yeah, I think we need Alosi at OT more than DT - and this is from someone who is wary of the DT depth.
It is Wilkerson.
I don't know about moving Alosi...
However, this would allow someone like Shrive to be a back up Guard and Tackle, which in turn allows someone like Mahon to redshirt and not be forced into the game due to injury

It really wouldn't be that difficult to put 20lbs on Gilliam's frame if he was at 277 (he may have had to work hard to stay at 277). I'm sure it isn't all muscle that was added if 297 is true. He may have known this was in the works for a month and could've been told to just add weight. These are massive individuals and adding 5 lbs in a week isn't much of a challenge.
Gilliam weighed in at 297 just today.

Any info on what his new number will be?
This is awesome... 297 already?!?!!?? He will be 310 this year.
Frick. 305-310 easy by the season.
Is there any way he doesn't start at RT this year? I think he could be the last piece to a very, very good O-line next year and very likely 2014 as well.

Any idea what weight the staff wants him to get to?
BOOM. It's over. awesome. Fitz the beast. Best Strength coach in America
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Just a guess, but you will probably see him shoot up as high a 320-325 asap, and then wind up around 305-310. Given his length, I would think he needs to be at least 305 for RT. The reason you see them have guys overshoot their weight goals initially in these situations is that it seems to reduce the time frame on the adjustment for carrying the new weight. I don't know if this is the path they are following, but I've seen it done successfully elsewhere. It seems pretty obvious that GG was making an effort to stay as low as he was, so I don't he'll have any struggles meeting whatever goal they have for him. Hell, he is only a few Big Mac's away from 305 now.
Bam there it is. That might be a good indication that this was something he was expecting. I personally like the move to OT from TE.

I haven't seen anything saying whether this change was initiated by Gilliam or the coaches. Anybody know for sure?
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the staff due to the need at OT, his size/athleticism combo, and our stable of young, stud TEs.
I also think he played himself into the position with his demonstrative blocking this past season. I also love that many OT in the NFL started their careers at the TE position in college, demonstrating that the transition has a good success rate.
