Forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical about this.
what are skeptical about?
PSU was treated so poorly by the BIG since joining and particularly during the Sandusky scandal that the idea of going to the ACC started to get some momentum. In turn the BIG did what they could to keep PSU's money in the conference. Of course Delaney and company will make it sound like adding Rutgers and MD was done purely out of goodwill from the bottom of their hearts. It was done for the widely-reported TV sets reason and to eliminate PSU's out option.
That they had PSU in mind when expanding (Maryland/Rutgers version).
We are a money maker. Plain and simple. We are the biggest money maker the Big Ten has to offer. Why would they want to lose us? Im not saying it was the BIG sole reason for adding UMD and Rut nor am I saying it was the main reason. But I believe they definitely had us in mind.

BacardiBuckeye: "But in all honesty I like Penn State, I want to see Penn State do good that's why I check this board everyday." 4/2/14
Don't think for one minute that the B10 did not think (nor still don’t think) about voting PSU out of the conference. The way they acted during the events of last year just shows us where we stand in their eyes (and wallet).
Read between the lines in Alvarez comments:
"Jim felt that someday, if we didn't have anyone else in that corridor, someday it wouldn't make sense maybe for Penn State to be in our league," Alvarez told the board, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "That they would go into a league somewhere on the East Coast. By doing that, it keeps us in the Northeast corridor."
"By doing that, it keeps us in the Northeast corridor" - This comment alone should make you think. Now that they do have Maryland and Rutgers in the mix, finding one more school to join and replace PSU is easier now than it was just a month ago. The B10 brings in one of the following school say VT, UVA, Syracuse or Boston College and out with PSU, end of story!!!!!!
Until the sanctions are done over and complete we will be on the HOT SEAT. One compliance issue and they have their pen set to write the letter. DEAR PSU, Goodbye. Respectively "The B10"
Come on, people. There was never a chance Penn State would be removed. Penn State ends every year amongst the top for fanbase size, football tv ratings, and revenue. The sanctions won't last long in the grand scheme of things.
The Blue and White game can't get here fast enough, maybe then these forums won't be half filled with threads about Pitt and the Big 10 hating PSU.
and we should say "see ya" along with our tv rights. the schools they are bringing in don't match what we make for the conference !!!!!
Your not paying attention. This is about $$. Penn State is one of the biggest assets the BIG has. When the Sandusky crap hit the BIG had to be seen as doing something and they did. Penn State fits the BIG as well as anybody. The nonsense about the ACC is just that. Why in the world would we ever go to the ACC? Oh, boo hoo no one likes us in the BIG? lol. So we go to the ACC and we get.....
much much less money
a conference that is and always will be a basketball conference
No hockey, no volleyball
only a few teams left that wrestle and they suck
IMO opinion unless ND decides to jump, the end game is UNC and UVA. Contiguous with MD, we become a THE power soccer and lacrosse conference, arguably the best bball conference, they both have wrestling, lock up the DC/VA market and get into a rapidly growing NC market. Sure GT gets you Atlanta but have you looked at their athletic department? Small time.

On gameday we cheer for PennState....
and whoever is playing that catholic school in Indiana
Sorry, I have a scorn for the B10 offices. If the B10 cared so much about PSU and NOT the almighty $$ they would have stepped up a year ago to help defend PSU the team this year and in those teams of the future. The B10 did nothing for us in regards with the NCAA to NOT punish this team and the future of PSU football.
What if the NCAA had given us the DEATH PENALTY where would the B10 be? Bankrupt, NO!!! They would still be the B10 with 11 teams again instead of 14 and going to the Midwest to find number #12 again and Maryland and Rutgers would be where they were.
So again I say, the B10 absolutly thought about voting us out!

I don't disagree with you, but I'm curious why you think they would leak this and make it look that way?
First of all, how do we know that the B1G didn't go to bat for PSU? Ya, they didn't come out and make any public statements but maybe Emmert wanted to give PSU the death penalty and the B1G stepped in to stop it? Also, ya they took away our bowl $ but that is standard operating procedure when a team gets a bowl ban. OSU lost their bowl $ from this year. When everything was going down the media was killing anyone who stood up for PSU so I don't blame the B1G for not saying anything publicly. Unless you have actual evidence that the B1G didn't stand up for PSU, my theory is just as plausible as yours.

Dominate The State
OK, I give you the benefit here and will allow the possibility that the B10 did do something on our behalf
But the shroud that the NCAA works under has been a point of contention for years by many. I don’t believe in any public statement or written document out has anyone pointed out where any official from the B10 defended PSU and was thanked by any PSU leader for their support during these matters.
I remember the week before the Nebraska game last year, they the B10 only days after the arrest and so on removed JOE PATERNOS name of the B10 trophy. Before any Freeh report or independent investigations, nothing in place. I guess that’s the support we were given. Also the trophy was to be in State College that weekend and they again the B10 choose not to support one of the 12 members of the league.
He ain't heavy - He's my brother!
I wouldn't take anything that Alvarez says at face value.
Let us separate the Big Ten in these discussions. The University presidents and Delaney. The University presidents very likely had discussions regarding the removal of Penn State. I don't doubt that. Delaney, on the other hand, is a very shrewd worker. He didn't go to bat for Penn State for fear of staining his reputation among his bosses (the University presidents). At the same time, Delaney's job is to generate as much money as possible for the Big Ten schools. He knows and understands just how important Penn State is to the conference, and, for that reason, was never going to let Penn State out. Adding Rutgers and Maryland had nothing to do with appeasing Penn State. The move served two purposes. It forced Penn State's hand, making other options logistically and fiscally unattractive. The situation also allowed Delaney to work through opposition from his bosses and move the conference East, taking the critical step of stabilizing the conference long term. Without Penn State and other East coast schools, the Big Ten's long term future would be bleak.
Prob had enough support to make Delany run the numbers on the financial impact of dumping Penn State, and when the results came back he sh!t his pants.
Penn State has been treated so shabbily by the Big 10 ever since entering the league....and even more in recent months. I doubt if Delaney has any idea of the depth of hurt and anger that exists among Nittany boosters--even though he is the cause of much of it. Well, if economics are going to keep us in the league, let's make the best of it. If we can't leave 'em, let's beat em! In soccer, in wrestling, in volleyball and especially in football!
Even if Delany's intent was to "trap" PSU into the B1G, it still benefits PSU to have Maryland and Rutgers in the conference. PSU wanted more eastern teams in the B1G and it got probably the 2 best possible teams it could have hoped for outside of maybe Pitt (and that would be for rivalry purposes). Now PSU is no longer the outlier and 1/5 of the B1G is within 250 miles of campus. Regardless of whether you think it was to appease or trap PSU (I think it was to appease), it benefits PSU in that it will generate more revenue, get PSU more exposure in states they heavily recruit, and add 2 eastern schools that will pull the center of gravity of the B1G away from Michigan/Ohio State. That means I'm all for it regardless of what people think Delany's intentions are.
Let go of this big ten angst. We're here to stay and it is an incredible conference to be in.
Am I happy about some things? No. But this is the best conference for us.
Lets move on.
Misses says: "It's time to put a big ole corn husk up Delaney's bum and perch him upon a goal post." I laughed. But I also agree with her.
October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
