I think the offense takes another step forward in 2013. I really believe the run attack will be better and more receivers contribute. I think this team goes out and looks to hang big points each week with a 'that's what's up' attitude. Feel free to add your own thoughts.
The primary unknown in that prediction is the guy throwing the ball. Assuming he is sufficient, I agree we can take that next step.
I think the O steps it up with Lynch running the ball, Robinson as leading receiver, and Ferguson emerges as the starting QB. I think Hack red shirts. JMO.
"I like your head, it's a good look." - James Franklin, to a bald reporter asking a question.
Obviously it depends on who is spinning the ball for us. Also who steps up at center. Stank did one hell of a job for us. I think if we can get solid play from our center and right tackle, we have the potential to be a very scary offense. Gonna be very interesting to see how we split touches between the talent we have. Whether it is in the backfield, split out wide, or any of the stud TE's we have...seems as if we have the pieces in place.
"PSU a 3 to 4 win team" - New-era, September 2012
While I think we see Lynch some next year, touches will be hard to come by if ZZ runs as well as he did this year AND Belton gets back into the rotation. That said, I think whatever we do see of Lynch will be encouraging.
We find a QB, this offense will explode. Tons of talent all over the place. We should have a nice rotation at RB, a top level WR with a strong supporting cast, and the best TE unit in CFB. OL looks strong to me. It's all there.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
I wouldn't call what we have "tons of talent." RB is not overly talented, but has some good pieces. Belton obviously needs to take the next step. Zwinak is a very good big body. Hopefully Lynch turns some heads. WR has one top flight guy and then a bunch of other guys who will be fighting it out. Hopefully a guy or two steps up, but they weren't quite there last year. TE is definitely loaded - easily the most talented position on the offense.
I think akeel will see a good amount of time early on, if zach can be fresh for big ten play, the team will be better off.. A lot of weapons, I think bill will find a way to keep everyone happy..
? Then you go on to describe how much talent we have... We are loaded. We get a QB to be solid (not spectacular, just solid), and we will be a top offense...
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Wait what? If we had another very good WR and a more explosive RB (Belton obviously wasn't there last year, as much we all were hoping for) who can actually hold onto the ball, then I'd agree. Fact is, our backs have a huge fumble problem and we didn't have a reliable second WR. Loaded teams have a more complete back and at least two very good WRs. Also, we don't have great depth at OL. Offense is not loaded IMO, but it has some very good pieces and should be very good with average QB play.
Gotta agree with Shav. To many ifs to say loaded just now. Right tackle, QB, 2nd and 3rd receiver and a change of pace back all need to step up and our depth on the OL is a little thin imo.
I think the pieces could be there in GG, Lewis, BMF, Lynch and BB and I think Bench is going to surprise people. Need to see it happen though. Also, if ARob, ZZ, or Donavon go down though we will feel it cause there is no one to step in for them in those roles.
Not saying we won't have a top O but a lot of pieces need to fall into place still. To me loaded is no holes across the board and some ppl on the 2 deep that can step in and the team doesn't miss a beat.
Mosby Felder had a breakout year, and Kenney will get better with another year of reps (at WR period, as he just made the switch) in the offense... Everyone will be better the second year in the offense- and BOB will be better calling plays as he now knows the personnel well. Lewis will be better. Williams looks like he got bigger, Golden could get reps in the slot and returning P/K... I dunno man. I am very optimistic about the offense. The defense is what concerns me. Not the offense in the second year with one of the best offensive minds in the world that knows his team a lot better than he did last year... And everyone on the team getting a lot bigger and faster and stronger. Very optimistic. It all hinges on the QB though, as everyone knows. If Ferguson or Bench dont step up, we will be average. But if they are just solid and don't turn it over, we could be scary... You honestly dont think Belton will be better all healed up and actually having a year at the position under his belt (last year was his first year even playing the position)? Zwinack knows what to expect now too... I just feel good about the O. Less so about the D...
Cmon man... 2nd and 3rd reciever? Those are our holes? If we get solid QB play, we are just fine. We don't have many holes on O... Now D... There are some holes.
All about the QB and the development there - as almost everyone has pointed out. Wideout, tightend, running back, OL, should all be improved. Team and (and coaches) with another year in the system. Questions are on defense. My guess is we see our first sucessful first year signal caller. Definately going to be entertaining.
I'm certainly don't think our O will be bad, and I agree, it could be very good. Just to many if's right now for me to get to excited. Having said that, I am more excited about this o than I have been about any in a while.
The concerns I have on D are mainly depth and DT. I think we will be fine at DE and the secondary will be similar to last year unless a corner can step up and Amos can slide to safety. I like the LB crew. they will not be Hodges and MM but I think that Hull is going to be very very good and will take up the leadership role. Carson has always been underrated for what he does IMO. I think Wartman will be ready to go at the other spot. Staying healty will be the key though.
At DT some young guys are going to have to step up though.
Did you see what OB did with ton of if's last year??? He has almost the entire offense back... Cmon guys... Think about it.
If Arob goes down are you still saying that WR is loaded? If not then there are holes in the depth. There are guys there that are good role players but have not shown more than that yet. They have the ability but they have to do it first.
We have a returning 1000 yard rusher who didn't even play the first few games of the year. We have the top WR in our conference and one of the best in CFB. BMF really started to come on late and we have a lot of young talent at the position. And we have the best TE unit in the country. Do you know how many teams can claim to have that kind of skill? Not many.
Some of you have absolutely no perspective at all. You act like if we aren't Alabama than we suck. Let's be clear: this team has a ton of talent. We haven't had an offense like this since 08, and that unit was excellent. Just need a QB to make it all go.
Eugene Lewis, Kyle Carter, Jesse James, BMF, Lehman, Trevor Williams (have you seen pics of him recently?)... We will be fine.
You can say that about every single team in the country. Every single team has a few proven guys and then question marks after that. That is football. We are incredibly fortunate to have the proven talent that we have, because the vast majority of teams can't even say they have that.
This... I can't believe people are saying that junk lol We had an explosive offense with no proven pieces. Now we have proven pieces and they are complaining about the 3rd receiver? lol Cmon guys... Think about it. BOB would make it work if we didnt have talent... Now we have talent. Do the math.
And we have the best coaches in the country... Hixon is gushing about Lewis. BMF changed my opinion of him late in the season- and is only going to get better. Williams looks like he put on 10 lbs... I think we'll be fine.
3 of those 6 are TE's which I agree is the best TE group in the country. I think Lewis can be special, Williams and BMF are solid but not a # 1 WR on a "loaded" O.
Williams looks great, as do many of them, in case you missed it I will repeat it....I AM EXCITED about this teams prospects on O I just think maybe you are getting a little ahead of things until the guys that should do well and improve actually do on the field.
There is a natural inclination toward pessimism with PSU fans. Most other fanbases are much more positive about their teams. I don't get it.
Like you said, the same people last year were bugging out because guys that had never played (Robinson, Carter, Zwinak, James, BMF, Belton) were going to be the starters. Now they are all excellent players but we are worried about our 4th WR in the rotation and who our 4th running back will be, concerns that every team in the country have. It's ridiculous.
