there is a lot of scUM and Ohio State fans that look down on PSU, the same way you look down on Rugtes/Pitt? At least that's what my experience has been living in the midwest. I guess if you have never lived outside of PA, you wouldn't know. PSU has rarely played Rugters and Pitt in the last 20 years, yet there are a lot of PSU fans that start threads about those schools and their fans. Heck, neither team is even in our conference. (Yet)
To get any type of respect in the Big 10, a program has to beat Ohio St and Michigan. Recently it seems for every 3 wins Ohio St has over PSU, PSU has one over them. We all know Michigan beat PSU 9 straight times and we had to wait until RicRod to end that streak. I can't wait until PSU beats a 10 win Michigan team. During the same time frame PSU has struggled against Wisconsin and Iowa.
We all know that some PSU fans have low expectations. Hopefully after the sanctions have expired, OB and future coaches will be judged by the record against scUM and Ohio St as the #1 criteria. I think we all know that Ohio St and scUM fans expect to "own" PSU, much like they have owned the rest of the Big 10 over the decades. Personally, I feel PSU is a program on the same level.
OSU fans look down on everyone with their 1 NC in 45 years. The problem with Pitt and RU is 95% of their fanbase is delusional.
Somewhat, although not remotely on the same level as Rutgers/Pitt... What is your point? BTW - I live in Chicago so hopefully I am qualified to answer your question (sarcasm).
Sees nothing but wall of text.*
Next time I catch a bitch fit and berate a kid and call him a "fake Pennsylvanian" or trash him on twitter for going out of state to play football I'll be sure to read this.
In any event, the difference here is no one here is delusional enough to wonder "OMG I have no idea why that really highly touted kid wants to play at OSU or Michigan!"
"How could they want to play in front of 110,000 people for a great pro-style head coach when they could stay here in NJ and play for the team that couldn't even win the big east outright in front of 1/3 the amount of fans!?!?!?!?!?"

PSU, Michigan, and OSU are on a similar level when not crippled by sanctions or an awful coaching staff. Pitt and Rutgers, even at their best, lack prestige.
Sure...most are under the age of 30.
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
I think the point was:
PSU fans make fun of Pitt/RU fans and call them jealous constantly based on having more success than them for a long period of time. Then many turn around and say things like "Urban Liar" or "cheaters" or "O$U" when OSU lands a kid or has success and it seems like the same thing we make fun of Pitt/RU fans for. OSU has had more success than PSU the last 15 or so years and has been the better program by any objective measure.
The point was probably to cool it with the making fun of the others for being "jealous" when many turn around and act jealous of other programs in the same way. A "glass houses" type of argument.
I agree to an extent (I don't think UM should be included, they haven't had terribly more success than PSU and some things are unique - like Pitt fans wishing for kids to be raped or RU fans wishing that these people are shunned from their home state and never allowed back), but I still like reading about the crazies on other boards, just as I get frustrated, but still laugh, seeing some of the crazy homers on our board.

Honestly, living in Columbus, I get a different vibe. You have the most of the younger fans that know limited about the history of programs, but when you speak to the older fans - they have a lot of respect for PSU as a program and (before the sanctions) fears of PSU hiring the right coach. However, they don't like us because of what they feel like is a "holier-than-thou-mentality" that we had when we joined in 1990s. So of course they take more pleasure in us losing. However, most of them still put PSU in the blue blood category.

PSU fans shouldnt look down on a Rutgers team that wouldve beaten PSU last yr and Pitt wouldve hung with PSU. PSU lost to every good team they played last yr except Wiscy.
You're life must be as awesome as drowning in a manure pit.
i don't usually post.. but shutup...
#Jets #NittanyLions #Nets #CuseBBALL #Yankees
He should try it
Yeah, as opposed to all those top teams that Pitt and Rutgers beat.
If only Pitt could hang with Youngstown State.
I think maybe New Era is RutgersAL incognito. They both think Rutgers is good at football, they both dislike PSU, they both are completely outlandish, and they both bow down OSU and UM whenever possible.
I still laugh everytime I remember you pay to troll this board.
Aren't we something like 3-4 against tOSU over the past 7 games (and *just a tad* handicapped in this most recent game)? And aren't we on a 2-game winning streak against Michigan?
I don't think anyone has played tOSU tougher than us since we returned from "the dark years."
Edit: Just looked it up. We were 3-4 against tOSU before this most recent game in which we were just a tad handicapped.
tee hee hee. Such a cute little troll. The ridiculousness of your comments are laughable. Thanks for the smile and the chuckle
Don't care. If something like Rutgers thinking they are on their way to being a powerhouse makes me laugh, it makes me laugh. I'm pretty sure that it would make the rest of the college football world to laugh as well. Pitt at least knows that they are not likely to ever be a powerhouse again, they are just hoping to catch fire once in awhile. IMO, while their hate for us borders on crazy, at least they are way more realistic about their place in college football than Rutgers.
Bingo, phila. And we don't feel the need to play ineligible players to compete.
As soon as these BS sanctions for something that had nothing to do with football are gone, we'll show the B10 how to dominate.
We beat the best team in Pa.
We did... BUT Rutgers beat them as well. Somehow the 2nd best team in PA (Pitt) beat Rutgers though.... must have been a fluke because RU would clearly have beat our asses. Clearly.
And two UM games could've been won except for the all Michigan referees game(very bad calls) and 2 seconds added to the clock in another (our only loss that year).
Where I live in Fla, all UF, FSU and a few Da U fans all respect PSU. When it comes to each other, they trash the crap out of 'em. I guess it's regional.
It's also about the ages of the "fans". You can tell just by the language and sometimes the grammar. Joe always preached respect for your opponent. I can see how folks in western PA would find that hard to do given the "culture" there. Keep in mind also those two schools have been waiting their entire lives to badmouth PSU, but you still can't have a logical conversation with them. All I can say is it's geographic.
