Can someone explain to WHY Dukes is not getting more carries? Zordich is an ok back but he is better at Fullback! Dukes is a monster and it takes more than one tackler to take down Dukes and the kids averages over 5 yards per carry, he was Redd'dbackup last season and somehow he fell to 4th string behind Belton, Day and Zordich? What's going on because Dukes is easily the best of the four running backs, so like I said can someone explain this to me PLEASE?
Doesn't know the playbook.
Hasn't shown consistent toughness running inside.
Hadn't been able to protect his QB on blitzes.
He's now starting to show/improve all those things and in combination with injuries is playing more. More to football and being a RB than whats in the box score.
Easily the best? Are you related to him?
He looked pretty darn good this weekend and I saw him STUFF the navy linebacker on the blitz twice! As for the play book if I were the coaches I would have someone wioth him all time making sure he understands the playbook because he is the most talented running back we have, as for running between the tackles and showing toughness? You must not be watching the same game as me, because Dukes wqs dragging tacklers and it's not like Belton, Day or Zordich were bouncing off tacklers!
And NO I'm not related to Curtis Dukes

He doesn't know the playbook and he can't block (though he might be improving).
You wanted an answer, I gave it. You're going off one game against NAVY and discounting practice results, which is where you prove yourself first and foremost. He did well in the game, but I had seen him beat in pass pro too. Thus why I said he was IMPROVING.
But keep at it, you're rwally getting your point across. Especially with someone (me) who thought he should have started the last two games.
In short, he isnt as good as people either think he is or want him to be.
BacardiBuckeye: "But in all honesty I like Penn State, I want to see Penn State do good that's why I check this board everyday." 4/2/14
For all the love Curtis Dukes gets on this board I am consistently unimpressed. He doesn't seam shifty enough to be a make you miss back and he tries to bull people over and run through them but he never breaks the tackle, he just lays the lumber but falls down too. I've seen nothing that made me go "oh wow." I can't wait to get belton back in the fold, I think he will be a dynamic piece both running and receiving. This team lacks the home run threat outside of Arob and I think belton can be that guy.
I think he should have started the past two games, but he isn't better than Belton.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
I have a feeling that when Belton comes back, he (Dukes) will be the #2 back behind him (Belton). Also, if Belton isn't back for next week against Temple, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dukes get the most carries.
Bill O'Brien is mentioning him more and more in interviews, so I have a feeling he's getting his act together WRT the things that were keeping him off the field.
I for one am looking forward to seeing him get a few carries behind an OL that includes Donovan Smith -- Where he can get through the first level with a full head of steam, and scare the $hit out of some defensive backs.

I agree the Dukes isn't a real shifty back, Curtis is a one cut type of RB, kind of like Ricky Williams was. I hope that Duskes gets the start this week and they give him like 10 to 20 carries so we can really see what he can do, he shouldn't be getting less carries than Zordich, Zordich is a good kid and good fullback who catches the ball out of the backfield really well buthe shouldn't be getting the most carries on the team. I sorry if you guys feel different and there is no way that any of you will be able convince me that Zordich is a better running back than Curtis Dukes.
Literally no one tried to do that.
OK? like I said I would love to see what Dukes would do with 20 carries in the game, I'm betting that he would bust out for 120+ if he gets 20 carries.
And give up a blind-side sack and run the wrong way on a run play twice.
1. Learn to quote, ne2.
2. You just said no one could convince you of that, I pointed out that no one tried to.
3. Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't. Hopefully we will fine out soon. I'd definitely agree if he ever learned the whole playbook.
Who told youhe doesn't know the playbook? I don't remember hearing the coaches say anything like that.
Reported multiple times that he was behind because he missed all of spring due to academic issues. He also had a hard time learning the last playbook.
A coach would never throw a player under the bus like that, sans Kiffin.
He also needs to go to class more often. 5 times a semester isn't cutting it.
He is the most talented or biggest...there is a difference? PSU's longest run is 14 yards this year, so please point out these long runs where he is "dragging tacklers". He had an ok game, but Zordich carried more tacklers and is way more physical than Dukes. That is probably why he started and go more carries. I only wish Dukes ran or had the heart of a Zordich, he would be awesome to watch. Sorry, but you really must be watching a separate game as you are making things up. Dukes and Zordich each had 11 carries and Zordich had 3 more yards. This idea he had some ground breaking performance is in your eyes apparently. Decent game, but not overwhelming by any stretch.

"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
I was never dogging Zordich, he is the type of player who gives it all and plays with the heart of a LION!!! But in MY opinion I believe Curtis Dukes is the better player and Dukes is the type of player who gets better with more carries and again that just MY opinion.
Way to defend your position with something more than "its my party and I'll cry if I want to" as your defense.
Ok that is your guess which is fine. I just go by what I see them do. To be honest I think the offense he ran in high school hurt him more than anything else as they let him run wide all game long instead of in between the tackles if I remember correctly. Then you have to consider he was never ahead of Redd or Belton while they were there. Day was listed ahead of him, and now Zordich got carries to start the game. If you want to believe you know more somehow and it's something personal or the staff is just dumb....so be it.
what people are taking issue with is what you said right here:
"I sorry if you guys feel different and there is no way that any of you will be able convince me that Zordich is a better running back than Curtis Dukes."
No one said Zordich is the better back, you just seemed to project that. Everyone agrees with you that Dukes is a better runner with the ball than Zordich.
It's just that Dukes has screwed up some things (playbook, clases, etc) and that's why he hasn't seen the field. Playing RB isn't just about running with the ball downhill (which he is quite good at).
People forget that during, and after the Iowa, game last year, we got a pretty good look at Dukes.
He was very good against a worn out Iowa defense in the 4th quarter when we called nothing but running plays. As a result, he got increased pt. Then we started seeing his pass blocking skills, or lack there of, in subsequent games. He also ran the wrong play at least twice. The last was on the road against NW, and I don't think we really saw him after that. On top of that, you had his Spring/Summer academic struggles.
Hard to say where he should stand in the current pecking order. I really want to know why we haven't seen Lynch.

Heard he is still learning play book, not great on blitz protection and promise to play in a bowl game. Only achieved by RS.
