The BOT didn't gain anything they just avoided their rightful blame. Same goes for the 2nd mile.
Ganim reported what she was told to. Nothing more nothing less.
Typical politician. When it's time for votes, they parrot whatever they think will get them the most. When the crap was flying and the heat was on, where was he? Hiding, that's where. Again typical politician with NO ZERO courage to stand up for what's right. That's a message all you young folk need to learn and pay attention to when these idiots start to talk.
Is not getting their rightful punishment not a benefit?
Just so we're clear, you're upset Sara did her job?

Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Hey I'm a student and I'm totally against the BoT, Erickson, Corbett etc. Please don't lump me with TexasLion.. He goes over to the Pitt board and kisses their asses for God's sake.
Am I out of the family now?
EDIT: I'd also like to see where I have ever, ever said I agreed with the way the administration handled things. TIA.
I have a few problems with this narrative. I have no ill feelings toward Sara Gamin, she did what reporters do...they take information and create the story to the best of their knowledge. I don't know who fed her information, none of us really do. But her narrative is certainly different from what I read in Posnanski's book (pertaining to Joe anyway). Either way, she did here job and made a name for herself.
You need to be careful how you choose your words Texas. I'm not saying anyone is innocent. However I strongly believe that Joe really didnt know what was going on like many presume (because they say he is the almighty Joe Paterno). You can't just go throwing the word "cover-up" around so loosely. because to my knowledge, nobody has been convicted of such a crime as of yet.
You also talked a lot about who benefited from such a cover-up. What exactly does Shultz and Curley have to gain? Corbett has been well documented...follow the money, its public record. I believe the Second Mile donated close to $500,000 to Chubby Tom's campaign between 1998 and 2001? (don't quote me on the years but it was certainly after 1998 and extended to shower incident at least) Corbett himself slow played the entire investigation which he oversaw...thats also fact.
Penn Stater's are furious because it seems like a few very powerful people have been able to control the blame for Sandusky...Corbett being #1. I found it interesting that Tom Corbett put himself front and center when the grand jury report dropped...grabbed the mic and then became a ghost, just like he was for the 10 years leading up to the indictment.

Apologies to you then. Unfortunately yours seems to be a minority stance amongst the students I've come across.
"A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep"- Glenn Carson
People will see right through him. He seemed very fine with the sanctions when they were announced, but now, five months later, they are too harsh? What a joke.
I don't know if you used to knock her ugly ass around or what, but she worked directly with the people who allowed this to fester. She deserves no "honor" for that.
Corbett's a jerk. Sandusky got what he deserves. Schultz, Curley, Spanier will have their days in court. Ganim is a journalist, most do their job and is for their benefit. JVP got shafted by the media and the BOT. End of story.
About the only thing I saw her get really, really wrong was the "SuePa banned from PSU pool" stuff.
So she was getting information from multiple sources close to the information, doing her job and fulfilling her duties as a journalist.
I never said she was honorable. People on this board need some reading comprehension checks. I never said I supported the BoT, administration, that Joe knew about the situation, or Corbett or Erickson. The only thing I said was that Sara doesn't deserve to be hated for doing her job.
She doesn't deserve to be honored for being fed information from the asshole who allowed all of this to continue. She chose to fast track her career instead of finding out why she was being spoon fed the information, that nobody else could dig up. Nothing honorable about that, pretty sure the pulitzer is an honor.
As you infer, "Multiple" sources close to the situation gave ONLY her the information they had readily available for years. If that doesn't stink than maybe you like skunks.
Ganim got manipulated like a puppet by Corbett, the BoT, etc. The reason I have no love lost for her is that I think she knew she was being manipulated and used to get a narrative out to the public and instead of refusing to be a part of the shady antics she went right along with it because she knew it would probably be beneficial to her "celebrity" as a writer.
I'd hit it.
"You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That's the mark of a true professional." JVP
It's interesting because I think she first caught wind of something going on a message board similar to this and started to dig. As a reporter, you do not really fast track your career, she uncovered and broke a large story. I have found what she has reported to be a lot more down the middle, thoughtful and fact based then most of the other yahoos in the media.
The sources may have given her the information but if it was so readily available why didn't someone break the story sooner?
and donkey punch her with her pulitzer maybe....
Re-read the last 2 lines in the post you quoted. Then ask yourself the same thing I asked.
So you're upset with her not because she reported on the PSU scandal, but because she didn't push the stuff with Corbett.
OK, so somebody have her a Pullitzer. You're upset somebody thought her work was exceptional. You should say the committee who chooses those award recipients should eat feces, not Sara.
And Ganim taught my journalism class as a freshman. I didn't like her as a professor because she killed my interest in the profession and was inconsistent in what she wanted from my writing. That doesn't take away from the fact that she did a good job in her time at the CDT or in Harrisburg in regards to the scandal. I respect her as a professional.
I'm upset that she chose the self benefit of furthering her career instead of doing the right thing, and being an actual journalist. I think it's very clear that is the way I feel. I'm sorry it took you so many posts to understand that.
I concur. +1

I would never insult TX Lions intelligence like that.
