Dang... So why point out that they can't pay his staff if none are coming with him? Are you sure about Jack Arute. I have no idea who that is, so serious question. And interest can pop up at any time. You know this. If the opportunity presents itself, I'm sure we would do it. I mean we raided Pitt for goodness sakes... (Belton and Kline)
WE ARE! And we will always be...
IMO this is this difference between the SEC and the B1G. HC's in the B1G make comparable money but it just seems like the schools in the B1G won't pay what SEC schools will for assistants minus OSU, Michigan, and maybe PSU.
Dominate The State
You really don't know who Jack Arute is? Must not be a big auto racing fan lol. Jack Arute was a do anything reporter for ESPN for years. He did mostly racing and college football sideline stuff. No idea what he is doing now. He was mostly a racing guy but I think he has been doing more football stuff lately, not real sure. Anyway definitely an odd source but he must know something.
I think this is BS and a good cover for Beliema not to look like a bigger dick. Blame it on the school and lack of resources so he's not the bad guy, not that he wanted to leave and wanted more money. If that were true about the staff he would have taken them all with him and gave them huge money too.
Jack does a daily college football talk show - after the Bill King Show on XM
Arute is currently the host of a college football show on XM radio from 12:00 to 3:00 on weekdays. It's a call in show where he also has guests. Mike Leech use to be his partner before he took the Washington State job. Now there are various ex-coaches and players that co-host the show with him.
My apologies folks - it was Mark Packer, not Arute ... the more I think about it.
Who takes the Tennessee job? it is somewhat depressing read their board...my favorite comment was how can Penn State hire BOB and look how great of a hire that was...hindsight is 20/20....Heard Pelini's name come up a bunch after being shut down by Louisville...Papa John's paid the extension so he cannot afford health insurance for his employees anymore....
I kinda want to see Tressel end up there. WTF man they already have sanctions and struck out hiring any big name coaches and the up and comers have already accepted new jobs.
Maybe the staff he really wanted to keep already left him? 6 of his 9 assistance were new this year. That is a lot of turnover and he may not have been happy with how negotiations for the assistants that left last year went.
HAHAHA my Blackness will never allow me to like any sort of auto racing lol
Tennessee would be stupid to hire Tressel. There is that show cause thing attached to him.
Right now, there are two guys desperately trying to get out of their programs right now - Pelini and Fedora at UNC. I will guess Fedora gets first crack at Tennessee, unless they bring back Fulmer.
I saw he declined saying that he did not want to leave after only a year.
And it's terrible. Jack Arute stinks.
He has been trying to get out of there. He has reportedly interviewed for two openings.
I was reading the show cause with Tressel is relatively weak. I think the first year he cant coach in the first 5 games and then can't coach in the bowl game or something. I don't think it would keep a team from picking him up if they really wanted him.
Tennessee is f@$#^@$. I don't even know who they could reasonably go after that would really be able to hit the ground running. Strong, Fisher, Gundy, Gruden all would have been great hires for them. Now they are in trouble.
I wonder if they could still go after Kirby Smart. He turned down Auburn, but Tennessee is a really good gig and he could get them going again quickly with a strong staff. Maybe they can swing Fedora. Not good if you're a Volunteer fan right now.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
I think any school should really start to question itself if it takes a look at a coach who has something like this attached to his name - knowingly breaking a rule for nothing more than a win grab. To me, Tressel is in the same boat as Jim Harrick and like coaches.
Such a good job that nobody actually wants it.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Don't have a link but looks like Butch Jones to Tennessee.
*Edit* He has become the "front runner" Yeah, front runner in a one man race. Hard to see this not happening.

Facilities, staff and recruiting budget, fan support at UT are incredible. Second to none. In the past they have recruited at the highest possible level, with Fulmer pulling in some incredible classes during his time.
It is inexplicable to me that they can't pull off a big name hire. There has to be some hitch in this whole thing. I don't buy fears about recruiting, either. Kiffin was killing it when he was there and Fulmer was having success right up to the end. A strong coach would thrive there.
Totally agree, I'm pretty young and when I think SEC football I think Tennessee vs. Florida. From the mid 90's through early 2000's there was a ten year run when the SEC went through the east and went through Florida or Tennessee. Now it's the other way around and goes through the west with Bama vs. LSU.
I really don't understand why no one wants the Tennessee job? Is there something I'm missing? They play in the SEC, they seem willing to pay big money, they have a huge stadium, great facilities, decent tradition, and a rabid fanbase. I know they are under NCAA sanctions but how severe are they? Would someone care to explain why no one will take the job?

Reports out of Mississippi say #Buckeyes co-defensive coordinator Everett Withers is expected to interview for the Southern Miss job.
I agree they have a lot of great things going for them, I just think their hunger for success is beginning to bite them. They were put in a bad position by Kiffen, but Fulmer was a pretty damn good coach who they ran out the door. Dooley also did a decent job of cleaning up the program and setting it up for a run, but he was gone after a 6-6 season when there was a ton of unrealistic and unfounded hype built up around his team.
I'm an idealist, so try and be patient, but they don't seem very tolerant of a coach who takes time molding the program. They want success, and they want it now. If the coach doesn't give it to them now, they're going to fire him and bring in another guy. That's not exactly a secure job, where there is very little room for error before your seat starts getting hot.
I can see both sides of it, but I don't think its a coincidence that coaches are staying away. I thought Strong would be a certainty, but he didn't even take the job. I'm surprised they've whiffed on as many guys as they have, but I could see why they wouldn't be seen as a cream of the crop job anymore.
The only thing I can think of is their lack of patience.
They fired Fulmer, who had some very successful seasons at Tennessee. Even when they fired him they were competing for SEC titles every other year. Then they bring in Kiffen, who you can't really fault him for because nobody saw the USC job opening as quickly as it did, and then Dooley. Dooley isn't a bad coach IMO, but because he wasn't successful immediately he got canned.
It happens, but I personally could see why a coach wouldn't want to go there.
