Wasn't Brandon Austin a one time target or commit? For some reason I remember the name, but I see he signed with Providence?
If winning was easy even losers would do it.
Committed last March, decommitted the week following the sanctions. There were other circumstances that played a factor in his decommitment, though.
when is the next 2013 signing day for basketball recruits?
I thought he left because he was getting better offers? Providence? We beat them this year
"We have a culture of integrity. That's not new at Penn State and that's not going to get old at Penn State."
April 17th - but don't expect any signings for us. We don't have any scholarships to give out.
Watching march madness really shows how behind psu hoops is. Need a bigtime coach whose name can get talent. Im not a huge hoops guy but psu isnt even a top 75 program mYbe worse.
Thank you ... I saw Kentucky will sign 7, crazy.
Definitely the most important aspect of coaching is the name. I mean where would butler and vcu be without big name coaches. And Wich St could have never made the final four without a big name HC. Kentucky had a great year also with the biggest name in the sport who attracts the best 'talent' every year
I understand if it's not something you feel comfortable explaining, but could you share any more?
Butler and VCU have "big name" coaches because they won at those schools. They were not big names until they won.

I'm guessing you missed the sarcasm in his post.
unless he begin winning tourney games this year and next... the only way to change this is get a guy who will pay recruits... the PSU model BLOWS..... give me a kid 6-9 scores 20 and leaves in a year over what garbage we have
PENN STATE FOREVER
Yea, let's run Chambers out of town after two years where he was left to work with Ed's garbage talent and played nearly an entire season without the team's best player.
Chambers needs time to get his own players in. This is not an easy building job and Chambers deserves at least 4 seasons before we can get an accurate picture of whether he is the answer or not considering what he was given to start with. Having a big name coach would certainly provide us with the opportunity to instantly improve but we all know PSU isn't willing to commit those kind of financial resources to the program; any growth as a program is going to happen organically. And when you are historically one of the worst major conference programs it is going to take time.
next year it is tourney or blistering hot seat... sorry you can win a title in a year for CBB..... tourney or get ready to FIRE HIS ASS
with that said I think sweet 16
I think Chambers will get us closer to where we want to be but it will take TIME. Each recruiting class needs to build on the last. Slowly improve the quality of player we have. If he gets quality players, I think Chambers can get the most out of them.
This board is very good and knowledgable when it comes to football, but when it comes to mens basketball the ignorance is stiffeling.
The two most common and egregious commoners go something like this:
1) Man, I really like Chambers and our guards are great but we really need to recruit some dominant big men if we want to compete in the B1G! Answer: false, guards win in college basketball, having an nba quality center is not required.
2) Man, we really need a big name coach to come in here if we are going to be able to recruit top 100 players! Answer: False. If you need to have it explained at this point why that statement is the most ignorant of all, then you don't belong in a college basketball thread.
I partly agree with you, but look at the tournament this year (and every year for that matter). You need length. We need a quality big to compete. Period. Michigan doesn't have much, but the freshman McGary is long enough. Ross Travis is not a big. He is a quality player, but he is not a big. Hopefully the kid that got injured or the 7 footer that hasn't really played that much, or the incoming freshman is ready to go... We need a quality big to be able to start and play quality minutes. We have the guards next year, that shouldnt be a problem. But to compete on an elite level, you need bigs.
Edit: I agree with the coaching statements though. You don't need a big name coach, and Chambers should get all the time in the world to undo a decade of mediocrity.. And I think he's the right guy.

WE ARE! And we will always be...
Wouldn't hurt to have someone like M. Mcgary though.
Or Kelly (Im not even talking Plumlee) for Duke, or the 4 bigs that Florida has... Or 1 or 2 of the bigs the Cuse have... Or the senior leader that Butler had... Or even the length that Witchita State has. You need bigs (length at the very least). Period.

We don't need dominant big men. We need serviceable big men that can take the pressure of the guards who will have off nights shooting.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
To be built around guard play, you have to have the ability to make threes. At this point, we really don't have anyone who can do that consistently. Also just hitting open jump shots is nice too.
Phila is my favorite troll on this board.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Personally, making the NIT next year would be great and then consistently getting to the NIT and building from there should be the goal or a reasonable expectation. If it was easy to go from bottom feeder in a solid conference to top dog in one year why haven't other team been able to do that? Heck Indiana probably has as much tradition as most any school in the country and even they have struggled to make the tourney consistently over the past decade or so.
People seem to forget that this is PSU basketball ... we have just about nothing when it comes to basketball tradition. Also, it doesn't help to have several quality division 1 basketball schools in the state and most notably in the Pittsburgh and Philadelphia areas. Add to it that most of the top 5 players in the state choose to go out of state annually.
I can agree with GRS because he qualified his statement by saying "dominant" big men. In a guard based system, you can get away without dominant bigs, but you still need decent bigs. PSU is pretty void of quality post players currently and in recent history. Cornley was possibly of the best post player we had in the past decade and he was about 6'4". I agree that PSU doesn't need "dominant" bigs, but we certainly need to start recruiting better front court players if they are going to take the next step.
This. We have NO length. Im not talking quality bigs... Im talking bigs period...
