making the comment as "they like to call themselves Linebacker U, we like to call ourselves Linebacker U, lets see who is the real Linebacker U" (maybe a word or 2 off).
1. We are Linebacker U, dubbed that by someone else, and called that by others. Calling ourselves that, in agreement as well.
2. There is only 1 Linebacker U, and it isnt in question :)
Shazier is very very talented, and I actually like that he brought that up with a smile. Competitiveness is a good thing for kids/players to have. Good for him :)
Suck It Emmert!! and "Sorry for not being sorry for being a Penn Stater" - Philafan
I saw that, and when he said that I kind of chuckled.
Who's Dan Morgan...oops...I mean shazier?
Is Shazier the fullback who became a linebacker? Seriously tho, why on earth would anyone issue a public challenge to Mike Mauti and Gerald Hodges. Not too smart at OSU are they.
My my my.
IT's cute OSU LB's want that title. Which two are Butkus semi-finalist on that squad?
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
Nice! Thank you young Mr. Shazier. Much appreciated.
No Shazier, ESPN and other media outlets coined PSU as LBU and it has stuck since. It was earned. It's not only PSU who calls itself LBU. The only people who refer to OSU as LBU is OSU.
PSU had better linebackers last year and do this year. Shazier is the third best LB in this game.
They had their run of Diggs, Katzenmoyer, Wilhelm, Hawk and Laurinitis. Definitely a talented list there. They have also had some nice fill in pieces like carpenter and freeman, shazier has promise. They also had their oldies like Spielman and Johnson.
Penn State has a better list but OSU's lbers are nothing to sneez at.
BacardiBuckeye: "But in all honesty I like Penn State, I want to see Penn State do good that's why I check this board everyday." 4/2/14
Wait OSU likes to call themselves Linebacker U? And they are making a case for it this year? lol, ok.
No one is going to deny they didn't have a very good cast of linebackers roll through there. It would be foolish to say otherwise. Gradishar was a very good oldie as well.
Here is a good laugh for you, a few comments about the OSU being the real LBU.
I refuse to read any comments by OSU fans on their board. Knowing their narrow minded crew, we never had any good linebackers ever. They are still bent that Hawk didn't get anything.
Desperate to make a name for themselves. Sorry, Shazier. It only belongs to one school. And I think based on the first few games it is obvious which university that title belongs to.
ahahahahaha that second guy is serious thinking that list is more impressive than ours hahahahahahahaha
WE ARE! And we will always be...
The PSU the real. OSU have the raisin balls like Jose Canseco. Mauti make them humble old country way.
Well, I like his confidence but there's no comparison this year...there have been years our LB's have been better than yours, but overall no...and NO WAY this year...hell, we had to move our Fullback to MLB....
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
I think the FB turned LB is Zach Boren.
and Boren has done a pretty good job thus far. He isn't stellar, but he has filled in admirably.
Yep. Klein and Shazier ain't too hot though.
From the limited pieces of their game I've seen, I don't see what all the fuss is about with Shazier. He couldn't tackle to save his life in the game against Cal.
I really like Shaziers athleticism and I think that is where it comes from. He is athletic and when he does get ahold of someone he can be downright mean(see Kenny Bell getting tracked down on the long play in the Nebraska game a couple weeks ago)
How can you be a great linebacker if you can't consistently tackle?
Outside of Texas, I don't think I've seen a worse display of tackling than any OSU game other than the MSU game so far. Shazier isn't some shining beacon of light in an atrocious back seven, he just happens to be very athletic.

Navarro Bowman redshirt frshman year. He whiffed all the time. I was so pissed at him in that Illinois game. Anywho, just sayin. It is something he can work on
Exactly. I remember being frustrated like crazy at Gerald Hodges for whiffing on so many tackles early on in his career. One day it was like a light went on and he just seemingly never missed a tackle again.
So he can be great, but as of now he's just another great athlete in scarlet and grey who can't tackle.
If you're a linebacker who can't wrap up consistently, in my mind the best you can ever be is average. That's with exceptional positioning and coverage skills. What good is a linebacker in run support if his favorite game is pinball?
