Hey guys, the next Big 10 Roundtable is up. Here's the Conference Power Rankings thus far:
............................ QB......... RB/FB ........ WR/TE ......... OL........ DL ......... LB......... DB ......... ST........ Coaches
Here's the link to this week's Roundtable: http://247sports.com/Board/30/B1G-Roundtable-Pre-Season-Power-Rankings-Week-3-WRTE-19209902
It's open to everyone, so feel free to jump in at any time!
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Love these and how they are done. Wish I knew more about other teams to really contribute. I'd expect PSU to be #1 here for WR/TE with everyone returning and some new guys in the mix.
The perfect gift to add to your Christmas list or to buy for a PSUer in your family
I will LOL if we are not first in this one.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Well BTN did not pick Robinson as the best WR.
Dont think they ever said he wasnt the best receiver in the BIG, just that they think he will not be the leading receiving in yards in the BIG this year. Understandable as we will be playing either a QB who hasnt played a D1 snap and/or another who just got on campus.
Still doesnt mean we dont have the #1 WR/TE combo in the league though.
"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
Well, the nice thing about them is that the other posters from Big 10 schools will fill you in on their specific team, giving you a chance to form an opinion of the league as a whole at the position. We kind of have to come together for MN/Northwestern/IL since they don't have a 247 fanbase though .
I don't figure out my rankings until Friday, when we've gotten 4+ days of solid debate/info in there.
This is going to be a great discussion. PSU returns everyone, Nebraska returns most of their passing O, as does MSU (whether that's good or bad is up to you), IU has an accomplished group . ..
From a statistics standpoint, Indiana (seriously!) will and should get consideration. They were the Big Ten's #1 passing team last year and they return 10 offensive starters.
Now I'd take Robinson over anyone on that team. But IU is going to be in track meets all year long with the lack of Defense. BOB will probably be able to grind on the ground in a number of games. I love our flexibility better than IU's reliance on passing. But if you're going to isolate the position groups from a statistical performance, I'd rate them #1 and PSU #2.
If it were a talent-by-position rating, their WR depth is very good but I think our TE depth would give us a slight advantage.
Can't wait to hear the justification for why PSU is #3 on the list...
F the NCAA
F the BOT
I don't care how many yards they put up when they are throwing it 50 times a game. That's like saying Navy has the best running backs because they run it 40 billion times a year.
The best talent at the TE and WR position in the B1G is in State College this year. We have the best TE unit in CFB, much less the B1G, while we have the clear top receiver in the league with a strong supporting cast (including some young guys who I am VERY excited about).
I am more intrigued to see the justification of why tOSU will be first. They got a couple horses, but a lot of them haven't caught many balls.
BTW, I agree with you.
I'm saying that some may interpret the criteria differently. The TE depth takes on less relevance in every other B1G system. Nebraska, Iowa, MSU, and Wiscy will judge their TEs on the ability to block for the running game with occasional seam routes and check downs. IU has a very good returning TE in Bolser but focuses much more on spreading around to all 3 WRs (all very good).
Allow me for a moment to play Devil's advocate, you may also make the same case for PSU TE production. That B'OB's system inflates the TE stats beacue we throw more to TEs than anyone else.
The league-wide vote will depend on perspective and criteria. While I think PSU is #1, it wouldn't surprise me to see them #2 in the meaningless round table ranking.
Let's just say if this list goes by what the NFL thinks then PSU is number 1. I can live with other criteria mentioned but since it was never specified we can assume that OSU has a chance because they are OSU, and the Big10 is the Big10.
Alright kiddos, the votes are in for the WR/TE rankings (average ranking by the fans is after the -)
1. PSU - 1.52
2. Indiana - 2.41
3. Nebraska - 3.73
4. Michigan - 4.95
5. Ohio State - 5.18
6. Michigan State - 5.77
7. Wisconsin - 6.65
8. Northwestern - 7.41
9. Iowa - 9.20
10. Purdue - 9.23
11. Minnesota - 10.47
12. Illinois - 11.15
Notes/musings . . .
The top 3 were clear as day. #'s 4-6 were within .82 of each other, as compared to the 1.22 gap between #3 and #4. That was reflected in their respective rankings; Michigan and Ohio State both received rankings from 1 to 12, and though MSU was rated more consistently, fans still saw the Spartans as somewhere between 4th and 10th.
A vote of 1 space different separated Purdue and Iowa, and those two marked the clear boundary down into the bottom tier of the conference. If I had to divide the conference into WR/TE tiers based on the votes, Tier 1 would be PSU, IU and Nebraska, Tier 2 would be UM, tOSU and MSU, Tier 3 would be Wisconsin and Northwestern and Tier 4 is Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota and Illinois.
I was absolutely shocked the OSU fans couldn't boost them to at least 3rd.
Haha, what's that tell you about their WR corps.
If winning was easy even losers would do it.
The one OSU fan had them at #1.
hahahahahaha OSU fans
WE ARE! And we will always be...
It was that guy MattC, guy is one of the biggest homers I've ever seen.
And that fan needs his head examined if he really believes it. First, OSU is a run first offense and secondly, they don't have close to the weapons we have at WR/TE.
And he had them at #1 over and over again for every area so far.....smh.
'Respect All Fear None."
At least our WR/TE corps is getting the pub it deserves from other fan bases.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
He just trolls I believe, he doesn't actually believe what he posts (unlike many of the giant homers).
Was it really just one? I felt like the whole week was an argument about how the QB should influence how good the receivers are and them all agreeing with each other that tOSU was the best.
They were also crying because one of their players is going to play a couple of different positions and in their mind, that guy is like the best player ever, so they should have a leg up in every category (or something like that).
It did feel like people wanted QB play to determine WR/TE outcome. I wasn't going to get into it with people over the rating scheme.
What was really awe inspiring was the "McGloin made our team."
And the "our QBs couldn't hit the side of a barn." Considering Braxton Millers unquestionable passing ability.
