Our Wisconsin site has been reporting Golden as a candidate for Wisconsin and SI's Pete Thamel tweeted that Golden has emerged heavily at Wisconsin.
Could Al Golden need to buy some new red ties in the near future?

Just as I posted this, Thamel did a 180 in 32 minutes and is now saying Golden is flattered but staying at Miami.
I hope not, I always thought he would be a great replacement for BOB if/when he leaves.
Dominate The State
Is Miami actually going to get some NCAA sanctions eventually?
What's a coaching search without the usual names Golden, Petersen attached? I'm sure BoPel is calling Alvarez to try to get out of Lincoln. Fat chance he is a candidate.
I wonder if the NCAA has realized the threat of sanctions is actually worse damage wise then the sanctions themselves and the real way to kill a program is to keep them under investigation for as long as possible.
It would fun to find out the myths and truths on guys like Petersen related to coaching searches. What was actually real over these years.
I'm pretty sure Golden has been bringing in some pretty good recruiting classes the last couple of years. I don't think the threat of sanctions has hurt them too much.
I think what you say here has some merit (not that the NCAA realizes it as they are idiots) - I think this is what PSU realized and this is the reason they accepted the sanctions right away so that we could get them over with asap rather than having a 2-3 yr investigation and then get hit with them.. OB can already tell the next group (after this class) that they can redshirt and play in/be eligible for 3 bowls..
He almost can't miss even if he stays in a 100 mile radius of his campus. He knows that and unless they really drop a hammer on 'em, they'll be fine. The question then is whether he can coach 'em up. Right now he's got a great building block in his frosh RB for the next two yrs. Any sanctions they get will be a cushion for him.
Agreed. The more top jobs he turns down the more I feel like the only job he will leave Miami for is PSU.
I hope Golden never steps a foot on the PSU campus again unless he is coaching an opposing team. Never has such an average coach been so hyped. The guy doesn't have one decent win in almost a ten year coaching career.
Right - because EVERYONE wins at Temple.
Yeah, I second that, for all the inside talk about mind blowing names that were dropped for the PSU job, including Joyner himself talking about some of the eye opening applications that came across his desk, did we ever really get some confidence of who it was?
“If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.” ― Haruki Murakami
How many coaches were the coach at Temple while in the MAC? Anyone could have won after dropping down in competition like he did. He didn't even have any good wins over any of the good MAC teams in his career.
Any reports on Jon Gruden being the leading candidate for Wisconsin yet? If not, I'd like to officially start the obligatory "Gruden to Wisky" rumor right now...
I heard Gruden was having dinner with Barry Alvarez at a restaurant in Madison.
Dropping in competition? When I got there the year before the BOT met and had a vote to keep football. We had 25 scholarship players and were giving scholarships to undeserving players like candy. Golden beat a UCONN team that won the Big East and played in the Fiesta Bowl. He took over for Bobby Wallace who didn't give a shit so he was the 1st TU coach in the MAC.

LOL - Temple ALMOST dropped football. But you're right, any no talent hack can walk into that situation and win.
The longer this Wisky search goes along with the swings and misses Alvarez is taking, the more I think its going to be Chryst. What a shame that would be.
Totally agree. The one gem I heard was that Brian Kelly inquired about PSU but Joyner and Russ Rose didn't think his interest was legitimate.
Truth- Any Gruden rumors are complete bullshit unless you're talking about The League. And that includes PSU last year.
He beat OSU in his first year at Miami.
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
