Again, football-wise, it makes sense. I'd welcome it. The only football argument against it is the college football prestige in the Big Ten is still going to be considerably higher than the ACC, even if ND joined. See the link below. It points out that being near a population center does not create a fan base.
Money/academic-wise, it's not going to make sense for the next decade or two. Especially considering the Big Ten would have to kick us out. IIRC, the penalty for leaving the Big Ten right now is a loss of your TV rights for 20 years or something.
The possible realignment of college football conferences raises a host of interesting questions about fan loyalty.
While the Big 10 was respected 10+ years ago, I am not so sure now. Yeah, we love Big Ten football, but the rest of the country views it as old school and slow. SEC has won 6, probably 7 NC's, unless USC can beat an SEC team in the NC. In a few years, the ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Pac 10 will look even more different. I think we should be proactive. I would rather play in the ACC. It will help recruiting, and we might just be wanted in that conference. The mid-west players have lacked the speed and talent like the SEC and PAC 10.
Plus basketball wise it would be awesome to see Duke, UNC, Pitt, Wake, Clemson, G Tech, and even ND come to Happy Valley.
Maybe the money is too much to give up, I really don't know. Everyone keeps saying it is, but no one really has provided an answer to the R and D financing on why it would change?
I mean the big ten network is $20 million a year and there is no other conference that comes close to that kind of deal. SEC is starting to move in that direction and we will see.
B1G football sucks, and is not respected by the rest of the country.
We get our asses kicked in BCS games, unless there's a game against somebody like last year's VaTech team. I can't think of a legitimate national title contender the last few seasons other than Wisconsin, and I think they would've gotten creamed by Bama or LSU last year.
OSU is always overrated, and get shown up in BCS games.
I don't respect the B1G, and I'm a student here. As a fan from the South, not many people respect Big Ten football unless you're from that part of the country.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Big Ten - only because I live in Illinois. Otherwise, I would be all for a move to the ACC. Our "brothers" in the BIG have never had our backs.... You can bet if OSU or Michigan were in our place, they would have banned in conference transfers, appealed to the NCAA, etc......
He ain't heavy - He's my brother!
