Well, I'm glad OB is back. I was telling my cousin I never thought I'd see the day where PSU was up big and our HC would have us in no huddle shotgun pumping an imagined shotgun maniacally on the sideline as OB did vs. Iowa (my favorite thing I saw on PSU sideline all year!). So with that said I wish for.....more up tempo, an outside run game that gets the edge, our Wes Welker to emerge in the WR screen game, and a 2nd big play receiver to emerge (BMF had a nice year but was inconsistent at the close). I have full faith staff will develop the next QB--I don't care who it is. Please contribute your thoughts.
More FB dives.
Look for Lewis and lynch to push for some playing time and fulfill two of your wish list items.. There certainly is a nice amount of starters returning on offense with a nice competition at qb, but it will be interesting to see how the line develops.. We have 3 starters returning, but the depth at tackle is weak and need a guy to step up on the right side. Also do not underestimate what the inexperience at center can do to limit an offense. I have faith in Mac tho to get his guys ready and build depth so that 2014 will be the year it all comes together..
i hope we sure up the middle of our line again so zach can bulldoze through
I wanted to say that.
I worry about the QB position mainly due to a lack of experience. It will take any QB a while to develop with virtually no college experience, esp in a system like BOB's. Like this year, I can see us being a MUCH better team by the end of the season.
I really like the direction we are heading. I feel very comfortable with our QB position, even though we have little returning experience. It remains a lump of clay, that BOB and Fisher can mold in the image they would like. The one thing I see at the QB spot, is how much competitiveness these guys seem to have, and the leadership many have talked about from a young Bench to the in-coming Hack.
The offensive line has a solid returning core, and I think we have some strong guys who can step up to fill the void left by graduation. I really love Smith, Diff and Urschel. If Mangerio, Howle and a few of the younger guys can step up, we can be a force yet again.
The skill positions are what have me most excited. The athleticism, combined with the scheme BOB employs, will equal success on the field. I look for big years from Robinson, Carter, ZZ, James, BMF and Belton, and I really think we have some good young talent in Lewis, Lynch, Hamilton, AB and Williams. I really hope Kenny can step up this year too.

Last year, pretty much all positions were unestablished and concerns prior to the season. The line had huge question marks as well. BOB and his staff developed all of those positions with who he had, which is his biggest asset.
I think the QB position will be fine. I know very little about TF at QB but my gut tells me Bench will have a big year. If TF is good enough to get the start, the same is true to for him.
The OL is going to be stout. Have full faith in Mac getting the middle shored up.
Coaches have said Lewis is their most athletic receiver. He could potentially be another Robinson.
Lynch is advertised to be a stud.
IMO, Lewis and Belton are the 2 wildcards (other than QB). The backfield is too crowded. Too much unused talent there. I think Dukes is gone. My wish is to see Belton play some slot, or at a minimum, somewhere that we can get him the ball. He is too good not to but ZZ needs to do what ZZ does. If BOB develops the QB, there is more talent at the skilled positions than we have seen in a while. With good QB play, this offense can be scary good. I do Hope Hack and AB redshirt.
I want the OL to be as nasty as MTay
On a side note, I heard an interview on ESPN radio about Nelson has a nasty mean streak. We may have lost Dorian Johnson but I think Nelson and Mahon are going to be very good, All Big 10 caliber OL.
Not sure how poor hygiene will help our OL on the field
Irony being that Zordich had more carries last season than any FB I can remember in years for PSU. Good to see that some still cant pass up a shot at Joe, though.

I think Lynch gives us more of an edge running threat, but this wouldn't be that high on my priority list. I think a lot of folks think Zwinak did a good job "filling in" for the departure of Redd and the early season injury to Belton. I think this is a gross short-change to Zwinak. Had he started all year, he is a 1,200 - 1,400 yard back with good hands out of the backfield. And he wears down a defense, which is also very under-rated.... A beaten up defense in the 4th quarter is a huge asset and wins you games that would have otherwise come down to the wire. He imposes his will late in games. He needs to get better with pass protection, but I think this can be quickly remedied.
For me, the big addition to the offense would be the Welker-esque quick slot target to pull the defenses in a bit, so we can further exploit our wide outs and TE's. and then THE most important piece of any team - on either side of the ball, is the offensive line. We performed better than expected last year, but getting big, athletic kids on the OL will absolutely unleash the true potential of this offense....and that potential is H-U-G-E !!!!
If we can get half the production from the slot that aTm got from Swope, the offense would be unstoppable.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
The thing with the outside edge is it keeps the d spread out a bit more and would make ZZ more lucrative inside the tackles, and frees up the seam routes for the TEs-- look at A&M using the edge in the run game last night-they got it quite frequently against a pretty athletic defense. It adds one more dimension and I'm hoping we are a 80-90 snaps a game philosophy on offense. To your point, that wears a D down just as much as a punishing runner. The Big isn't ready to defend this weekly. Granted we don't have a manziel-athlete at qb so therefore we need a RB that gets the corner. Your CBs need to make tackles and cover downfield routes. Not many teams in the big have CBs that can do that for 4 quarters. ZZ has had a knee so I don't think giving it to him 30 times a week is what we will see, Lynch stuck and will get carries.
What the f*** did you just f***ing say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my f***ing words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, f***er. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re f***ing dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your f***ing tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re f***ing dead, kiddo.
He got the bulk of his carries as a tailback not a fullback.
I'm not taking a shot at Joe when I bring up FB dives. I like using the FB as a ball carrier.
interesting. too crowded at RB?
ignoring Dukes (senior, not really competing for any real time at RB, might be gone before preseason), I'm not sure we're as deep as you think.
ZZ - junior
Belton - junior
Lynch - freshy
Otherwise it's walkons. Not sure that's a crowded backfield (remember; last year we lost 2 RBs before we found ZZ... Belton went down then Day got hurt).
So if we manage to keep Dukes on the team and engaged enough to care... we've got 4 RBs this year. Not sure where R. Anderson comes in at.
