I find it ironic that the Pirates pitching was as good if not better than the Phillies pitching this past weekend when the Pirates are paying almost a third of what the Phillies are spending on pitchers (about 25 million for the Pirates compared to about 70 million for the Phillies). I know it was just opening weekend but if that was a sign of things to come I would be very worried if I were a Phillies fan.

Idk whats going on with the Phillies. I was surprised to see they lost the series to the Pirates and then lost again today to the Fish with Hamels on the mound.
Absolutly you have to do much more in game managing in the NL than the AL, but its also not easy dealing with a roster of superstars and superstar personalities.. And to your point about the Cubs (lol) add the Mets (lol) also.. I get the mid market large market stuff, but even tho St Louis is a mid market team technically, I never thought of them that way.. I always much more regionally driven.. The Cards have truck loads of tradition and a dynamite historic fanbase that is loyal.. Cards fans go watch them play regardless.. When there is steady significant fan interest in a team it forces management and ownership to keep the best possible product on the field.. I cant believe the Cards didnt pay Albert whatever it took to keep him.. I'm sure you werent happy with your ownership letting him go to LA.. I kno if we had a player of that caliber at that point in his career and the Yanks let him walk people would lose it.. I'm still a little upset they traded Alfonso Soriano, even tho we got A-Rod and Fonso never lived up to the hype after he left..
Actually the fan base supported them not paying Albert that much. We know we have a payment restriction. Now its bigger than most mid market teams because of the history and regional following, but its still there. In St.Louis ownership wasn't given a hard time, and more often than not supported for not signing that contract.
Edit: I too was fine with it. My boss is a die hard and when Albert signed I looked at the contract and said "cant blame them, we cant pay that much and expect to win". I think I've said as much on here.

No damn offense man. It's terrible. The lineup is atrocious. Hunter Pence is the only formiddable offensive threat we have. Until Utley and Howard come back (assuming they are both healthy) this team will struggle on the offensive side. The pitching will be there too, at least with the starters. The bullpen has been spotty so far this season too. Still very early though so I'm not freaking out too much....yet.

Matt Holliday says "what up Cincy"
If anyone ever tells David Freese that it isn't October 2011still I will hurt them.
2 things watching the Cards game:
1.A stat just popped up that shows that the Catds have hit more HRs this year (9) than the Phillies have runs (8) of any kind.
2.No one is at the Cardinals/Reds game in Cincy. Its pathetic.
. If you really wanna see something special watch the Rays this year....Nothing makes me happier then watching yankee or red sox fan cry like a baby...jk.. The players r great when they r down here.
And seeing someone call Joe Maddon the man makes me cringe, so there you go. If he's so successful, how come his fingers have no tan lines? Oh that's right, for the fans outside of NY and Boston a successful year doesn't have to include a ring. Sorry, that's not how I grew up thinking.
"A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep"- Glenn Carson
The rays are definitly a scrappy team and they are tough to beat, but, and I'm sorry about this, they will never frighten me.. I guess they will always be the Devil Rays in my eyes.. lol..
Sucess=Championships.. And its plural on purpose..Anything other than a world series title is a failure..
I enjoy the way he manages a game, like he actually thinks about baseball at all times. Its nice to see. I didn't call him the best manager in the game or anything, but he skippered the Tampa Bay Rays to an AL championship, in which they lost in the WS. Idc if that isn't a HOF thing, but it does make him successful. He is well respected throughout baseball, knows the game, and wins. I would love to see him win a WS, but with that team it isn't probable. I like Scioscia as well, though I think he should'v edone better given the payroll and teams the Angels have had. But hey, I like the guys who I can respect thinking through a game, I love watching my managers play puppet master, even if I bitch when they do it too much. Its good baseball.
But whatever, sorry I think he's the man for being a good baseball man.
And I forgot fans outside of Boston and NY don't know what success is. Jackass. I'll give it to the Yankees, they're the only team with more success than my franchise, and I have nothing more than respect for them. They've damn-well earned it. Don't talk to me like I am some Cub fan who wants to eek out the division.
Personally I really didnt like him including the Red Sux in his assesment.. All these Red Sux fans got sooo excited, as they should have, but they seem to have forgotten what it was like for them before.. They are starting to remember now.. There are only 2 franchises in MLB with a history of consistent championship success.. I like the fact that they make the Cardinals shirt that says "Got Rings" also, I have one for the Yanks, but I thought it was great that the Cards make one too..
Why do you hate Joe Maddon so much? Are you a sux fan?
He's just perpetuating the myth that nowhere but NY and Boston or the East Coast in general can there by any truly great franchises. 11 WS in 18 trips. The Sox just started winning a decade ago. There are some great Sawx fans, then there's these guys that forgot they sucked for quite a few decades, of which i am way too young to remember to be honest, and recently got good.
That said Bobby Valentine should do a number on that organization. I can't believe they stooped that low to hire him.
JT how's the AL East race looking this year? You seem pretty non-homer, and I don't get to pay too much attention to it here in IL (luckily lol). I assume NY is favored, but the Rays or Jays looking to move by the Sawx? I know Toronto is one of the teams I think are in line to benefit from this new playoff system (which is dumb).
I was so happy they hired Bobby V.. Where I live its pretty equally split Yanks Sux, and the day it happened the looks on the Sux fans was just priceless, I mean real sux fans, not the ones that bought hats in 2004 and decided they were fans, these guys were just like "well, these last few years were fun, back to normal".. Bobby V hasnt disapointed so far either, he's everything I thought he would be and more..
I think you pretty much got it.. Prob will finish, 1.Yanks/Rays 3. Toronto 4. Boston.. But there is a chance that all 4 of those teams could be above .500 or really close.. The east is going to be a nightmare this year.. I wouldnt go as far as to say I'm not a homer, I truly believe that there is no franchise in sports much less baseball that are as great as the Yankees, but I'm fully capable of having a civil discussion, and I have alot of respect for other good franchises..
Its also hard to argue with 27 World Championships. I respect the Yankees, don't like them. But no one likes Darth Vader. Lol
Yeah the AL East sounds like a dog fight this year. Lot of money and a lot of talent being thrwon around there. Should be interesting to see how the AL as a whole matches up.
AL as a whole is extremely top heavy, with the Rangers, Angels, Yanks, Tiger and Rays on top, with good Red Sox and Jays. After that though it's pretty slim pickings.
I love baseball.

Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
So who do you all think makes it to the World Series?
My picks are the Tigers and Arizona. Tigers take the crown. (I would've picked my Phillies but they are getting old, injury prone, and lack an offense so they'll be lucky to make it out of the first round of playoffs again).
That's one hell of a top though. I think saying the NL is "top light" would be an overstatement. Luckily, this gives the Phils as good a shot as any at the pennant.
I've noticed in several threads that when someone disagrees with you, you seem to resort to name calling. You asked me why I don't like him. It's not because of his success, as he really hasn't had any. It's his arrogance, and the Francisco Cervelli play for starters.
As for the classy way you ended your post, I have no problems with you feeling that way. I am very thankful everyday that I am from where I am. But your bullying on this board is getting a little tired. There's no agree to disagree with you, it's I'm insulting you with a name. Everyone has an opinion, and most will express it. Try to debate a little more and insult less.
I could care less about disagreeing, I have fun with that. The one throwing the insults around were you with that crap about the only places that care about winning are Boston and New York and the elitism you falsely hold about yourself.
Fwiw, I was having fun with the Joe Maddon thing. I laughed that someone could hate him, I didnt know anyone did. Like I said I don't get to watch much AL East baseball. You're the one who steppped in with the insults. I am happy you're proud where you come from, everyone should be. Doesn't mean you're the only one who measures anything in championships and you can talk down to me as a fan. Especially if your a Sawx fan.
That's all I am saying. If you think I'm a bully, I'm sorry. I think I'll sleep. I love debating on here.
