    There is a 10 day window for current players to declare their intent to transfer and remain eligible for the upcoming season. Other programs can also freely contact our players in this 10 day window. August 1 is the closing date.

    Okay, so what happens at the end of the season? When does the window open back up for them again?

    Also, an interesting note, the USC guys were saying that if the freshmen stay we should redshirt them right away. According to them, once they have a possibility of playing in a bowl game, the free-to-transfer rules no longer apply to them.

    It would make almost no sense for a senior to leave because of these sanctions.

    If they want to watch a bowl game in person, they may as well just buy a ticket, because it would be very tough for them to earn decent playing time at this point.

    That part isn't spelled out in the sanctions on NCAA's website. But the ability to transfer is not contingent upon the ability to appear in a bowl game.

    The sanctions state that any CURRENT player or INCOMING FRESHMAN will have this right. It will not apply to incoming recruits for class of 2013 and beyond.

    Another interesting note...PSU players are permitted to take official visits during this 10 day period in order to make their decision.

    IMO, these sanctions were drawn up in haste and things aren't even totally fleshed out yet.

  • This is my opinion, but from following his time here, Zordich would be the very last player on that roster who would leave.

    Even if he was the only one left, and he had to trot out there all by himself & take 11 guys on solo, he'd stay at PSU until the end.

  • Alex Buttersworth is staying per a newspaper in Indy .....

    A former local high school football standout who currently on the Penn State roster is staying put despite the NCAA's harsh penalties levied against the program on Monday.

    Former Heritage Christian kicker and punter Alex Butterworth, who will be a junior at Penn State, posted on his Twitter account Tuesday that he was staying at the school. NCAA president Mark Emmert said Monday that Penn State players would be able to transfer without penalty in light of the sanctions handed down following the school's cover-up of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of young boys.

    Butterworth tweeted: "I know there has been some talk back home but Coach (Bill) O'brien has my back and I'm going to have his I'm staying Blue and White "WEARE"

    Butterworth did not respond to an interview request. He punted eight times last season for a 38.5-yard average.

    They had been sniffing around Neiko for a little while.

    OK, that's his first relatively major offer besides us. Will have to see how committed he really is.
