I heard this same thing. The way I understand it is that CURRENT players can up and go whenever they want during the 4 years of bowl bans. I think that the current class and future classes will be locked in under normal rules since they will know what the situation is before signing.

If that is incorrect, please let me know.

Under this situation, O'Brien is going to have some pressure to win right off the bat. Losing and poor coaching will completely obliterate the team with people wanting to get out of Dodge.

I thin it goes that if you could play in at least one bowl, the exemption rules don't apply. All are eligible this year due to the 4 year ban.

So if we only had a 2 year ban, only juniors and seniors fall under the exemption granted

According to Joe Schad on ESPiN's Mike & Mike this morning, standard NCAA protocol will allow players to transfer without having to sit for as long as the university is under a bowl ban.

This means that there will be the threat of any player transferring for the next four years. In essence they are all free agents with one year contracts. The character and mettle of this program will be tested each and every season.

I would find that very hard to believe. The NCAA does not want to work in a "free-agent" system for any type of extended time period.

Just heard from source who has spoken with someone close to #PennSt RB Silas Redd that there is "no chance" he transfers.

I believe USC was under the same system. I recall players transferring prior to the 2nd season of their sanctions without having to sit out a year.

I am sure not everyone is going to stay, but that is an encouraging statement!

Unbelievable. I know there will still be some fallout, but this says a ton about the character of players who decided to become student athletes at PSU. Its also a big middle finger to the NCAA that your university, teamates, academics, and integrity are more important than bowl games.

I'm seriously contemplating trying to get season tickets for this year. I've never been so moved and proud of a team. Those who stay (both on the current roster and the 2013 commits) deserve our support more so now than ever before. Win or lose, these guys have lit a spark and I will forever be grateful.

if these kids all stay, we better get 110,000 out for every game for the next 5 years, regardless of record. Those who stay may not be champions, but may be legends.

Well said. I'll give you credit whenever i can, but I'm definitely stealing that line. That should be the battle cry for the next 5 years.

One thing I never really thought about...loyalty from current players could really impact recruits. We know AB said he was still committed but he said that very shortly after the news. However, if he sees people stay on the team, it will be easier for him to become more firm in his decision, and it may help Hack as well.

And if 2013 mostly stays, that will be a huge help with 2014 and so on. I really believe the next 10 days are the difference between a few years of decent.medicre teams before the roar comes back or a 10 year rebuilding process. Things sound great with the players and recruits now, but a lot of coaches will have a lot of time to talk to these kids and what they are saying is going to make sense.

  • I think the fan support and turn out will have a tremendous impact on these young men's decisions. I can't tell you how many have taken pictures of the sign placed on the door at Lasch from a fellow student. If we have 100k there every week at home supporting them through all this, it will be a lot easier to stay than if the stadium sits at 75k and is silent. The next 9 days will be the hard part...

Camp starts in about 10 days so I assume that's what it means.

Other schools have 10 days to recruit our players. The players also have 10 days to declare whether they'll transfer as it pertains to the upcoming season.

It's been referenced that the players would need to transfer before August 1st, as that marks the start of the season and their eligibility is officially "claimed". If they transferred after that mark, it's for NEXT years eligibility.

I think... Anyone smarter than me want to splain it?

There is a 10 day window for current players to declare their intent to transfer and remain eligible for the upcoming season. Other programs can also freely contact our players in this 10 day window. August 1 is the closing date.
