  • Great article Jeff!

I loive Penn State. PSU has been more important to me than my family for reasons that don't need to go into here.

It sickens me that this BOT is leading our university. Rods dismissal of our history of integrity yesterday killed me. I really feel a part of me died with that comment.

We do need to move forward. IMHON that's means finding the truth and acting accordingly from there. The problem is a lot of people just want to sweep it under the rug.

I wonder how many alumni care? How many want the truth vs how many just want to move on? We have 500000+ alumni if enough demanded the truth we should be able to get it. I fear not enough people care.

Ken Frazier being the face of our university... Its a sad, sad, sad day for Penn State.

  • Good article! Thanks Jeff. I disagree though, that there is a growing split among the alumni.

I think most of the alumni base was ok with the idea that Joe had to go - almost to a person we seem to believe that Joe should have done more (or at least that is my sense), and that includes Joe himself. The conflict here isn't about moving forward really, it's about painting one of our most beloved alumni as someone who actively protected a child molestor, as the Freeh Report - and now Ken Frazier - accuses Joe Paterno of.

That specific point,. I don't believe is a partisan issue. Personally, about 90% of the Penn State alumni I know, do NOT think Joe actively covered up Jerry Sandusky - and that includes people who don't really care about football. These are also people who are aware of what's in both the Freeh report and the Paterno Report.

I do not believe there is a divide among the alumni base. I think the alumni are mostly together. The only divide here, is between the alumni, and the BOT.

    EDIT

The BOT could resolve this issue in about 5 minutes. Simply say they disagree with the Freeh Report regarding his OPINION of Joe Paterno, will honor Joe as he deserves to be, return his honors, see what - if anything - they can do about the NCAA sanctions, and comply with the recommendations set forth in the Freeh Report.

  • This and many of the comments within by the Lettermen echo the feelings and comments of my close friends who are Lettermen. The divide between the BOT, the University, the Football program, and the Lettermen is truly widening. Unfortunately I am not sure what exactly will change this. Accountability and time are the main factors, but the program they grew to love and were indoctrinated into had changed so dramatically through all of this that I'm not sure how it plays out.

My experience is literally the exact opposite.

    BOT should take note.

  • I cannot tell you how many times I've played out the scenario in my head of what I would do/ say to someone on the BOT...If I "happened" to run into them.

I've never been arrested in my life, but there's a first time for everything I guess.

  • If I read the BoT selection process right the business and industry positions are selected by the board themselves.

Other than self elimination, how do they ever leave the BoT?

Hopeful that the State of PA gets involved.

  • Good article Jeff. And great picture of Joe. That's what a leader looks like.

"But you also have to wonder if he would have been saddened by the growing divide between the people who lead his beloved university and the students and alumni who believe those leaders still have much to answer for. "

I do not wonder this. Joe would be saddened by the gutless leadership and would be proud of his players, the students, and alumni who have still have the sense to know him and that he would never conceal for Sandusky. It's preposterous. The truth will come and we will remember those who stood on the wrong side.

  • Mr. Frazier is quoted "documents APPEAR to show, in varying degrees, that people who were in a position to protect kids did not do so."

Well Mr. Frazier it APPEARS on the radar, that it is snowing at my home right now and I just walked outside and the skies are clear as can be.

I've been wondering about this as well. It seems that very few of the positions are actually up for election/vote. I would love to see the majority of these people gone. How do we as the alumni and supporters of the university in general get these clowns out?

  • I think we all want to move forward in some manner. There is much that will remain in the dark about much of what has gone on for many reasons. We as Penn State do need to hold ourself accountable in some regards as whether due to inaction, deceit, or just inadequate measures of adjustment to policies. I feel that monetary sanctions should remain in PA and go towards the start of helping assist those who have been abused or prevention of those who could be abused. I understand the probationary period to oversee refromations of adjusting to new policies. I think the reduction in scholarships in beneficial in ways which help revamp how our football team is built and show EVEN more how it has high character. I disagree with the removal of wins due to the facts it really has no consequence other than trying to rewrite history as some sort of poke to the eye of alumni, fans, players and past coaches. I felt that was petty and unfounded. There is far more to this case of abuse than anybody wants to admit. Elected officials, organized crime, and innocent children are completely being overlooked as it has been plainly shown through resourceful individuals and collective groups. The BOT is not exempt from changes to come. That is part of the reason we are sanctioned. I think I speak in regards to a fair amount of the population when I say: we just want the truth and things to be adjusted in a way we may all avoid future snafus. My outlook does not overlook nor negate the tragedies and awful things that have happened. I feel everyone is just looking to help heal wherever necessary. Ignoring the direct issues is the farthest way to assist in anything. Glad to know people are speaking up!!!
