Good article! Thanks Jeff. I disagree though, that there is a growing split among the alumni.
I think most of the alumni base was ok with the idea that Joe had to go - almost to a person we seem to believe that Joe should have done more (or at least that is my sense), and that includes Joe himself. The conflict here isn't about moving forward really, it's about painting one of our most beloved alumni as someone who actively protected a child molestor, as the Freeh Report - and now Ken Frazier - accuses Joe Paterno of.
That specific point,. I don't believe is a partisan issue. Personally, about 90% of the Penn State alumni I know, do think Joe actively covered up Jerry Sandusky - and that includes people who don't really care about football. These are also people who are aware of what's in both the Freeh report and the Paterno Report.
I do not believe there is a divide among the alumni base. I think the alumni are mostly together. The only divide here, is between the alumni, and the BOT.
EDIT
The BOT could resolve this issue in about 5 minutes. Simply say they disagree with the Freeh Report regarding his OPINION of Joe Paterno, will honor Joe as he deserves to be, return his honors, see what - if anything - they can do about the NCAA sanctions, and comply with the recommendations set forth in the Freeh Report.

I do not wonder this. Joe would be saddened by the gutless leadership and would be proud of his players, the students, and alumni who have still have the sense to know him and that he would never conceal for Sandusky. It's preposterous. The truth will come and we will remember those who stood on the wrong side.
