Column: Lions build from ground up

The hustle plays Patrick Chambers' Nittany Lions are making this season could mean more than a handful of possessions won in the long run.

  • Great article Jeff.

Loving coach chambers intensity and can't wait to see what he can put together down the road..

Regardless of this year, future is bright for MBBall under chambers

  • I will hand it to Coach Chambers. He has taught them to get after it every time they go up and down the court.

  • Next year Travis may play the 5 most of the time and then they can go real small with Newbill, Marshall, Frazier, and Austin/Johnson. Thorpe, Banks and Woodward all play outside. Somebody probably leaves the roster from the frontcourt and after you add Moore - I don't how many minutes the bigs get. Graham, Ackerman, Jacks and Moore may all split backup minutes. Who do you redshirt? Will Akosa ever play?

  • I know it's a little bit of a stretch but the attitude, confidence, and intensity reminds me a little of Coach K and Duke. Duke players are hustle 100% of the time. Every one of their players dive for balls. All the Duke players run over and help their teamates up. I hope PSU can add one more key area that Duke excels: Defensive intensity!! The skill of the players may not ever be that of Duke but defensive intensity is all about attitude and work. Our guys have lapses at times. But overall, love where are program is headed. They have the right coach leading it.

  • I dont follow BBall much...
Calhoun is on OTL right now and got me to thinking about a few things.

First, he just said "In 5 years, I dont believe the NCAA will exist." "No leadership from the NCAA." Of course he is probably still upset for his team lacking in academics.

Second, isnt Philly one of the most talent rich areas for Bball? Why cant we pull some of these top rated kids. You'd think we'd be able to get one big time recruit every cycle or so. Is it because of all the basketball tradition rich schools in this area?

We are recruiting much better though, I think.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Have you seen our record this year? It isn't the prettiest! I do believe once we start getting in more of the kids the Chambers wants in his program, we will get better. With better play comes the fighting neck to neck with other schools for top rated kids. I see this starting to happen in the next 3 or 4 years. If we can start consistently making it to the NCAA Torney, I don't see us having problems going after a top rated recruit.
