Why in the world would Jimbo leave FSU for Auburn? Something going on in Tallahassee I'm unaware of?

This is what jumped out to me as well. Jimbo moving from FSU to AU seems like a lateral move at best. Does he have any ties to AU that might make sense?

Jimbo was the QB coach for Bowden or Tuberville at Auburn for five years. He has strong ties to the SEC at Auburn and LSU. He is sick of FSU's standing in the BCS primarily of them playing in a weak ACC. It's FSU's fault though. I mean starting out with wins over Murray State and Savannah State and a loss to a bad NC State team doesn't help the cause.

Jimbo also graduated from Samford, I believe, which is in Birmingham.

I don't see that being a good fit though.

thanks for that info, because my lazy behind didnt look it up at work.

I guess with that info, he may like AU, but from a football standpoint, seems like FSU is finally back on the rise, while AU is falling off a cliff.

I'm not saying I would make the jump if I were Jimbo. He could rule the roost of the ACC for the next 10-15 years easily, unless PSU shows up in the ACC, then ... I kid, I kid.

Why leave a program like FSU, where you have great recruiting and can go to the BCA bowl game nine out of every 10 years based on the fact the ACC is somewhat weak and go to Auburn, where you are behind Bama, LSU, aTm, Mississippi State and Arkansas in their own division for starters?

If the ACC is so weak then FSU shouldn't lose any games, and have an easy path to a NC. Frankly if that's Jimbo's excuse, it's weak as hell.

He ruined that kids life... But yea I guess the rant was cool.

Gundy ruined that kids life? Or do you mean the writer and editor?

He defended him when the paper printed a story with either unverified or unauthorized quotes, and just ripped into the kid.

I actually like Kill, it's too bad they can't get things figured out up there. Just a tough place to succeed.

Purdue comes open, but who knows who takes that job. Maybe Narduzzi from MSU?

I think Illinois gives Beckman some time. One season isn't enough to judge a coach.

Actually, I can see Gundy fitting in at UT-Knoxville. The way he talks is perfect. UT has a nice core of offensive weapons to build with - granted, they are mostly juniors and could leave after this year. If Gundy came in, Bray, Hunter, Patterson and some of those OLmen might stay. Gundy better find a better DC than he has at Okie Light if he heads to Kville.

Sure he would fit in, but Tennessee doesn't have the emotional attachment that OkieState has.

He also doesn't care too much for defense. He's a poor man's Chip Kelly IMO.

The only way Minny comes open is if Kill steps down. Kill is an awesome guy and a good coach and what has happened to him is just awful and may be taking its toll on the program. That said I doubt it.

Illinois, well all 12 Illini fans are pissy about the hire. But Illinois can't afford to be paying three coaches (Weber, Zook, and Beckman) not to coach. Mike Thomas is already flaming out among boosters as well. I don't see them pulling the plug already. Their budget sucks (I know).

Reid has come out and said that Gundy kinda screwed him over in Stillwater. He also said the rant was the last straw and after that he had a tough time at OKST. Thanks to Gundy the kid fell into depression and had to leave the school. Espn had an article about it.

Good coach, yea. Good man? Idk I'm reserving judgement.

I thought he transferred because of playing time. Interesting he got upset about Gundy defending him. Personally I'd like a coach who stood up for me, but I guess its different strokes for different folks.

And Bobby (is his last name really Reid? I couldn't remember his last name) really was not the best option when he was at OkieState. He was very talented, but he turned the ball over way too much, and in a system that depends on offensive efficiency you can't do that.

Eh he supposed to be the next Vince Young or something like that. I didn't follow too closely, but it sounds like he passed for 25 TD's and 11 INT's with a 55% completion percentage (not bad) his sophomore year then was benched because Gundy just liked Zac Robinson better. To me the kid got beat out for the job and didn't know how to handle it. Understandable because he was a 3 year starter, it's a tough transition.

The bad part to me, it that Gundy told Bobby Reid that he was the unquestioned starter, played him for 3 years, then benched him and didn't give him a reason, didn't try to help him get better or cope with it.

The end of the day, Gundy was young and wanted to win quickly to prove himself. Focused more on that then he did his players. That's probably changed now, but I do feel for the kid since he signed up to play for Les Miles and had to settle for someone that didn't believe in him.

Coaching changes happen, its a part of the game. I always felt bad for Bobby Reid, because even though I was young I knew OkieState had a talented guy who was always a magazine's darkhorse for the Heisman.

FWIW, Zac Robinson came in and played pretty well himself.

I agree with you about him not being able to handle it. Too bad to hear.

Agreed here. Liked him a lot. Thought he might be able to be a good QB in the NFL (backup) but I don't think he was ever able to stick around. He's probably on a practice squad somewhere

Cincy. I have friends who live in his neighborhood in Denver. Great kid and family from what they say.

Gruden's wife was a former UT cheerleader I believe. No chance will they get Gruden if the bEagles continue to suck.

Nope. The buyout is supposedly about $20m. Not going to happen. I'd think they might look for better coordinators though.

  • So thought I might try to gives this a bump. Gene Chizik officially out at Auburn, John L Smith not surprisingly out at Arkansas, Tom O'Brien out a NC State. Joker Phillips gone at Kentucky, Jeff Tedford fired at cal and oh, Derrick Dooley out at Tennessee too.

  • The next few weeks will be interesting for sure. The rumor board on the main site will be fun to read.

Supposedly Jeff Fisher is a legitimate possibility at Auburn, but its doubtful he leaves the NFL. He has a son who's a walk-on there, and a daughter who is in the normal student body there.

Gruden's name being mentioned for the Tennessee job a lot, but he wants that out clause to be able to leave for the Eagles if Reid gets canned or retires.
