Like the rest of the CFB world, I forgot about Kentucky. Thanks.
    I
Lefty: You really think Freeze takes off after one year? Idk about him leaving (Idk if he'll get a spot I'm saying) after one year in Oxford. Mullen I can see getting out of there depending on what opens up.

Apparently Butch Jones has talked to Kentucky. CBS reported the other day that an SEC team had contacted Tony Dungy, not that I think he would come back.

There is already chatter about bigger schools coming after Freeze. He's recruiting well (for Ole Miss), may land Nkemdiche and some other big name recruits, and he's won same games too. I wouldn't say it's likely that he leaves, but in the South, anything is possible.

  • Thought I'd say something, literally just got a text from a buddy of mine who is a pretty big booster (family) for Illinois. Very good chance Beckman isn't back next year. The money is the big thing, but if they can get it paid for by donations it looks like he may be gone.

Have to think this is an attempt to grab Doeren before someone else grabs him. They should have snagged him last year.

Gotcha back. And I remember reading an article about hugh freeze, he's a Mississippi guy right? Born and raised in Oxford and went to southern Miss. Doubt he leaves. And if he does it won't be after a year.

I'm going to say this in the best way possible. The political landscape in Illinois over this hire will be very...interesting. There was a HUGE fight last time over the coach. Sumlin was the number one target and Illinois (foolishly) thought they had him. They then hired Groce for bball. Why is this a big deal? No Illinois head coach in football or basketball has ever been an African-American. And that is a HUGE deal to certain Chicago policy men, both within the University system and outside. After Shaka turned them down in bball it got pretty tense around here. There is a VERY good possibility that this will be a near "requirement" this time around.

So what's the deal with Beckman? I know they sucked this year but they got a new coach and usually you get a little rope to try to turn things and implement your system and guys ect. Is his attitude just wearing thin with the fanbase? I mean everybody on this board already knows he's a dick but are the Illinois fans starting to figure that out? Anyway with a guy like beckman I think it's better to cut bait too soon then to let the guy stick around and turn your program into Colorado. Speaking of Colorado, John Embree should be added to this list. I have no idea why he isn't going to get canned at CU.

Kent State guy, then. Maybe Taggart at WKU?

The majority of their fans know that they won't ever be a power house in football (except for those who are also Cub fans and thus stupid), but they went from seven wins to two wins this year, and looked worse than they ever had. Many were not happy with Beckman off the bat as he didn't bring most of his coaches with him, the AD made a mess of the process, and he was a defensive minded coach with a bad defensive team in the MAC. He then went and showed, with a semi talented team, how in over his head he was this year.

    They aren't his biggest fans.

Also, from talking to a lot of HS coaches, Beckman is actually well liked downstate, unlike Zook was.

Don't know if Mike Thomas (their new AD, 2nd year) can convince the boosters to help him pay for a new HC out of the MAC from a school in Ohio for the third time in two years (Beckman, Groce, and your possibility of Hazell). They'll want a BCS level assistant or coach. Though Idk if they have a chance to get that realistically.

    MTayl72

  • Everyone's going crazy over willie taggert but I just don't get it. Dude made a huge turn around from year one to year two at WKU but this year WKU has just been average. They won 7 games but finished .500 in the sunbelt.

Maybe, but for some reason I think a team like Auburn may want to give him another year to cool down. Idk why, and I have no real backing its just a gut feeling. I think Petrino is more likely to Tennessee as they are more "needy". Plus the AU faithful love that Malzahn spread offense, all they can dream of is sCam Newton in it.

Supposedly Auburn wants a disciplinarian, which hurts Malzahn's stock a bit. He is the obvious hire though.

Whatever happens, the lockerroom there seems toxic. The new HC will have quite a few headaches. Similar to Muschamp at UF, although probably not as extreme.

    Nope.

Daddy Kiffin is probably going to step down though. He'll hire a big time DC and they'll give him some more years. If he keeps going 8-4 they'll get rid of him in a few seasons. I don't see how that will be physically possible though, because he will have an NFL roster in two years.

Rivals. How long until next mustachioed HC?

I don't know if you care about the smaller jobs, but Western Michigan's seat is vacant (Bill Cubit).
