I hate to use this analogy, but it fits with this ...

This is like having to choose hanging or the gas chamber.

Remind me ... Florida's record in Urb's last year when Mullen was gone. Ironic?

Mullen was there for Alex Smith in Salt Lake and was there for Leak and Tebow in Gainesville. He had a major influence in all three of them.

This. I've said this so many times in the last few months. There is absolutely no way to back up the idea that Meyer > Mullen especially as far as QB development/success goes. As a HC, maybe, but Mullen did beat UM in his first season as MSU. Mullen was there every step of the way for UM's success and as Hamilton said, we saw what happened at UF the first year Mullen was gone. 7-5 aaaaand "retirement".

  • According to Ben Jones, OBrien has confirmed Charlie Fisher as QB coach.

  • Alright i'm a little confused here...

    Per the latest interview....

sneakypete: You have decided to be the offensive coordinator. With no previous head coaching experience, are you worried you are spreading yourself to thin?

"We're in the process of hiring someone, and when we do get that in place then everyone will see that it won't be a huge challenge. I'll be involved in the play-calling, I'll be involved in the design of the offense, but it will work itself out very soon."

Is the Fisher hire what he was referencing?
Does this mean Fisher will be the OC?
Does it mean Fisher is the QB Coach and they are going to find another coach for the OC?
Or is Fisher the QB coach and BOB/Fisher both going to handle the OC duties?

  • Again...why don't we give these guys a fair shake. There still hasn't been a game, or even a practice that would allow us to evaluate performance. The good news is that recruiting seems to be occurring on a positive note.

  • I'm supporting anyone on this staff. BOB will be heavily involved with the offense and Quarterbacks so I'm not worried. On to the Spring Game. I'm experiencing extreme football withdrawals right now with College and the NFL season done.

  • I'm supporting the guy, I just dont know that much about him at all. I didnt see this one coming at all.

Does anyone know how he was as a recruiter at Vanderbilt?

I would assume he is going to be the QB coach and have something to do with "passing coordinating". Helping with the pass game overall while concentrating on quarterbacks.

I think Fisher is a guy that was just waiting for his big opportunity, and now he has it. I think he will be a tireless worker and recruiter, as he will want to prove his worth. This alone makes him better for PSU than Jay was.

Guy is from Allenwood, PA. Likely grew up a PSU fan and watching Paterno. I agree with you about he wanting to prove himself. Perhaps he reached out to BO'B for the job?

  • Some perspective..........BO'B got this job LATE in the hiring/recruiting cycle. It's his FIRST HC job. Give those circumstances, he's going to hire people he's comfortable with and who are AVAILABLE. I'm sure there are a lot of "name" coaches out there who wouldn't listen at this point simply because of the predator and his stain. Just like recruiting, for staff hires as well, it's going to take a few years for that stain to start fading. Coach OB had to put a staff together in virtually no time to save the recruiting class in place. Obviously this guy wasn't his first choice as a QB coach, but he does have a resume' and experience as opposed to the previous QB coach. I'm sure as the first couple of seasons play out and OB gets to know his players, he'll be evaluating his staff as well. Then watch him tweak it going forward. So chill out boyz and girlz and cut him some slack.

Thanks P-dub! Loved the vid but it added to my thirst for some football!! Lol you Maybe the NCAA should look into a Spring Football season from Mid February through July. The Mac, Big East, conference Usa and a few other weak conferences can play during the Spring and the Big TEN, Sec, Pac 10 etc play during the fall. Year round football and everyone is happy! This is tongue in cheek of course.

What was with the long Mark May clip in the video? To rub in his face that he went to Pitt and not Penn State?
I frickin hate that guy. Always talking shit on us.

We can't possible give the guy a fair shake because he doesn't have national championships, super bowl rings, decades long experience as a head coach, or a track record for coaching a dozen hall of fame QB's.

    no

He's a huge upgrade over Jay, first and foremost. But the other plus I see in this hire is that he strikes me as the type of guy that could be at PSU for 10+ years. Godsey is the type that would jump at an OC or HC position after 2 years if he felt it would be a promotion. I'll take stability at the coaching position.
