CHALLENGE:

  • As I stated in another thread, I have been to the Penn State game in Columbus four times and in all of my travels to away games I have never been treated better than by the Ohio State fans. Sure this is a HUGE game but they support their team just as we do…..nothing wrong with that. I challenge every person going to this game on Saturday to approach at least one Ohio State fan, shake their hand and welcome them to Penn State. Ask if they need help with anything or directions. It will make a world of difference to their enjoyment of their trip to Penn State. Let’s be adults and put the HAPPY back in Happy Valley…..

Agree with your point, but by far the best fans I,ve ever been to and I've been to OSU 4 times are the Alabama fans. Fantastic fans, who know their football, and appreciate and respect the other teams fans.

  • Sure thing. As long as they stay quiet, keep to themselves, and refrain from cheering too loudly when they score.

Yes I've heard the same thing about bama fans (never been there). They all seemed to have a good time here last year. There is a lot of mutual respect between Bama and PSU. Last year I went on their board and asked if anyone needed help with anything on their upcoming trip. I was well recieved.

I like this, 63. Excellent idea. Everyone just behave and not act like drunken idiots on Saturday.

  • I have interacted with many different fan bases over the years and many have been wonderful... Iowa, Illini, Alabama have been tremendous. OSU, Florida State have been some of the worst. I know this is not an accurate representation of their entire fan base but it is what you remember

excellent post. i personally think nebraska fans are the best when it comes to fan interaction, and i know that for whatever reason many in our fan bases dislike eachother. that said i agree with your post 100 percent and hope buckeye fans emulate your post

I have dealt with more D-bag fans from OSU in our stadium than any other team, with scUM being a close second. MSU fans treated me great in East Lansing and are the best opposing Big 10 fans I've encountered. The fans at the big outhouse were almost as bad as the ones who traveled here. I won't go to Columbus and have heard far more negative tales than what you've experienced.

Being an OSU fan, who is dating a Michigan fan, who has family who are Michigan State fans, and a godmother who is a PSU Alum, I have to say I have only had one bad experience and it happened to be in Ann Arbor (it was quickly quelled by the girl who I am dating who got in the fans face and said "If he is good enough for me, he is good enough for any Michigan fan and deserves such respect")

I have to say on behalf of the drunken idiots from OSU that rep 2% of our fan base and will make distasteful jokes on your current situation (forgetting that one year ago we were in our own trouble) I will apologize in advance for their actions, but please do not take this out on the rest of the visitors that come to your campus. There are plenty of us that would gladly treat you with the most upstanding respect imaginable when you visit here!

Good luck and I hope it is one hell of a game (with us winning of course lol sorry)!peace

Jcross - thanks for the words. In all fairness, every fan base has this problem. I think with the intensity and popularity of the game nowadays there's just no way around avoiding these kinds of people. Good luck this weekend.

  • Be classy Penn State fans! We can be gracious and LOUD at the same time...and forgiving of any bad behavior on the part of our guests. Three rules:

    1. Only show hospitality to begin with.
    2. Ignore any bad behavior by the OSU fans. (Be the bigger man/woman.)
    3. "May no act of ours bring shame."

At the end of the day, we want to be remembered as gracious in victory, class acts, and the loudest stadium in the land! WE ARE!
