Holy $hit, can you guys be any more butthurt over this?

Geez, people need to grow up. These AA/ND threads have been embarrassing.

I personally dont care that AA chose the Irish. I just cant ever pass up an opportunity to bash ND. Part of that is because two of my best friends are big ND fans so im used to always giving them shit. So I guess it kinda carries over to this board when I see other people bad mouthing ND.

ND is an incredible school and program but It blows me away that people want to play or work for that guy. He must have a totally different personality outside of the games.

While Michigan is my team, I'm also a huge ND fan. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on Brian Kelly.

I played tennis at Grand Valley State University while he was their football coach. The tennis courts were right next to the football field. Every day it was 3 hours of listening to Kelly scream cuss words to his players over the bull horn.megaphone The crazy thing is, the players really did love him.

His demeanor gives outsiders a nasty perception of him because of his vulgarity and how insanely intense he is. But the guy wants to win soooooo bad, and the kids know it, and the competitors on the team love that about him. He is terrifically demanding, but the guy knows his stuff. He cares about those kids very much, and most of the kids care very much about him.

But I predict that he when he leaves ND, it will be because he retires, and not because he gets fired. I think that within 5 years ND will definitely be a stronger program than Wisconson and MSU. From there, the jury is out as to whether he's good enough to get the program to the Elite level of competing for national championships. But if he can get them to be a perennial top 25 team within the next 5 years, that will be a good step for the Irish.

Guys, lets not pretend to guess on whether or not ND will tank this year. They have tanked every year since 1993. The few years that were successful they lost their bowl game. They have won two bowl games in 19 years, the sun bowl and the hawaii bowl. ND will blow it again this year...guaranteed. ND football is soooooooo far past their prime. All you have to do is look back at the fact of history to back up that statement.

Exactly. Other than the fact that they have their own field/stadium, and more than a few hundred people watch their games, they are looking more and more like Pitt every year. I'm 38 years old, and the memory of ND being any good at all is very very faint. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's a real memory anymore.

You do realize that EVERY other program in the country feels this way about our current recruiting class, right?

yeah 2014 is probably the one to worry about. The NCAA isn't exactly swift of foot when it comes to doling out punishments if any are coming (see Miami).

The first sentence obviously explains the second one. But other than blind homer-ism, what makes you think he won't get fired? He'll be lucky to make it past this season with that schedule. I just don't see it.

I don't want to get way off topic, and I'll stop my portion of this caveat after this point. IF PSU were to receive sanctions:
    1. I believe it would be self imposed
    2. I believe it would be delivered ASAP following the Freeh report.

Thats just my opinion for a few reasons. We can discuss it more once the report is released, but if relevant, I heavily doubt it would linger that long.

  • Not sure how someone can be a Michigan fan and also root for ND.. Do you also pull for msu and Ohio state too?

Swift they aren't, but they will certainly know how to time things to make it hurt the most (if they do choose to sanction us). Besides, if we're given really brutal sanctions, are we really to expect the NCAA to not allow our commits to get out of their LOI's?

  • Diddly, you think the university would self impose removal of scholarships? Maybe withdrawing from post season games. And i dont see how they can suspend coaches or players like they did at Ohio state unless something comes out about Lj or vandy or one of the current kids on the team bypassed eligibility infractions (can't think of anyone off the top of my head that would fall in that category)

  • Interesting thought on the self-imposed sanctions. I think it helped OSU some... They should have self-imposed a bowl restriction last year... nobody wanted to go.

You can self impose sanctions for Ethical violations...its just never been done before. I doubt that we would do so for that reason. However, IF an eligibility type violation is revealed in the report AND it occurred in the past 4 years, I think we will choose to self impose. It doesnt matter if the old Admins are gone...statute is 4 yrs. Coaches were gone at both OSU and USC (player was gone at USC as well). We'll have a better idea of what to expect when the report is released.

No one ever said anyone at OSU was smart.

  • I just never heard of a school self imposing loss of scholarships before.. I'm sure the NCAA will try to find some reason to impose that though.. The only things I would think the school would do is put the program on probation and withdrawal from bowl games.. And maybe also take away our big ten titles in 05 and 08 which would be sad bc I have a close connection with that 05 team...

Just because he wants to win soooo bad, doesn't mean he has to act like a jackass on the sidelines. Sorry, not a fan and never have been. I don't think he will last more than five years at ND.

It happens all the time. Schools that know they are going to get nailed always self impose a loss of scholarships.
