Bolden staying put according to CDT

I thought this tweet was funny...

Hey, you guys remember when http://t.co/UVEZqeMQ and Ron Musselman took unconfirmed transfer rumors and reprinted the news as fact?

So IF this is true, I'm glad he's staying. Get his degree at the very least. It's worth a lot.

  • I also hope he's up for a position change. To what I don't know, but he has no future as a QB.

I don't know where else on the field he could play if it can't be at QB. Maybe a WR but that's about it.

  • I wonder if he shopped around and no one was buying?

  • Take his redshirt, try and learn from BOB and Fish and maybe he gets a chance down the road, the physical tools have always been there, he just has a lot of learning to do about the position. (acknowledging the understatement)

Either way, he seems to be a pretty good kid and glad he will get a good degree rather than chasing a football dream that will end after college.

Depends where he was shopping. If he was looking FCS, I'm sure a team would bite. If he was looking MAC, I still think someone would take a chance.

  • If he's not leaving, why not give him a shot at safety and see what happens ?

    BerneseMtDog

  • I saw a post on one of the other sites that he was at the summer workouts yesterday. Maybe he is looking, but may as well keep his scholarship until the right opportunity to transfer arises.

Because he is not a safety. He has never displayed anything remotely resembling the athletism to play another position. He never looks fast, has no idea what to do in the face of contact, and lacks insticts. How that transalates to safety or any other position is beyond me. Heck, how he was ever listed as a duel threat still boggles my mind.

People saying he should try another position, have you ever watched him during a game. What exactly shows you "now there is an athlete" look? He has the same tools Morelli had, would you want to try him at safety?

Glad he paid the $9.95 for the "insider info" to put in the news.

  • In all reality, we don't know for certain what the qb situation is coming from the actual staff that watched these guys compete over those 15 practices..all we really got a chance to actually see was the Spring Game..I don't see a need for Bolden to leave or switch positions. He finally has an actual situation where he can become better at the position from coaches who have a track record of working with and developing good and great qb's. Penn State IS the place to be right now for QB's having the opportunity to work with Fisher and O'Brien...QB depth is a good thing to have as well...we got in this bad position with QB's in part due to a QB transferring. Let's learn from the past

  • To all the people hoping Bolden can play another position; what on earth makes you think he has the athletic ability to play any other position? Have you not seen him run?

  • At this point his scholarship would be more valuable being used on somebody else......The notion of redshirting him is ridiculous. If he is redshirted that is one more year where he gets reps that should be going to Bench and Hack

exactly what I'm saying is what point are we at? we don't know for sure until the depth chart is released by THIS coaching staff..let's say we experience some injuries.. with Bolden out of the picture, would we want to be stuck with a situation where McGregor and Bench are next in line?

I'm fine with Bench or Hack being #2 in 2013. Bench with only a redshirt year and Hack true frosh year I would be more comfortable with than McGregor. We are fine with depth, with or without Bolden. Bolden does not really do much as I'd rather have a true frosh in Bench go in if McGloin/Jones goes down instead of a 39% passer. He is here to get his degree and move on in life.

If this was any other school, this is the player that would get a "medical scholarship" or whatever Saban/Urbs and them pull when a kid is no longer worthy of wasting a scholly on his team. Roster management by Urban Meyer & Nick Saban would be a best seller for slimey recruiting coaches.

So the kid doesn't pan out, lets just toss him on the scrap heap and get him out as fast as we can rather than trying to coach and develop him??? I get what you are saying about scholarships but that sounds more like the UM way than PSU. You can't have convictions just when it is convienient. The kids stays we should do everything we can to develop him. Don't push kids out the door to free up a scholarship.

And as far as the red shirt goes, it would have been better for him to take it his first year and develop a little more, instead we needed him he tried to step up but fell down. If trying to help him get back up means a red shirt then give it to him.

One of theings that makes PSU football what it is, is that the players matter, they are not and should not be just numbers.

    IMHO.

There's a difference between tossing him out and not letting him redshirt in his third year in the program. I agree kicking him out is dumb, but tim never suggested doing that, just saying his scholarship isn't really helping the team at this point. Not letting him redshirt is just roster management. Players get 4 years guaranteed, not 5.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that Tim was saying to kick him out if it came across that way. But I still think we do what we can to try and the kid. He doesnt choose if he red shirts or not and for a qb I think it should almost always happen. They have so much to learn. We don't have to give it to him and I agree, roster management is important but so is standing behind your players. He stepped up and did what he could when he was outmatched. His confidence was shot as a result and now his future in football is probably done. He may never have developed beyond where he is now if he had redshirted, we will never know, but I think we should be doing what we can to try and develop him into a qb. Maybe it works, prob not but maybe. I think this is different than a player who used his redshirt and has finnished his degree and has still not cracked the 2 deep. JMO but if you expect loyalty from the players, you better give it to them.
