I really think this situation is going to cost him his second term, not that it was a given to start with. There is no way he can justify his or the BOT's actions or non-actions to the people of Pennsylvania. Every time either one of them opens their mouths they just harden peoples' resolve. I would not vote for him no matter who he runs against.
How can Joe have been fired for a lack of leadership when he was following policy, AND his superiors who did not have NOT been fired?

I would rather them just be honest and say that they terminated him due to the media firestorm. That I can at least understand (even if I don't agree with it). I just hate seeing this BS be presented to the public as an official statement. It's a whole bunch of nothing and is totally gutless.

Hi all. I decided to share my thoughts with the BOT after their statement yesterday. Here's what I said:
To the Penn State Board of Trustees:
Having read the statement you issued yesterday, and having taken some time to digest it, I must say that I am now more disappointed and angry with you, the "leadership" at Penn State, than ever.
Your statement spoke to "failure of leadership" by Dr. Spanier and Coach Paterno. Let's think for a moment about the leadership that some not named in your statement showed during those horrible days in early November.
1) Where were you, the Board of Trustees, when a voice was needed as events broke in November? As alumni and students we needed you to provide leadership and direction for our university. Since that time, you have only managed to speak at times when you should have remained silent. You left the University and PSU community to fend for itself in those first days, and now you are reopening the wounds and leaving us to fend for ourselves again with this statement. Your actions yesterday have stirred up strong negative sentiment with all of us and thrust a negative view of Penn State back into the local, state and national news. Many of my friends are considering pulling all support for the University until we see meaningful change. I have advised against this to date, but I am rapidly changing my mind. I would hate to see our school suffer, but it is beginning to appear that this may be the only action that will make a difference.
2) If Dr. Spanier and Coach Paterno were at fault for "failure to lead", why was nothing said about Mr. Curley or Mr. Schultz? Unless I am mistaken, Coach Paterno reported the incident to both of these individuals. I also believe that Mr. Schultz was the head of the University Police Force (a sanctioned law enforcement body in Pennsylvania). So exactly how was this NOT reported to the authorities.
3) Who approved the policy that led Coach Paterno to take the 2002 incident up the "chain of command"? Is the Board of Trustees not reviewing University Policy and making it clear to all university employees exactly what should be done in cases like this? That to me is also "failure to lead". Are you not aware that this same policy is what is being taught to our education majors before they head out to teach in our schools? If this is wrong, why haven't you, our "leaders" taken steps to make this right?
4) Why was nothing said about the inaction of Governor Corbett? After all, he seems to have strong opinions that he is willing to share with any who will listen. How can you expect us to believe that the board was not informed of these events when the individual who began the prosecution was sitting on the board at that time? Is this not also "failure to lead"?
5) It appears that the board has various ties to the Second Mile, including contributions, attendance at events, etc. Why were you, the board, unable to discern that there may have been issues with Mr. Sandusky, when it appears that you believe others should have been able to do this?
6) Since when, is a Grand Jury presentment, a document clearly written with a prejudice to allow prosecution, considered "all the evidence needed" to make a decision? I believe the presentment was 26 pages, representing testimony from a grand jury hearing that went on for years. It would seem to me that "all the evidence needed" would be found once a trial occurs.
It has become obvious to me that you, the board, are only concerned about covering your backsides and protecting yourselves from criticism. Is that not "failure to lead"? I'm sorry, but based on your actions of the past several months, I must conclude that you, the Board of Trustees have failed to lead Penn State. I respectfully ask that you all consider, as individuals, the option to step down from your positions on the Board as soon as possible, or to at least decide to leave after your current term expires. This will allow the alumni, students, faculty, and friends of Penn State to begin to return our University closer to the principles and "the core values that have always made Penn State a great university."

My letter to the BOCowards. I have no idea if it makes an impact on the board but I feel much better. I encourage everyone to write their concerns.
Board Members, I recently had an opportunity to read the news release, Report of the Board of Trustees concerning November, 9th decisions. Much to my dismay the release contained no new information that I could glean. The entirety of the report was a rehash of information readily available to most people concerned enough to seek the information. This leads me to have a concern as to why the document was released at this time or anytime.
I have previously written my concerns to the board regarding my opinion that the Penn State Board of Trustees did not handle the November events to the best of the ability that I would expect from such an esteemed group of individuals. As time heals all wounds, such has been the case regarding the press and public opinion regarding Penn State. Recent news that I have read puts Penn State in a positive light. Hence the question, why release this document? What added value to Penn State would it provide?
I see no redeeming value for this document to have been published. The release has reopened wounds that had begun to heal. The press since the release has caused a reliving of the unfortunate events prior to November, a rehash of the boards poor leadership in November, a less than positive response from the Paterno’s, an opportunity for ESPN to provide negative publicity toward Penn State yet again and further agitation of Penn State supporters and alumni.
There are times that the best thing said is nothing. I understand the Board of Trustees motive to attempt to clear their name from the indescribable bungling of November’s events. However, this press release was a step in the wrong direction. I am baffled by the poor decisions and absence of leadership demonstrated by the Penn State Board of Trustees. The actions of November and the continued poor attempts to restore our faith in the board are not achieving the objective. The actions of the board continue to reinforce the alumni opinion that the board members need to step aside for new leadership.
