Blehar on Slaten

  • Says that new evidence coming out will show a link between the BOT, Freeh, and The NCAA.

He actually said that new evidence will come out that reveals "something rotten in Denmark" between the BOT, Freeh, and the NCAA.

I had to look up what 'rotten in Denmark" meant, hahahahaha.

Are there any rumors circulating what this could be? Is it maybe what Zeig was talking about as well?

If you could prove that somehow there was collusion between the three groups (to pin this on Paterno/Football), the sanctions would almost certainly be dropped. Mark Emmert would also lose his job immediately. There is no way the NCAA could withstand this.

I am skeptical of anything that comes from Blehar and/or Ziegler, however. These guys always point to reason and circumstance and that isn't going to clear Penn States name in this mess. Need hard factual evidence.

  • I lived in Copenhagen for 11 months when I was a freshman in high school and don't remember seeing anything rotten.....

  • Hmmm... if this is true and it's factual/strong enough to show collusion this is good news. But, I'm skeptical as well it will be more factual information that no one will listen to.

I take it Blehar was on Slaten today?

    Hope to find a recording...

  • If there is actually credible evidence that suggests collusion, our friends at the 4 letter network will have a feeding frenzy.

  • even if all of this is true, its only going to make penn state look worse. yes, it might absovle joe paterno of some guilt in the public, but how's it going to look that now the BOT is involved?

It will certainly do that for sure, but at the end of the day people should demand the truth. For better or worse and take your lumps that you deserve. The problem is that would be in a criminal court if they interfered in any way and would have little to do with the NCAA. Like someone said above is you have to consider your source and I'll believe it when I see it actually come out. The leaks to the media did smell funny way back when this was all going on so maybe there is something to it.

    It absolutely will not.
In this case it will just be more of the same of "corporate bigwigs being corrupt, etc. etc. SSDD."
That is MUCH better than a sweeping attitude that Penn State has a "crazy culture of football above children."

If it was found tomorrow that 50% of the Board of Trustees at Harvard University were involved in some illegal ponzi scheme that left hundreds of innocent people broke. Yeah, people would be pissed off. But not a single person would think any different of their academic reputation.

Board members that people don't see on TV every day simply aren't synonymous with Universities like coaches are. Especially when you're talking about someone like Joe Paterno. It's just the way it is.

  • I especially liked

    9) Stated that new evidence will come out that reveals "something rotten in Denmark" between the BOT, Freeh, and the NCAA.

    10) Lubrano attempting to get me involved with Special Prosecutor. If so, could provide means to uncover evidence of criminal wrongdoing on the part of Freeh (beyond defamation).

    11) Think this will go the way of the Duke case and the media will end up with egg on their faces.

How great would if be if Freeh could be proven to having done something criminal?

  • I really hope these guys are right, but Blehar has been making massive claims like this for months now, yet all we get are reports that no one reads and that don't have anything you can really sink your teeth into. The time for him to put his money where his mouth is was months ago....

  • disagree. it will only revive the story into national consciousness and create an even bigger scandal. first the coach, then the board. the narrative will be that that the whole institutional participated in the cover up.

    song46

  • I've heard it floated out there that the NCAA was considering outsourcing their investigations and that either Freeh's firm or the firm that bought his shortly after the PSU case was being considered for the contract (that I imagine would be worth many millions per year). I think they might be hinting at certain BOT members, the NCAA, and Freeh somehow worked together related to this plan. Might explain why Freeh went outside of what he was expected to say and read his "summary" as if it were a presentment or inditement. BOT gets to have it confined mostly as a Football / Joe Paterno issue. Freeh gets to look like a tough guy and land a major contract and the NCAA/Emmert gets to look really tough, strike fear into members, and play the hero/punisher role. When it was all over, the NCAA gets Freeh's firm to head investigations and everyone will understand how harsh he is after watching him tear apart PSU.

I have no idea if there is any truth to any of that, but I certainly wouldn't write it off....

    spud358

  • So the NCAA potentially had an "in" with some folks on our board or with Freeh that relayed them specific information to pin this on JoePa and football, meanwhile covering up the deeper issues such as the scoundrels on our BoT covering this up from day one and spinning it around on the football program when all hell broke loose. Seems plausible.

  • If the way this sounds is actually what happens, wouldn't that put us back in the cross-hairs to have our accredidation reviewed and any other factors that could harm the University as a whole? If so, that's no beuno at all!

  • kind of crazy, but this whole thing has been crazy. I do believe Freeh has connections to Frazier and a certain republican politician on the board..... I could be wrong, but I thought Surma and Garbin had connects to Freeh as well. If so, interesting that both of them left the board. Surma's departure was just announced in Feb.

things that make you go hmmmm......

  • While this sounds exciting because it alludes to actual truth in this whole mess, I don't think it is going to help our national reputation in any way. Might not take us back any further, but won't propel us forward either. At minimum, if everyone starts actually believing that the truth is now known about what happened with Sandusky and PSU, that could be the start to the real healing that we've been looking for.

    InfamousOne

  • Folks have been looking for and promising "a smoking gun" for over a year. One may be out there. I hope that one is found, but I can't get excited about another promise.

  • I'm not a believer in these conspiracy theories....and that is all they are at this point. All I want is evidence that shows that Curley/Shultz/Spanier did in fact take the proper steps IF they had knowledge and the ball was dropped beyond them. OR That MM reported nothing substantial, Victim 2 was contacted, and Joe really knew nothing. At this point that's what I hope for...otherwise we look like a pack of desperate conspiracy theorists trying to place blame elsewhere. Even if the thoery is proven correct, it doesnt change the fact that our administrators didnt take the issue seriously when they had a chance...and thats all that matters here..not what happened after

    TheBleedingLion

  • This is what we need. We are not really "healing" now.. Our healing will begin when ALL the truth is out there, like someone mentioned earlier, for better or for worse. All we are really doing right now is that we are concurring with the general perception that JoePa knew, Curley knew, Schults knew, everyone with a Penn State affiliation knew and everyone helped cover it up. We need the truth to come out. See who actually messed up in this whole mess and who helped it get to this stage.. Once all this is out there, then we make the necessary moves to move forward and "heal". But until then....

+1 This ^. Best if all focused their time and efforts on the Freeh report rebuttle and the NCAA's rush to punish without due process. All this other stuff is a side show.

Although I agree the Freeh report rebuttle and NCAA "due process" are the very key issues. Really who cares what OSU fan thinks, right?

However, there are other legitimate crimes committed here. At the very least someone leaked the GJ testimony. As I understand it that is a very serious crime.

As far as BOT, Freeh, and NCAA anyone with any common sense can see something more is going on there. It could be just a rush to get it behind us as quickly as possible to something really sinister, who knows. Hopefully we will find out someday.
