Bill O'Brien press conference updates...

This really does suck, but not sure if this was BOB's exact quote or Sean's take. I got a little glimpse of JoePa there with someone having "a knee" that made me smile. But not to make light of the injury in any way, I feel bad for TJ.

    That's what O'Brien said.

    There was offense last year?

It was the spread HD. Don't you remember?

My favorite part of the whole game was that play where he scrambled for at least 10 seconds and finally found an open man downfield, and right after he completed the pass he runs over and smacks BOB in the @$$.

Then two plays later, scrambles to his right, throws off his back foot on the run, and delivers a strike to a receiver in man coverage for a 25 yd touchdown pass. Sure seems his accuracy is better when on the move. Great arm.

Paul Jones has gotten better every single day. We have a unique relationship because of his sense of humor. He made a lot of strides this spring, he's doing better in school and I really enjoy being around Paul Jones.

    That's it for the presser.

I like that commentary on Jones. If BOB narrows the QB competition to 2 guys I believe it will be McGloin and Jones.

I think you are right...i really don't know what O'Brien meant by his last comment, but it sort of seems like he is cheering for Jones to step up and be our QB.

Who isn't? We know what we've got in the other two and it's not pretty.

I'm not encouraging O'Brien to hand Jones the job without merit. I do think a lot of people are waiting for Jones (or anyone, really) to step up and claim the job as their own.

  • If Matt or rob mess up at all in the game the crowd will be all over them. It was even happening today. Paul jones at least comes in with a clean slate. Jones impressed me a lot. Some of his overthrows may have gone far based on timing and were not balls that could be picked off at least

  • Which is actually extremely important. On your misses you need to throw it where the defender can't get if at all possible.

I'd much rather have him overthrow by ten than to underthrow it by 1.

It depends on the route and who the receiver is. There are routes where it is acceptable to under throw the ball or give the receiver a chance to make a play on the ball. If someone like Derek Moye is running a fly, streak or fade, as a couple examples, I'd much rather have the ball under thrown than over thrown. If someone like Moo Moo is running a streak the QB needs to almost try to over throw him. Under no circumstance should you get a receiver like that in a jump ball situation.

But I do agree that as a general rule you should put the ball where the defender isn't.

Was about to post the same thing. The QB has to know where the best place to miss is based on the route.

Athletically, its not even close. You watch Jones do things that McGloin couldnt do if the other guys ran around in slow motion. Its amazing to me how Jones can move at his size. And the zip on his passes... wow. God gave Jones abilities that Matt just doesnt have and never will.

The TD was off his back foot. It was ridiculous.

I'm still TeamJones and I'm going to bet that Jones is the starting quarterback sometime during the season. I'm hoping he wins it outright before the season... but if not I am very confident he will have it soon afterwards.
