Good points, but where would the money come from? Attendance is way down and we're paying $12 mil/yr in fines until 2016. I think we have made financial leaps in staff pay and facilities in the past 12 months. Once the new scoreboards go in, the Press Box is the only major stadium deal IMO...and thats not a program changer. Not sure what Lasch facilities remain to significantly improve. I'd lean toward staff compensation being our wisest 'investment' during the next few years.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Few reasons why I think obrien stays at least next year, and also why I'd be extremely disappointed if he left.
After getting hired, he stressed loyalty and "seeing things through" in ref to coaching with the pats while psu commits were wavering
When sanctions were handed down, he sold the team on why it was important to stay and that the easy way out isn't always the best route.
Always talks about how the kids on the team are special and how academics and graduating players are a big deal to him and psu being one of the few schools that value that more than wins
if he takes his own advice, he'll be back for a few years and hopefully give his best shot when the sanctions are levied. The nfl will always be there and I'm not sure there are many schools he'd want to coach at over psu.

Good points.
NFL has practically zero loyalty outside of organizations like the Pats/Steelers. Does he want to be secure for a long while and make money (he better get raised to 3m+), or go to the NFL to prob. some crappy team that will take 2-3 years to get on the right track? He is an aggressive guy, so I am not sure.

What are you talking about guy? There was a clause in his contract to extend in the event of sanctions...how wasn't this the job he signed up for? That aside, it would be a punk move to convince kids to stay and recruits like Hack to come and then bail. Actually, punk move is an understatement...but I think he is a high character guy and is refusing to address the question as a calculated move for positive PR / contract leverage / etc. reasons. All things considered, if he left after this year, I'd have more respect (by a long shot) for Lane Kiffin.
