  • O'Brien says he can't give an update on Mauti's injury. "I don't know the diagnosis."

O'Brien getting emotional when talking about Mauti. And a little emotional when asked a followup.

"When I know what it is, I'll tell you guys."

  • "When a guy that's a leader on your team goes down like that, I think it was a good response (by the team). ... They knew what they had to do, and offensively we finally got it going in the second quarter."

  • After injury, O'Brien said he didn't say much when he gathered team on the field. "I just wanted us to get going."

  • "It's just a very special group of guys to coach. ... I think that bodes well for the future of Penn State football."

  • "When I first saw (McGloin), I knew we had a competitive kid and I knew football was important to him. You have to have those traits to be a successful quarterback. In my opinion, you have to have a brain that can work fast, be competitive and have a desire to win. And he has that. ... Charlie worked a lot with his technique and you have to give Charlie credit and obviously Matt."

  • On Robinson and McGloin:

"When you work that much in the offseason, and you're talking about different situations that may come up ... I think that they worked a lot together along with the other receivers. Allen is clearly the leading receiver for us and it's a nice combination with him and Matt."

    Robinson again:

"Every guy's a little bit different and he's a very unique athlete. ... Good hand-eye coordination, ability to jump, to change direction on his routes. Developing under Stan Hixon has really helped him."

  • "It's hard anytime you lose a guy like Malcolm (Willis), but those guys were resilient and tough. Maybe there was a bad play here or there but they didn't let it become a bad day."

    On sideline interference penalty:

"That's on me. I was in the white and the guy ran into me."

  • O'Brien asked if he's going to stay next year.

"That's not something I think about. I think about Wisconsin. This football team and this senior class. ... I'm the head football coach at Penn State and I love coaching here and I can't wait to get back on Monday and get to work on Wisconsin."

  • On Zwinak and fumbling:

"We do a lot of different drills but at the end of the day the player has to do it. I think he'll improve. That was a bad fumble he had today and he knows it."

    On the atmosphere:

"I thought it was good. I didn't know what to expect. We have great fans here and this team really appreciates it. I thought the fans were really good today. And I hope they're phenomenal next week."

A simple, "yes" would have been all it took.
This subject is now going to grow out of control.

He has said the same thing in pretty much every question regarding his future here. Its a straight canned answer.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Yeah that answer doesn't read real well. It's likely no big deal though.

  • Honestly, I still don't care what BOB says. Because what he says doesn't matter. Are assurances really going to keep people from talking or bothering him about it? No.

  • @CoryGiger: O'Brien on his future: "You guys gave legs to there's no story there. There's no story there."

I was hoping he would say he has ZERO interest in any other jobs and is focused on restoring the roar at PSU.

  • One reason I believe he is 100% PSU next year is that if he was going to leave, he is a good enough man that he would at least let his commits like Hack and AB know so they can rethink their recruitment. Hack and AB are still all PSU obviously in articles and tweets, etc.

    11psu11

  • How would he tell anyone he is leaving when he prob hasn't talked to any NFL NCAA teams ?

If he was thinking about leaving he wouldn't tell them before he signed on somewhere else. He wouldn't screw his own recruiting class if something fell through.

Am I the only one that doesn't like that response? He dodged the question but also only made reference to the the senior class. I am obviously not saying the world is over and he is definitely leaving but I would much rather have heard the "fuck no I'm not leaving! Next question!"

  • He seems determined to say that "it's a story that has no legs" and kind of chastise us in the media for making something of it, but at the same time he absolutely refuses to say one way or the other if he'll be back next year.

It will be interesting to ask him the same question this time next week, when there aren't any more games to look ahead to.
