A pretty mild interview compared to this morning. Was asked how he is going about changing the national perception of PSU and answered that starting with a great staff and putting wins on the board helps. Called Belichick the best coach in the history of the NFL and took away lots of things from being under him. Also reminisced about Beano and said he would be missed. Nothing really notable other than he kept on stressing that this is a 'new Penn State'.

It was nothing new than anything else out there regarding to the rough start and the turn around. You have heard the same questions asked and the same theme of the answer came out. Only different question - how will you remember Beano Cook?

BOB is getting alot of press, positive press right now. There are certainly some jealous egos from outside the state, especially one in the capital of Ohio.

Maybe because ESPN has learned that no one outside of Ohio likes the Buckeyes. I have never met an OSU fan in my day to day life. I have met lots of Michigan fans in SE PA, but no OSU fans. Most people like Michigan because they hate OSU. There is an arrogance in that fan base that just transcends logic and reason. Now that I said this, I expect some trolls to come out from under the bridge.

I actually see quite a few people supporting the Buckeyes in the Harrisburg, PA area. It's sickening but it is what it is. All of my encounters have been friendly, even after the scandal.

  • Speaking of positive press, anyone else notice how BTN is practically gushing over BOB and McGloin, and positively talking about Penn State? I can't believe these same guys were ripping Penn State apart not that long ago.

  • Sorry if this was posted elsewhere but it also appeared in the local paper down here in Fla. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it.

I really like OB and what he's been doing. I also understand that he feels he has to stress this is a "new Penn State" because of the press. It still bothers me though that the press seems to be implying that all that is good at PSU is because of him and that there has been this huge turnaround from a culturally bankrupt, losing program into a model, winning program. That is horseshit. The positive aspects of PSU were there a year ago and the team was 8-0 when the Sandusky/2nd Mile Scandal broke. BOB has definitely done great things, many new. And I'll support him vehemently. Leave it to the media though to twist another narrative though.

FWIW, Texas fans are the same way with the arrogance, although they seem to be everywhere. They're like cockroaches: you smash one and find four more the next day.

Are they actually OSU fans though or just people that dislike PSU given the number of PSU fans in the area and accordingly decide to root for our rival?

We must run with different crowds. I've lived most of my life near Harrisburg and haven't met many OSU fans. There are plenty of Domers and a handful of Pitt fans, but the area is dominated by Penn Staters.

  • BOB was interviewed on Sirius College Sports today with Jack Arute also. I wasnt able to listen to it though.

It's not like it's 50/50 PSU and OSU.

I'd say the Harrisburg, PA area is probably 70% PSU, 20% ND, and 10% other schools but I see mostly OSU fans. I know in my neighborhood alone, there's at least half a dozen OSU fans, the three that I've spoke to aren't even alums, just fans of the program.

I took it more as he turned around what was a decimated team; losing players and just getting beat on by the entire world. I haven't interpreted it as turning around PSU from years past, but from the scandal and sanctions. Everyone expected a beat down team, lots of losses, etc.

That's just how I take it... I'll rewatch what they were saying and see if I can't pick up what you see...

  • In Indiana, I met 2 Ohio State fans during my time there, 20 so years. 1 played for them.

There is a good number of Michigan fans. But, I know of more Penn State fans than Ohio State in northwest, Indiana.

When I think of Notre Dame, and even Michigan to a degree. I think of national fan bases, but not so much Ohio.

The vast majority of their fan base is just people in Ohio. Penn State's is mixed between PA, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, ect. The Penn State program is just worth so much $$. The media pushed a story to make $$, but they realize that they can't kill the program. The NCAA knows this too.

I was in Austin after a hunting trip and we stopped to see a game. I went in decked out in full PSU gear. All interactions were positive and got lots of we are's from Texas fans as we passed by. Plus the women were HOT!!

Well of course they were, they're Texans. We grow them right down there.

And I promise you if you were wearing OU gear the reaction would've been vastly different. You also didn't ask them about how great their program or fanbase is. They're so obnoxiously arrogant it makes me sick I can't wait to make the bandwagon Cows leave the stadium in the 4th quarter as the Scooner rides often. It'll be a fun Saturday.
