Biggest disappointment outside of the play...Stupar

  • I hope sits the whole NEB game at least. BS cheap shot move.

Stupid play but if a stupid play caused a player to sit we would not have an offense. He got penalty we survived move on we need stupor and he has done much more good then bad

  • I've never met Stupar, but I'm willing to bet he is a great guy. That was a heat of the moment decision and one I guarantee he wishes he had back (he would regret it even if they didn't call the penalty). I'm not saying what he did was okay, so don't misinterpret this, but I'm willing to forgive him.

  • I'm not defending him, but honestly, there are a lot worse things that happen throughout a game. If the ref wasn't right there we would never have known about it. It wasn't THAT bad...but definitely a penalty.

  • I didn't actually catch what happened on the replay?

And I'm still pissed at Sukay for head hunting.

  • He gently kicked an offensive lineman's knee (the knee with a brace). It was when getting up from a pile. The fact that he had a knee brace makes it sound very bad, but you seem to know football appoo, so you are likely aware that many linemen wear knee braces these days even if okay (precaution). Therefore, don't read too much into the brace. The guy didn't react much, so not like Stupar really wanted to hurt him, but obviously still a penalty.

Receiver lowered his head. That's on the offensive player. That's not head hunting. That's lowering your pad level to make a tackle. Watch the replay.

that kind of stuff happens in the pile, as guys want to get under the skin of opposing players, but I know for a fact that we coach our players to not do that crap. I'm sure he'll be doing some extra laps in practice.

One thing I've noticed this year is that the personal fouls seem to have increased. IMO, that's a discipline issue.

I watched it several times, He took direct aim at the runners head and launched himself at the head. His aim was to injure, That was pretty clear, and if I was his coach he'd be taken down to the scout team.

Of course, considering his play on the field, he should be benched anyway.

  • IMO it's a football issue, and it trickles all the way down to the youth levels. Referee's are being instructed to clean things up, it goes hand in hand with player safety upgrades. Good move for the game and it's future imo.

Agree. It was a poor decision and he was penalized for it. It wasn't much more than a love tap. Any type of suspension would be over kill.

  • Hello...you play to win the game...it is football..some times we need to be bullies..every watch ray lewis or james harrison play? They are bad asses that hurt people, but they win and are arguably the two best defenders in the league.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

    paupacklion

  • I completely disagree. If a ball carrier lowers his head for any reason after a defender is in tackling mode, that defender is in no way responsible for a helmet to helmet collision. We're talking about milliseconds here and 250 lb bodies already in motion.

  • Not justifying Stupar's actions, was a dumb act. However, some of you guys are amazing. Ever been involved in a football game? How about one that frustrates you to point of challenging your composure? Yep, should not have occurred, but It happens....way back once upon a time when Fred, Barney, and I played, I was kicked out of a game. I was not proud and embarrassed, and was harder on myself than coaches were. I'm 100% certain that Stupar will pay a price that most here will have no idea about.

I've got no issue with Sukay going for the knockout. I'm an old timer, but that is what safeties are supposed to do. Also, how does a player account for ball carrier lowering his head? 98% of time if you attempt hitting a guy in the chest, you will go head to head.

  • You can't justify it and at the least he doesn't start in two weeks...maybe he misses a quarter. Great guys do dumb things, but they also should pay the price.

When a ball carrier is running with the ball, you can hit him anywhere you want. Great hit by Sukay. If you don't want hit in the head, stay in the pocket where that contact is illegal. You head downfield, you belong to the defense now.

Its not head hunting as he wasn't a defenseless player. Once he tucked and started running he's fair game.

Justify what? I said it was a dumb move. Doesn;t start in two weeks? Really? Please justify that.

Joe ran length of field and grabbed a ref once, and he was on sideline at beginning of next game.

How about a guy who spears or commits a flagrant facemask penalty, or a late hit out of bounds? Those fouls are more dangerous than what Stupar's "kick" was. Unsportsmanlike? Yes, but very much out of character for the kid, so unless BT hands something down, it should be handled internally without consideration for what you or I think. Frankly, that's exactly what will happen.

Exactly what I thought when the commentators where making a big fuss about it.

  • This is so simple as to be trivial.

If a dude runs the ball, the DB is taught, rightly so, to lower his pads AND TACKLE THE BALLCARRIER.

Exactly what is the problem here?

Becuase the runner also lowered his pads? And they collided? C'mon guys, buy a clue. This happens at all levels of football, from Pee Wee up.

The runner is not a "defenseless" runner.

Should Mrob have received a flag for ending the Minnie DBs career ON EXACTLY THE SAME PLAY!!??

Or, even better, should the Minnie DB have received a flag? Because he was the DB? And hit the QB helmet to helmet?

Please, dont' listen to the brain-dead commentators, because they are, well, brain-dead.

  • I've known Stupar since 6th grade. He's a good kid, just got a little worked up. Doesn't make it ok, but we seem to be pretty holier than thou when it comes to everything.lol

This hurts me to say as a former linebacker, but that play imediately struck me as dirty. He made no attempt to actually make a tackle. He threw his shoulder directly into his head, never extending his arms to wrap up the QB. I was surprised there was no flag.

    Enissuit

  • IMO, there's a huge difference between a personal foul called during a play and one after the whistle blows. It's nearly impossible to determine intent at live speed and it's unlikely that most reasonable people would intentional initiate helmet to helmet contact. The tackler would be putting himself at just as much risk as the ball carrier.

With regard to the Stupar play, I didn't see it, but from what I've read here, I agree with LaJolla. At what point do we as a society stop making excuses for bad behavior. "Much worse goes on." "He was just frustrated." Isn't that EXACTLY what Meyer said when Brandon Spikes was caught gouging an opponent's eyes a few years ago? The play was OVER. It was PREMEDITATED. There is no excuse. Just because no-one got hurt, he did something that could have caused an injury that had nothing to do with the game. The intent should be punished not the result. It's like shooting at someone but missing. Both are equally malicious, one just has a worse outcome. Both should be punished equally.
