Big weekend for Quin Blanding

  • It was a big weekend for 2014 Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside safety Quin Blanding. The good news kept coming on Monday as the five-star prospect landed offer No. 16.

  • Seems like a lot of the other sites try and tailor their questions around the school/program they are writing for. I honestly don't see Sean and his staff doing that when they interview prospects but maybe I have my blinders on.

I know it's extremely early but any legit shot here?

  • New staff is being proactive and working two classes at once. You wouldn't have seen this with the last staff.

It seems like London has taken over Virginia unless it is a d-lineman then it seems LJ is still the point man

I think it depends which part of VA - LJ probably still has northern VA, especially around the DC area. I believe that Kenney had the bulk of the state of VA.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

This is nonsense -- of course the last staff worked 2 classes at once and you'd see underclassmen visiting for games and stuff like that. The big difference is that now written offers can't be sent out until August before a kid's last year, so coaches can sprinkle verbal offers around like confetti so you hear about them more -- I'm not even sure the last staff would have been allowed to send a written offer out this early.

Let's see this staff make a verbal offer to a kid in 8th grade like Joe did with DWill, and then you can talk about this staff being as proactive as the last one.

But verbal offers could always have been put out this early with the old staff as well.

lol that is anything but nonsense...this staff has put in 25x more effort into recruiting this class and future ones than the previous staff.

No, its not. The new staff would move onto the next class when the current class was done. It didn't do that good of job balancing the act of doing two classes. You have seen more contact with the raising juniors this year than you have in a long, long while.

When Sean is writing for the PSU site, it seems to me that he tends to ask at least a question regarding their interest in PSU, but that's not the overall focus most of the time (that's JMO from the comments the kids give, since we don't see/hear what questions Sean actually ask).

Regarding the old staff and getting on kids early...yes, they did recruit kids early. Off the top of my head, I believe they were on James Ross early. They were some of the first ones to get Wyatt Shallman into recruiting, and they were the first ones to send a recruiting letter to the 2015 QB at Cass Tech in Michigan (Jairu Campbell, I believe).

The problem is - it rarely seemed to pay off. For whatever reason, the coaches spotted kids early, but could never develop a cache with the prospects because of it. We always fell off towards the end, it seems. I can guarantee it will be different with this staff. These coaches seem to be very prudent about who they're offering scholarships to, but at the same time they're still developing relationships with HS's and younger prospects.

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

The old staff would certainly keep track of underclassmen, but they would not actively recruit them until the new cycle began. Offers were very rare.

The new staff is doing both of these things frequently. My guess is we'll have 20+ offers out to 2014 kids before the season starts, and we'll recruit them like they were in the 2013 cycle.

    ^^ This ^^

I'm not sure how hard they "recruited" them, but the old staff often used the B/W game to get as many kids on campus from the NEXT cycle as possible.

Continuing off of you and 42...there was often 1 solid recruiting weekend for underclassmen during the season

Yep. This staff appears to be much more "active" in recruiting the next cycle kids, but it's disingenuous to say, or imply that, the previous staff ignored the kids from the next recruiting class.

  • wasn't on this site last year, but we seem to be trying to get into contact some serious talent in the underclass, great to see, and can only help with recruiting down the line
