How? Didn't we win the B1G regular season championship? I saw us lose to MSU in semis of the B1G tournament, but that shouldn't have been enough to knock us out of the tournament altogether.

That's ridiculous. Any explanation given as I why? Who'd they take ahead of us?

Nope Michigan made it in after finishing 10-9-1. We finished 9-5-3.

  • Straight from the B10 network website with no mention of Michigan record "A late season surge propelled Michigan into the tournament, as the Wolverines welcome Niagara to Ann Arbor, Mich., in their first-round matchup on Thursday. The selection marks Michigan’s fifth NCAA Championship appearance."

Of course NW, MSU, and Indiana's record are all highlighted but not Michigan!

  • Such a crime!

In case anyone was wondering... PSU and Michigan tied in their head-to-head in Ann Arbor

That would definitely set off some bells considering they are #2 and already beat #1 Stanford

  • I've resisted it long enough. Count me in the conspiracy crowd at this point. This has all become too blatant to be ignored or passed off as paranoia. How many times must we be forced to say, "These kids deserve better"? Absolutely shameless.

I agree with what you wrote with one exception - referring to it as a conspiracy theory minimizes it to something others think is far-fetched. It's far from that at this point. It's reality. PSU is getting screwed over left and right.

    Explanation?

After further review of all of the play...the 'call' stands. That is all

  • no conspiracy....our rpi was really low..53

    MSU won tourney
    Indiana..17 rpi (beat us)
Michigan 27 rpi (match was a draw)
Northwestern 41 rpi (our only good win from what I can tell)

The bottom line is we didn't deserve it in this case. The Big Ten teams finished all on top of one another in the standings. OOC matters.

  • Not taking anything away from the boys, I know a few on the team, but the conference title thing is a bit misleading. Yes they won it, but if you look at their schedule it doesn't exactly pop out at you. They won 1 games against good team all year (NW). This is one of the most important stats the committee looks at. And believe it or not, they LOVE RPI. So an RPI of 53 doesn't help their cause either. It's a real shame.

If they pulled out just one more win against a good team (Mich, WVU) or even holding out for a tie against Indiana, they might have been in. An awful loss to Lehigh and that tie against OSU doesn't help either.

That makes sense. I just put the pitchfork down and the torch has been extinguished.

It's not a surprise. Our RPI wasn't very good.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the initial headline and was shocked. Explanation makes sense though. Appreciated.

  • The bottom line is that unless a Penn State team is an automatic NCAA qualifier they can be easily be passed over because these sports are subjective selections. A committee can pick whatever schools they want without giving any explanation. The bias against our teams will be more easy and blatant with non-revenue sports than football or basketball. People decry March Madness snubs for about a day in the media. Do you think anyone would ever gripe about soccer or field hockey? This athletic department will need to win conference post-season titles to avoid leaving it up to an NCAA who has shown they will do PSU no favors whatsoever.

  • While its a shame that the team was left out after winning the regular season title, you can't leave it up to the committee if you are on the fence. Win the tournament and you are in. Usually, the BIG regular season winner should gain an automatic, but ...

the loss to a horrid Lehigh team and the overtime draw with a bad Ohio State squad didn't help the cause. Win against Lehigh and they are probably in.

  • I called the NCAA to ask about this, simple explanation really...you see, the 4-year postseason football ban didn't specify American or European Football and the committee played it safe and ruled us ineligible. It was however, even sent up for further review, but there was insufficient evidence to overturn the original ruling. There's no conspiracy here, please move on....
