The 7 non-FB Catholic Schools might legally have the voting majority to dissolve the conference. Save them the exit fee.... .

According to the NY Post, the basketball only schools will be splitting from the rest of the conference today

BSU and SDSU needs to wake up and get the hell out of dodge to the MWC. It's probably better competition anyways, and the access to the "Major" bowl is the same as the Big East after next year.

Agree. Now that Cuse, Pitt, Louisville, ND and WVU are gone, only UConn gives the conference some sizzle in terms of basketball. Memphis would as well, but that still doesn't replace what has left.

The power play here is that the 7 Catholic schools may have the votes to literally dissolve the conference. This would mean no exit fee for the Cath schools, no waiting time, ... and their smartest play. The schools waiting to join would have to stay in their old conferences, it would seem. This could be the literal death of the Big East.

I can see a merger of some sorts - Louisville, UConn, Cincinnati all going there with South Florida and ECU.
Once the BIG takes UVA and UNC (my two guesses - not buying Ga. Tech), the flood gates open.

The problem is, as you mention, the most likely destination (the Big Ten) only has two more spots, and I don't think they want to use them on two NC schools. I could see UNC being stupid and sticking with the sinking ship. I could also see the Big Ten saying "F it, we are just going to dominate the east coast markets" and add UVA, UNC, Duke, GT, Cuse and Miami to get to 20. But right now I think the strategy is to hope to create enough chaos that the Big XII and SEC eat away at the conference first in hopes that ND comes calling (highly unlikely, IMO).

there is no doubt that the "Catholic" BB schools are going to be shut out of power ( lose the voting majority to FB schools). Their best bet is to get out as soon as they can to avoid the huge "Buy OUT" when the FB schools take over power.
The real question will be how the money that is currently in the bank gets split up.
It may mean that the only school to pay the exit fee will be WVU, and my money is on them fighting it.

Yeah, I think that is a big point. Rutgers, Louisville, Pitt and Cuse probably will not have to pay a dime. Sucks to be Cincy, USF and UConn.

I agree about going to 20. Four super-conferences of 16 teams would represent only 64 teams and would leave out several current BCS conference teams. The more teams, that believe they belong, left out of the new model, the greater the risk of future lawsuits.
Each super-conference could be divided into two divisions, each of which would play a round robin schedule and not play anyone in the other division until the conference championship game.
