Belton built for the job

Silas Redd's departure created a big opportunity for one of Penn State's most intriguing offensive players, running back Bill Belton.

  • I'm excited for Belton. Working full-time with the RB's this offseason means he'll have more experience. The coaches and Zordich are absolutely right - he's built like a RB and he's as elusive as anything. Belton moves so well, and I'm pumped to see him in action. Would not be surprised to see him make a big impact behind what should be an improved OL.

People talk about Lynch and how he's the future at the position. While he certainly has the look of an impact player, we still have 3 years left of Belton at the position.

  • Pretty stoked about Bill being our RB. By the sounds of it, it seems like he has some great awareness and elusiveness that we saw on his high school film a few years back. Those are extremely important traits for a RB. I'm really curious to see how he performs in this new offense and see what he can do at the position.

  • Coaches last year pretty much wasted a whole season of eligibility for Belton.

  • Sounds like his high school elusive highlight film made its way to college. I hope he has a great year.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

  • Like I've said before, Redd is probably the better overall RB but IMO Belton is the better RB for BOB's system.

he was a big reason why we beat OSU, and for that I am grateful!!

  • I'm really excited to see what Belton can bring to the offense. However, and call me old school, I really hope we get either Dukes or Zwinak in the fold. I love seeing big backs get in there and beat down a defense. If we can open some holes for those guys, Dukes especially, that's 5-6 avg easy!!!

I like Quarterbacks...they taste good-either LaVar Arrington, Courtney Brown, Tamba Hali, Michael Haynes, Jared Odrick, Aaron Maybin, etc...

  • Good article, Jeff! I never thought of Belton as a receiver, but he definitely has the look of a running back. It hurt to lose Redd but I think we'll be ok at running back----maybe more than ok!

  • Can't wait to see more of Belton, I think he's going to be one of the greats from Penn State. I just keep envisioning the trick pass he'll be throwing to the TE on 3rd and goal for a TD

This is the one thing that people seem to forget and I have not seen in any posts or articles. Belton was practicing both WR and RB last year. The old coaching staff used him for depth at the position they felt they needed him the most. He was a RB in the beginning of last season. He was with the RBs during pregame in the 1st couple of games. They felt they needed him at RB because of Green. Drake had another setback so he got shifted to WR and started to get PT.
