    Mays Landing (N.J.) Oakcrest linebacker Brandon Bell added a big scholarship to his list on Monday, as Penn State became the 12th school to come through with an offer.

  • I thought Vanderlinden staying on would make signing Linebackers one of the easier positions to lock down, yet it seems like a lot of the top rated LBers on PSU's board have comitted to other programs. Is it just the normal "we can't get ever guy we want" phenonomen or is there some other chatter out there?

  • Seems like a great kid. At first I was worried by the lack of offers at the LB position, but then I smacked some sense into myself and realized that it is only May. Love that all the new offers are coming out to great kids that will build more diversity in the linebacker position at Penn State.

    Anzalone, Bell, Benton, Grace, Stevenson, Deeb, Issah, Brown are all available. Trey Johnson will visit. I think we'll be fine at LB.

    Benton is a steal of a deal - I think his video is up there with any of the best LBers out there this year.

    EDIT - Plus you throw in guys like Delton Williams and Delando Johnson who could grow into LBs. Plenty of legit options out there.

    The last 3 years we have brought in Wartman, Kline, Fortt, Hull and Bars. Only Fortt is listed as a 4* on this site. Not sure why but we have been struggling to bring in highly ranked LBs. Maybe this year will change that. You would think we have a lot to sell. 5 LBS in 3 years should indicate that the depth chart is favorable plus we are Linebacker U!!

    Let's be honest though. PSU rarely brings in 5* LBs. I think what has made us into LBU is not the ability to recruit the star kids but the ability to find the TRUE talent regardless of ranking and develop that talent into NFL caliber players. Therefore, LB is the position with this team that I least care about star ranking. IMO, if Vandy likes a kid then he is a 5*.

    Hull was a five star on another site and VERY highly thought of. Kline was no slouch and they loved Wartman. They've been getting guys they want. This year is a bit unique in my opinion, for a variety of reasons.

    Hull & Fortt were both blue chips, Bowman was, Connor was, Bani was, Carson was, Mauti was, Hodges was, and so was Hayes.... Wartman was highly thought of as you said. I think we are doing OK.

    Curious why you think this year is different?

    Give me a combo of Benton, Deeb, Stevenson, Anzalone, Bell, Brown, & that PA offer and I say we did ok

  • This year is different IMO because it seems like there a bunch of good, but not great options out there. You probably wouldn't take any of the kids were seriously looking at over the names you mentioned (outside of Anzalone assuming his new bulk translates into more physical play, Benton we don't know enough about yet, but definitely not Deeb/Brown/Bell, probably not Isaah). Anyway, I just think it's a weird year in terms of linebacker talent that we're in the running for, just a fluke situation.
