Names will help us old timers. So many numbers associated with names now it takes me longer to get them all down. Thaat and fish oil...

Wow, I didn't think this was true so I googled it and found this. I'm actually shocked. Didn't he say when he was hired that he liked the simple no name uniforms? I like our tradition and you might say it's "just a uniform", but it represents something good that Penn State has always stood for; team first.

I hope PSU does not decide to go through with this. Smh.

Honestly I think this may help with recruiting today's generation. He has a tough enough road to hoe with the sanctions. If new uniforms gives up a little more "swag" with the recruits then we have to do it. I thought it would never be done but when they pulled the statue down and vacated 11 years worth of wins anything is on the table. One more way for them to get back at Joe unfortunately.

O'Brien also told the parents that he has talked to Nike about changing Penn State's plain blue and white uniforms, a staple of the program for decades under former coach Joe Paterno. He also said he's looking to put names on the back of the jerseys.

"It might be easier said than done (for this season)," he said. "I'm not sure we can get it done this year."

Just saw it and hate it.
Those Nebraska unis are pretty wild, though.

Devils avocate here--Does this show that we are caving into the NCAA more and more? Does having your name on the back of a jersey mean that much when deciding in a school that you are to love?? Uniforms??? And people said the statue was trivial...Does this show future recruits that we are not true to our word that this wasnt a PSU football problem--Penn State is no names-black shoes-blue and white--PERIOD! UNITY-not individual names!! Yes I am older than most-43yrs old

As a Yankee fan, names on the back of a uniform are not my thing to begin with. It was one of the unique aspects of Penn State's uniform that made me love it before I was ever even remotely connected to the school. But that's just how I feel. I understand that people think new and flashy will help recruiting. Both sides can make valid arguments.

But the problem is that it will be opening up another issue that will be divisive at a time when we need to be 100% in lock step with each other. It will drive another wedge between the pro and anti Paterno factions. It's just the wrong time right now. Maybe revisit it before next season when the temperature might be different.

Alternate or Nike "pro combat" uniforms yes. Names on the jerseys no. We'll have to come up with creative ways too attract kids for the next few years.

keep the traditionals and add pro combat for the big games (OSU Nebraska, etc) i think that would be best for everyone..
