BIG or ACC?

  • Nothing to apologize for...they are what they are....Just wondering how in the world can they get mad that others in the BIG don't come to their defense, when those that do treat them as a fellow conference member are attacked to no end....Might want to look in the mirror a little before lashing out....a lot of these same people were basking in the glow of tOSU's sanctions and then get miffed when the tools from tOSU site come give it back to them....I've tried to carry on conversations here for a few weeks, not one of them ended in a civil manner because some on here just can't seem to let a good conversation take place before they start stirring it up....No big deal, I was a fan of PSU and JoePa, but I can get over that....you don't need any "outsiders" pulling for you to get through all this, I think they prefer feeling like the victim, so be it......good luck

    Can you quit playing the victim in every post? Either leave, or go back to a real conversation. Obviously this is only stirring the pot, so what's really the point?

    It's not a knock on PSU, just sayin, the tv deal is not going anywhere, so it wouldn't matter if Mich St, Wisconsin, PSU etc left...the deal is still in place, and whoever replaced the leaving team would get a big pay raise from their current deal.... I personally would love to see Kansas and KSU join...one is a football school, one is a BBall school....and they would both jump at the chance to get out of the Big 12 I believe. The BIG isn't going anywhere, and if one more raid happens, the Big12 and Big East will be gone....Big East is pretty much gone now....as evidence by the new BCS talks not including them automatically..

    This current contract would still be the same, but when it comes time to renew the contract won't be worth as much when you take out Philly and replace it with Kansas City and the KS television markets.

    What you're proposing with taking out Wisconsin as well would also hurt the TV contract's worth because that would remove Milwaukee's market as well. Not a huge loss, but something to be considered.

    I'm not playing a victim...my life won't miss a beat without supporting PSU and it's program....just not sure what exactly a couple of your posters want...they bitch at those that flame and then bitch at those that don't....I guess they should create their own board that only they can post on....And if standing up to myself means I'm playing a victim, then that's your problem, as I don't consider myself a victim, I consider myself a CFB fan, and up until tonight pulled for PSU....I still will not become one that comes over here to show joy in your demise, but I surely won't defend you on the Bucknuts board as I did, up until tonight....

    1. Big network
    2. Wrestling
    3. Hockey

    We wouldn't have Cael as our coach , he would be long gone,the Acc don't even have hockey plus BIG is one of best Conf. in the country when it's comes to hockey,so watch what you wish for.

    He is nothing more than a drama queen that thinks he knows what is best for PSU. I too thought he was gone for good as well. Too bad.

    As for defending PSU on numbnuts board. Who cares? There is no difference between one and none defending us on the board of degenerates.

    I can't stand that it's a topic constantly on here either. Make one damn thread complaining about refs. But you're the one sitting here calling everyone out and continuously doing it when it's going nowhere. If you want to know what the posters want, ask them directly and stop giving backhanded compliments or getting so defensive.

    And you are playing the victim. You're still playing it in this post. Give me a break. "I have no idea what these posters want, they just bitch at me, blah blah blah." That's called playing the victim.

    I've been trying to stay out of this discussion, but this is crazy talk. Do you subscribe to the PAC 12 network or the Texas Longhorns network? Advertising money and revenue is directly related to the number of viewers. Without any direct connection to the Big 10, who is going to subscribe to the Big Ten Network?

    Well, very few cable or satellite companies offer the BIG as a stand alone channel....it is in a package with other sports channels, thus there are many subscribed to it now that don't necessarily watch it...Hell, I don't watch it other than a few games a year...but I pay for it, same as my neighbor that went to UNC and is a tarheel fan...no connection whatsoever, but he pays for it...

    Understood, but for every contract negotiation, your cable provider will try to lower the fee's it pays. The Big 10 network will have to justify why it deserves whatever it charges. If Comcast knows that the eastern seaboard doesn't care about the Big 10 (I'm not even sure if Comcast is in the east), why would they pay the fees? I live in Tucson and DirecTV doesn't have the PAC 12 network yet because they haven't worked out the contract. People are complaining and a deal will be done eventually. If the eastern cable provider threatens to boycott the Big 10 unless the fees are reduced, who will complain?

  • Honestly, with the shift in population migrating south, In 20 years it won't matter about the TV audience in the PA Market...or Ohio for that matter....the southeast right now has been steadily growing the same amount the midwest/northeast has been declining...with the baby boomers starting to retire and continue for the next 20+ years, our old stomping grounds won't mean squat...

    The BIG Ten network is huge down here in the carolinas....I live in Wilmington, NC, a relatively small town, (100,000) and we have a huge Buckeye Alumni group here, as do many other BIG conferences...there are more BIG conference flags flying on houses in the Golf developments than the local schools....these aren't retirement communities, but new waterfront/golf course developments. My street alone has 8 BIG teams represented with only 30 homes on the street....None retired....just sayin'...the move south is upon us.

    I would think a move to the ACC would be good for Penn State. The money is an issue but with the lack of schollies over the next four years and the fact that "BOB" might leave for a better coaching job, Penn State might be able to survive the ACC a little better than they would in the BIG. I think it would help with recruiting also.

  • If I'm the commish of the ACC, I would first fire myself because I'm doing a crappy job. Then I'd bring in someone who would beg PSU to flip and ND to join to make 16. I would then create a league format similar to the Premier League, 8 teams in ACCA, and 8 teams in ACCB. ACCA are the top 8 teams that play each other that season. Bottom 2 get relegated, top 2 get promoted. The ACCA revenue sharing gets more money that year than B because no one will turn on the channel to watch Duke play Wake Forrest. I sell 2 games a week to a major network for the 3:30 and 8:00 slots, and a Friday night game on a sister network. Remaining games can go to ESPN or the ACC network. The remaining games come from 2 out of conference and 2 from the other league. My sell to teams like Duke: you should be lucky because we are the league looking like the odd man out if we lose FSU, VT, and Clemson. My sell to PSU/ND: we would control the entire east coast, number 1 tv market, and could make a ton of money and play a legit schedule every year, and avoid playing the conference bottom feeders. Also, November games in FL!!! We haven't even gotten to the basketball part yet...

    Nobody cares about wrestling or hockey when it comes to changing conference affiliation. Also, I would like to see someone point out that research money has ever been used as an excuse to switch conferences. Football is king and that's all that matters. So points 2 and 3 are out the window.

    As has been stated on here an ACC with Penn St would bring in more tv money. A Big 2 without Penn St would bring in less. Travel costs of all our teams would be less in the ACC. I don't know the numbers but I bet they're close. The problem is the dinosaurs on the BOT need to look to the future and the future is in ACC country, not the rust belt.
