BIG or ACC?

  • With the BIG Network, the money will still be here whether PSU is or not...It's not the addition of PSU that makes the BIG money...it's the TV deals....and since the conference owns the tv deal, it doesn't matter if you're in it or not...

I never bought season tickets through the school. Never have, never will. All I'm saying is people keep bringing up the money as a reason not to leave the Big2. What does this matter to the everyday Penn State fan? I watch Penn State football and men's basketball. Is anyone telling me that either of those sports will suffer from the lack of research money? While I hope that every Penn State team wins, I've never even watched another sport besides Women's Volleyball.

How many schools decide if they're going to change conference affiliation based on research money? I'm fairly certain the only reason a school switches conference's is if they think their football team will bring in more cash. If Penn St were to leave the Big 2, a lot of money would go with them to the ACC.

The only thing I'm bitter about is the way Penn St has been treated since entering the Big 2.

flex +1 lets leave the B10 for happier days, and take the money with us, I don't know any PSU fan that even likes the B10

I don't think the next tv deal is worth as much when you take Penn St out and add Kansas. I could be wrong though.

  • It's not a knock on PSU, just sayin, the tv deal is not going anywhere, so it wouldn't matter if Mich St, Wisconsin, PSU etc left...the deal is still in place, and whoever replaced the leaving team would get a big pay raise from their current deal.... I personally would love to see Kansas and KSU join...one is a football school, one is a BBall school....and they would both jump at the chance to get out of the Big 12 I believe. The BIG isn't going anywhere, and if one more raid happens, the Big12 and Big East will be gone....Big East is pretty much gone now....as evidence by the new BCS talks not including them automatically..

Right, I'm sure it will be worth the same when losing the 5th largest TV market in the country and 2nd largest in the B10.

I'm sure Iowa St. will bring the same.

BTN would lose distribution. Would not be worth as much. Very simple.

Of course the current tv deal isn't going anywhere, I'm talking about future tv deals. If Penn St leaves and ND goes full time ACC, the next ACC tv deal would rival any conference anywhere. This is money talking again.

As a fan I'll make it easy:

    Columbus/Madison: Yuck
    Miami/Charlotte: Yay

PA is the 6th most populous state in the country and about 100k behind Illinois. The BTN would be losing Philly, no 5 market and 6th most populous state in the country.....but theyll do just as good without it. He's nuts.

Yep, lose PA, bring in the Kansas market and the BIG gains? LOL

Notre Dame won't be joining for football for a long while, unless it is mandated in order to be considered for NC game.....so they will keep their NBC deal all to themselves...

Once again....the TV deals for the ACC are pretty weak....most of them are shown down here on Raycom sports....don't even have enough cameras to make totally accurate review calls....but think what you will....If the ACC is your dream, I hope you get there....It will do nothing for your recruiting, how many top midwest talents go to ACC? nada....they go to SEC, USC or ND or stay in the BIG...if the ACC was a great destination, they would rival the SEC for talent, but don't....

Once again, ACC doesn't give a flip about football....so you will see your team playing in front of 40,000 people in High School looking stadiums against a schedule of Wake, NC State, Virginia, Maryland, Duke, (the only perennial "Name" in the ACC is FSU..Clemson is a once every 23 year deal, Miami can't get 3000 fans to show to a game), bring you down to the depths that ACC football really is....meanwhile, your replacement will be playing Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State....and getting a much bigger check than they ever have....

they don't understand that we don't need the B10, ACC money will raise with PSU. Do they really think we care about the B10 network?

Especially since they don't show our games. Most of our football games are on ESPN & ABC.

Who's to say how many "viewers" we'll lose...all we'll lose is PSU.....if the Big Ten network is still subscribed to in the households who cares what conference you're in? Football fans will watch football games....I watch every conference, as do most other fans....

And to be accurate, you are the 3rd largest fanbase, not 2nd...Ohio State #1, Michigan #2...then PSU....

And you won't gain any fans from the south, I can promise you that....they will resent you, take the money you bring to their "little" conference and not give you many tickets to away games....small stadiums and about 1000 tickets given to you....so all those plans to come see all these southern schools, I wouldn't waste my time...I've been to NC State and UNC games and honestly, it was smaller than some High School games I've seen in Ohio or Texas....The ONLY school with any kind of football mentality down here is East Carolina, and that's sad...

Really hope y'all get your wish.....you value PSU much higher than these southerners do....the only thing they know about PA is that's where they lost a battle in the Civil War.....

  • You can bet that there are clauses in that contract that would change the terms plus or minus depending on who is in the conference. If you dont understand that you must be dumb or very young. If we left nobody in PA would watch that bs network. I watch it twice a year becasue I am forced to. I never go into work and hear someone say "hey did you watch that legends show last night?" Nobody talks about the crap they show on there. And that is how often I watched it before the sanctions. If we joined the ACC their tv contract would be renegotiated.Would we get the money we get now. Probably not but we and all the other ACC teams would get more. Just like you and the rest of the bs conference would get less. Now go run back to your own board and talk about how delusional we are. Cause we dont care.
