BIG or ACC?

  • It has been well documented how many times we have been screwed in the past by Big 10 officiating. The Nebraska game seemed to me like the cherry on top. It seemed from the time we entered the BIG, that we were never really held in high regard, and have always played second fiddle to the Big 10's darlings, Michigan and Ohio St. So, I would like to ask this question to Nittany Nation: If you had your way, would you rather stay in the Big 10, with it's obvious bias towards "certain teams", or make a move to the ACC(if they would take us), and help them become the first 16-team Super Conference in the country?

For me, I'd love to see us throw the Big10 the middle finger and jump ship. I think the SEC with a North(PSU, ND, Pitt, Cuse, BC, Maryland, Virginia, V.T.) and a South(N Carolina, NC ST., G-Tech, FL St., Miami, Clemson, Wake, Duke)would look very nice, and could possibly challenge the SEC for the top conference in the country.

I'm not sure how the research money, or the revenu from the Big10 Network would affect us, but I'd have to think that the ACC could provide something similar.

    Thoughts?

  • ACC without any hesitation what-so-ever. And I've been saying this even before events of the past year.

  • I despise the Big Ten. For me, it started when it cost us a national title in 94 and it hasn't stopped. That said, we're not moving. Too much money involved on both sides.

We have 500,000 alumni and come with the 4th largest TV market in the country in Philly. Add in the alumni in DC, Baltimore and NYC and we become very, very valuable to any conference. Unfortunately at this time we make the most in the Big Ten and it's probably not going to change for a while.

I would love to see a move to the ACC, but it's not going to happen any time soon. IF the ACC could somehow swing ND as a full time member along with us it would probably work.........but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • If you're REALLY SERIOUS about your feelings toward the big two little nine, express it in Beaver Stadium during a big game. The media will be THERE not out on the Old Main lawn or HUB lawn like some of these "protests". To make a point you need the media to see it and even if it means getting thrown in the slammer for a few hours, it'll make the point a lot more than holding "rallies".

  • Taking the money out of it I'd love a move to the ACC assuming ND was also in, but I also know this is a pipe dream and we're not leaving the B1G anytime soon.

This is what I was concerned about too - the money. I'm not very up-to-date on the money situation. Can you 17, or anyone else in the know, maybe shed a little light on it please?

Also, I do think ND will eventually become full-time. Would that generate more $$$? Also, wouldn't being a 16-team conference generate more money in itself?

  • I hate the big10. I'd move to the ACC as soon as possible if it was my decision.

  • ACC. Traditional rivals among the many reasons but of course money is king and unless the ACC could offer a similar amount of money we can just dream.

    warner3398

  • An ACC north division would look all lot like the all eastern division some coach once wanted. Just sayin...

As for the money, if we can negotiate that ND becomes a full-time member along with PSU, the money would follow. Also, think about cross-overs with Miami and Florida State.

Where was the B$0 when we needed them most? Piling on like everyone else. With friends like that who needs enemies?

In the end, the college game I once loved has become a crock of sh*t. Frankly, I don't give a damn.

  • I'd be 100% for it if we could get the same research and tv money.

I don't know if that's realistic, but I'd be interested if it were discussed.

  • To be honest, I'd rather go independent and schedule big name opponents for at least 8 of our games each year. Marquee matchups and a ridiculous grind year in and year out. I think it opens up avenues for tv deals, tv time, more exposure, and less bs obligations to any conference. Think it also sticks it to the NCAA because they couldn't interfere with us scheduling big name opponents.

Everyone talks about how we'd lose so much money if we left the BIG. I have yet to see any numbers. Can you or anyone else please share the details of how much money we'd lose by going to the ACC instead of general statements that everyone likes to toss around? Serious question and am interested in seeing them.

  • ACC. Hate the B1G at this point. Would be great to stick it to the B1G and see them lose the B1G Championship game.

  • ACC would be awesome, one can only dream.

  • ACC. The conference has some of our rivalries that we loved in earlier days.

Also, why twice on Sundays? Why not twice on Saturdays?

I did some quick work on google and found this article on payouts. This doesn't count research stuff obviously.

Big Ten’s per-member payout this year? Nearly $25 million | CollegeFootballTalk

(Prepare for the Florida State-to-Big Ten rumors in  three... two... one...) Already flush with cash, each member of the Big Ten will realize a significantly higher windfall than theyve ever received in the past. According to a report from the St.

Unless you get booted out, then there is no payout for leaving. If there was a vote to boot us, which I wouldn't be shocked if there was, maybe some were thinking of that. If a school gets booted, they leave without paying and take certain rights with them.

    The voice of reason.....

I live in ACC country and if you think the BIG is biased, you should see the ACC....

Do you think it was by accident that UNC didn't get harsher penalties? They did roughly the same thing as FSU, but UNC is the ACC's golden child down here....and in basketball, if you think you've seen officiating blunders in football watch games that either UNC or Duke are in and you'll see teams well taken care of....

I remember a game not too many years ago when Ga Tech was beating UNC with about 10 minutes to go in the game and then Ga Tech's top 3 players foulded out and UNC didn't have 7 fouls called on them in the 2nd half....

Be careful what you wish for....they would never want a "northern" team winning their conference.

I think I have changed my mind with you as a solid poster to be honest. I see you went over to your board of derelicts and started a BREAKING NEWS thread, a very sarcastic thread.

The point of this post was what?

A few on their board say.....

    1) PSU fans want to leave the conference
    2) The BIG is involved in a conspiracy and make the officials make bad calls against them
    3) If not for the officiating, they were dominating US too...and would have won that game as well...

Honestly, it's only about 5 or 6 of their posters that continue this stuff....they have some really good posters......like any board....

It's best not to read OSU boards anywhere, or tBB. You just get angry. Missing chromosomes I'm pretty sure.
