Anzalone checks out Penn State

  • buckperry said...

That list has to be 2 years old:

Marcus Freeman suffered a career ending injury with the Bears and is currently the LB coach at Toledo.

You didn't mention: Thad Gibson (not that big a miss but still...), Larry Grant (was starting with the Rams and 49ers).

And I know you mentioned Hawk but what you did you know that he has led the Packers in tackles all but 1 season? He's also in their top 5 for interceptions every year but 1 so far. The Pro Bowl- as long as there is Clay Matthews he won't be voted in.

Honestly I think the kid is looking at the coaching staff instead of the paint and logo on the field. Penn State's coordinators are good but Fickel and Vrabel (with his 3 super bowl rings- not bad for a Buckeye linebacker huh?) are super stars. I didn't say they were better I said they were stars and apparently that's what Anzalone likes.

Remind me how many all-conference performers Vrabel has coached at OSU? How exactly is he a super star coach? Don't be a fool. Vanderlinden and Johnson TOWER over the two clowns you mention as far as development. Don't kid yourself. Bringing up the three Super Bowl rings for Vrabel as ammo towards his superstar label is absolutely retarded. They prove he is a good coach exactly how? I'll wait ...

And the list is from cbssportsline. Sorry if I don't know all of the current OSU players and their histories off the top of my head shrug. The omissions don't change the premise. PSU LB's are clearly more successful currently in the NFL. It's not even arguable when you look at those lists.

Comparing the two collections of linebackers relative to success in the NFL is a joke. It's like comparing the Yankees to the Pirates, I hate to say. It's not a fair fight from OSU's standpoint.

christ youre a homer. poor shavi missed two guys that suck and have not made a mark, honestly can't expect anyone but a buckeye fan to know them.

fickel as a superstar LB coach is laughable. the guy has produced one good LB (Hawk) and a couple passable ones. I dont know about Vrabel as a coach, i'm sure he'll be good, he knows what it takes.

I also see you avoided talking about the how you stack up against PSU linebacker success in the NFL..

Vrabel does not matter to AA, but seriously how are those 2 guys superstars? Made me chuckle a bit. Vrabel has been a coach for a year and is not even the LB coach anymore.

They might be superstars in the Bucknut circle, but I would doubt they would be considered "superstars" outside of that circle.

I do believe I said you probably have the better coach. Not once did I bad mouth any of your coaches. I'm just saying some kids get stars in their eyes. That's it. I never said that makes him a good coach not did I ever insinuate that his rings make him a good coach. Please find the point in my post where I flamed the PSU coaching staff. I'll wait.

Is this post serious? Fickel and Vrabel are superstars? I never heard of Fickell before his amazing job as a head coach last year. Vrabel was a cog in Belechick's defensive schemes. Vandy has been cranking out all-American LB's for years. Anyone who follows CFB knows Vandy is a true superstar in his field. There is NO WAY IN HELL, AA would go to OSU for those two guys. Meyer, yes, Fickell and Vrabel, LOL.

You can't be saying Vandy is an OK lb coach. If you honestly think that you don't know college football.

Vrabel is the coach recruiting him. And he has to have some substance to have gotten this far with him. Again, to say either one of them are in the league of Johnson as far a coaching would be dumb. That's why I didn't say that.

You are mistaking superstars for better coaches. Those rings help Vrabel, he's a big name to kids that age. I really don't think the Buckeye misspoke there. Kids want the flash and Vrabel has some bling. Is what it is.

You insulted them by saying Fickel and Vrabel are better coaches than Johnson and Vandy. That would be like saying O'Brien is a better coach than Meyer. Take off the scarlet and gray glasses and look up the success of Johnson's and Vandys players.

Neither one is in Vanderlinden's league either - especially Vrabel ... LOL.

Calling Vandy "good" and then saying Fick/Vrabel are "superstars" in the same sentence implies that Vandy is about a 6/10 and the other two are 11's.

Never said that. I guess the better term to use would be rock star not super star. Apparently everyone is equating super star with coaching prowess when what I meant was popularity.

The 18 year old kids who play linebacker know he is the LB coach at PSU. They know he has produced several pro linebackers who have done very very well. Vrabel??? 14 years, one all-pro year (probably because he was 10th in line and nine rejected to go to the game). You are making him out to sound like Mean Joe Green. The guy had a long career, but don't be a fool son. He wasn't a focal part of those title teams. The punter played a bigger part and I'm a Patriot fan.

Vrabel and Fickell are rock stars? The more and more you type, you are looking like a fool.

  • Guys you are being very hypocritical and you need to realize that. We all know how great RV and LJ are but the truth is their names do not resonate outside of college football. They get kids when they have a chance to really get to know them, etc. but they are not flashy. If you are going to sit here and give no credence to the cache that Vrabel has accrued being a popular NFL player that has won Super Bowls then you can't say that BOB should be able to get recruits because he coached Tom Brady. Its the same thing. We have reaped the rewards of that and so will OSU.

Vrabel isn't even a superstar. He was a part of three title teams, but he wasn't close to a focal part of those teams. Brady is a superstar ... Vrabel isn't even a star.

I would argue Vrabel is more known for catching TDs from Tom Brady then for being a LB.
