Anzalone checks out Penn State

  • lol, I think Chris knows our feelings about Meyer by now. But if it's not about the coaches for Alex, I don't see the the appeal for OSU. Standford has superior academics and if he really wants to push himself Penn State's HC is there. I've never heard of any OSU football players doing HC, but for a normal degree all they really need to do is show up for class. Apparently that is asking too much sometimes. Well I hope you guys had a good trip and make it back up to State College again. Thanks for the info.

Having been in sales for the past ten years, the best salesmen always adapt to the customer. For a family in your situation the idea is always to get the customer to believe they've made the decision. Any kind of hard sell will not work in this case, he knows this. Again, anyone who has any kind of reasonably high level sales experience will tell you the same thing, it's an act. And the best make it seem 100% genuine. And again, look at what he said before he left Utah and how that played out. Look at the complete cluster- he perpetrated on Florida the last 12 months he was there (including flat-out lying to recruits from his last class). The well established reality of recruiting is that you cannot judge genuineness. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth. If you want to judge Urban Meyer when it comes to how genuine/truthful he his, just do the research. There are many people who covered him for more than enough time and they are relatively unanimous in their opinion of him when it comes to his truthfulness.

I'm not saying Penn State is clearly the best choice. I don't believe that. I believe you can get a good education and be happy playing football at most good D1 schools across this country. Ultimately, your college experience is what you make of it, most of the time at least. But Meyer is not a coach I would want my son playing for, simply because I could not trust a single thing out of his mouth. And I say that because I've read all the articles and all his quotes and it's firmly established the man will say just about anything, regardless of the truth. And even worse, at the end of the day I think he probably rationalizes all his lies and doesn't think any less of himself.

+ 1 for this. And for you apologists out there, have you already forgotten the recruits UM swept in an took from our 2012 class?

PSU's hc entails a lot more requirements outside of the classroom (i.e., research) than other school's hcs, and the coaches haven't made an effort to see if it can happen, etc. OSU and UF are the major players who have been able to confirm that he'll be able to do their hc and get an MBA during his time there. PSU's hc is obviously superior, but it's kinda a reach for Alex. UM, Fickell, and Vrabel seem to be pretty buddy-buddy with Alex, but the coaching staff isn't a primary factor in his decision. We'll see what happens tomorrow. From what I've seen thus far, OSU is hard to beat... But this isn't coming from a die-hard fan of any particular school. So I think my assessment is relatively objective.

Great insight; thanks Chris. What i'm reading out of this is that Alex's decision isn't based so much on the coaches or playing time, etc., but more on how he can integrate his participation in football and a quality education. As perfect said, you really can't blame him for liking the opportunity that ohio state provides him. Personally, I find it refreshing that there are student-athletes out there that actually care about the "student" portion of it. If it can't work out as well for him at PSU, then that's just how it is. It would be awesome for Alex to find something at PSU that works this well for him, but if not, this is the rare occasion that I will appreciate (or maybe i should say accept) a kid's decision to go to ohio state.

UMMM ... our head coach is Bill O'Brien. He didn't cover up anything.

I suggest you contact Webster's for a definition on the word cover-up. That would involve keeping information of this nature to your self. It's common knowledge Paterno reported stuff to the administration. So much for a cover-up. Let me know if you need a map to lead you in the right direction of seeing the obvious.

I'm not gonna lie, those are darn good reasons for Anzalone to consider OSU. If he is taking the approach as reasonably and well thought out as your post, then there's no way I can root against him.
I'm also not gonna sit here and spew out "Urban Meyer slept with a coed at UF!" I will say that it is more than just an Internet rumor stared by disgruntled UF fans, as there are some professors and employees of UF who would swear by it because there were whispers before any of his "health issues" arose.
My father always told me "believe half of what you hear and all of what you see." Do your research, look at the way he left the UF program and guys like Sharrif Floyd from PA and others who he told what they wanted to hear in order to get him to UF. Read what former players like Janoris Jenkins said about his "discipline" for his pot smoking, and Chris Rainey, as well as the safety who had his scholly pulled and lost his spot because he suffered a knee injury. As gem said, he can seem to be the most genuine guy on the planet, but his history suggests otherwise.
However I'm trying not to come off as a bitter PSU fan. The honors college BA/MBA setup is a great opportunity for a kid like Alex and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and a great family surrounding him. I hope he makes the decision for the right reasons, what's best for his future, and honestly do wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up. You guys really are a great bunch of people.

Because this is a PSU board you numbnut, not an OSU board - duh? If you banned everyone who said nasty stuff about Paterno, you wouldn't have any boards. I'm sure you would have been banned as well.

There is a difference between negative and flat out inflamed lies. The Urban Liar stuff might be negative but it is true. He is scum. There is nothing true about the garbage you spewed. Maybe you should get your facts straight. I doubt you have the brain capacity for that however.

Ugh, another idiot Buckeye fan. Please reflect the quality of your true fanbase, who are some of the best fans I have ever met. You are an embarrassment to them. Urban Meyer is not perfect, I'm sorry to say. He is a fantastic coach though. But you should notice, especially lately, he left a lot of problems in Gainesville. That is not speculation, that is fact. Maybe you will grow up one day and better represent Buckeye Nation.

  • The funny thing is that the majority of you talk shit about UFM but on the flip side if he decided to coach at your school all of you would think he walks on water. It's one kid in a long battle. It's only April. Maby months to go. In the words of Bo Ryan "deal with it"
