You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

All I have to say is Anzalone should check the track records of the two schools (PSU vs. OSU) on producing NFL LB's. It should be a no contest and he shouldn't get caught up in Urban Meyer's car salesman talk.

OSU offers no advantages unless you believe the Meyer hype. Penn State is a better school, it's a lot closer to home, and his bother goes there. Either of them can send him to the NFL.

Also, alot less of a depth chart at PSU. He would play very quick.

I believe our coaches are far superior as well. I know they have not coached a game yet, but I think Meyer will be looking for Strong and Mullen for advice and finds out he has only fickell..haha!

And how many OSU LBs are currently in the NFL right now? How many are starters?
Better yet, how many of them were in the pro bowl this past year or were voted as All-pros at their position?
Wake and Hali were both pro-bowlers for the AFC as 3-4 OLBs, and Navorro Bowman was voted as an All-Pro in just his 2nd year in the league.

This. Hawk and Laurinaitis are the only OSU backers I can think of who start (sure there are more - I just don't keep track). Neither are considered very good, while PSU has some of the best LB's in the league out there.

OSU hasn't produced a quality starter other than JL and Hawk (who is totally average) in a long time.

We just had an all-Pro (Bowman), another pro-bowler (Wake), and quality players like Lee (who is a borderline pro-bowler), Poz, and Connor.

And we have the LB coach who developed those guys.

Go away. Don't you have some of Meyer's religious testimonies to read ?

new-era said... Psu doesnt have enough to beat the conferences better teams and wiscy is one of them.

  • i think that statement should have been- if you want to be a successful LB in the league, OSU cant compare. Bowman, Lee, Hali, Wake, and Posluszny are better than anything OSU has produced lately.

    better?

    Track record?
If you want track record, look at the track record of the success of PSU LBs vs OSU LBs in the NFL.
OSU LBs are perennially awful in the NFL. Bobby Carpenter was the worst pick of the 21st century for the Cowboys. His teammates called him "Barbie" and laughed at him he was so bad. Laurinaitis is a starter..... on the absolute worst run defensive team in the league in St. Louis.
Hawk has been pretty good. That's one. I'll even give you Laurinaitis to make two.
Any other OSU LBs worth anything in the league?
    Brian Rolle?

Meanwhile you have guys like Wake, Hali, Bowman, and Lee all either in the pro-bowl, getting voted as alternates, or receiving All-pro type honors. And then guys like Dan Connor who just signed a multi-year deal to start at ILB in Dallas, Paul Posluszny who has had just as much success if not more in his career than Laurinaitis (despite multiple injuries), and a guy like Josh Hull who found his way into being drafted and making a roster despite being a walk-on at PSU who was considered one of the weak links of the defense during his time at Penn State.
You talk about "looking at the track record," then OSU LBs fail miserably in comparison to those at Penn State.

Current NFL LB's in alphabetical order:
OSU - Bobby Carpenter (marginal NFL player), Marcus Freeman (who?), AJ Hawk (decent career so far, 1 pro bowl), Ross Homan (who?), JL (pretty good for a few years), Brian Rolle (Decent rookie season), Austin Spitler (15 career tackles)

PSU - NaVorro Bowman (first team all-pro) - we are already about even with OSU after one player, Dan Connor (mediocre couple years), Josh Hull (done nothing), Tamba Hali (3-4 outside backer; 2 time pro bowl, 2nd team all pro, sack champ), Sean Lee (great second year), Poz (nice little career so far), Tim Shaw (done nothing), Cameron Wake (3-4 OLB; pro bowler; all pro; near sack leader to Hali)

So, again, what track record should he look at?
